GEJ gives millions of Naira & national awards to 2012 Paralympiads

President Goodluck Jonathan tonight hosted the victorious Nigerian Reps to the 2012 London Paralympic Games at the presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja. During the event, the president announced a cash prize award of N5 million, N3million and N2 million to each of Nigeria's Paralympic Gold, Silver and Bronze winners respectively.

Other Olympians who didn't win any medals will receive a cash award of N500, 0000. Their officials will receive a cash award of N2.5 million each. In addition, each of the six paralympic Gold winners will be conferred with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) on Monday September 17th.

Also, each of our Falconets shall receive a cash award of N1million as a token of appreciation from the federal government. Their coaches will get N1.2 million each.

Good one. Now all those who insulted the Nigerian govt on that Johnny Walker post should come back to apologize, and I guess I've been vindicated cos you (Linda) refused to post my comment because I said the truth about that exploitative Johnny Walker congratulatory message - guess they chose to crawl the talk on that.

The money is small sha! Kai. Stingomania GEJ. Or is it because they are the Paralympic athletes?

Anonymous wey dey seek suggestions on how to get him own national award.
Try this method. Find way to gain access to the treasury, come begin steal money, no steal small o. Steal like billions of dollars and reinvest some back in a sector of the economy to still benefit yourself, donate some to the ruling party and all connected institutions.
After this, na you go chose the award wey you want with your own hand or mouth.
I dey sure say others go give you better ideas.

Falconets!!! N1M each for 4th place???? That's ridiculous! 300-500k each would have been fair enough! GOSH!
What a president we've got, so full of adrenalin and easily gets carried away in the moment!
Does he even have any sensible advisers?

First time am happy with the president. U just impressed me GEJ. We need to encourage them. Afterall d guys with complete body no carry aluminium come back. So nice one

President said...

He has just given them problem. Relatives and friends will just swamp them and relieve them of the money. Giving them employment or buy annuities for them with the money is better. But I like the National honours. Will they still get the cash award that comes with the honour?

'In addition, each of the six paralympic Gold winners will be conferred with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON)'...this is more like it...true heroes who fought for their motherland...GOD BLESS THE OLYMPIANS,GOD BLESS NIGERIA,GOD BLESS LINDA,GOD BLESS ME.

Anonymous said...

These stupid cash prizes is NOT what the Disability community in Nigeria need! GEJ Sign the goddamn disability bill into law and stop all these rubbish grandstanding and playing to the gallery!

GbollyLO said...

Now this is fabulous. I love this so much! That's extremely encouraging

@ anon 9.17,,u obviously don't comprehend wat anon 1.19 said n u r concludn rubbish,,,busy body

It's so sad that the honor for these paralympiads comes so late. If GEJ originally planned to honor their achievements, it would have been announced before they left London. Instead, after they arrive back in Nigeria without any fanfare, the president is trying to allay the public backlash.

What a shame...

Kudos to the athletes sha. Spend your money wisely oo!! Remember to save some for the future (fame comes and goes).

Conferment of national honours is a good and comendable gesture however, I take exception to all these cash gifts the government is in the habit of doling out! Where is the money coming from? What part of the budget? We keep talking about curbing government spending but we then we clap our hands and pat presido on the back when he flagrantly and without recourse to procedure, spends public funds as if it's coming out of his back pocket!

Truth is that I dont even have a problem with cash gifts just so far as those things had been previously provided for in the budget cos guess what? If they were not previously provided for then that money is coming out of a project somewhere and later on we will start to shout about the high rate of failed projects!

God help us!

This one na wash wash. The govt should make the annoucement when they actually giving them the money....actions speak louder. I find it difficult to believe that the govt will keep to their promise. This is not the first time they are sayiing such things. I hope they get the money, because they deserve it.

@Alicia what u talking about 5 million naira is £20,000 and probs $30,000...try working selflessly for that after tax for months in the diaspora..for some a year sef dem never earn this amount!!..
