Funmi Iyanda Journeys Nigeria

After eight years of producing and hosting the acclaimed studio talk show, New Dawn, Funmi Iyanda is returning to the screen at the helm of a different kind of show. The new project is called Talk With Funmi (TWF).

Talk With Funmi is an exciting new programme that captures people around Nigeria. It is a thought provoking, illuminating and entertaining journey into the life of Nigerians from all over the country.

Funmi Iyanda journeys from state to state talking with Nigerians from all spheres of life. The show talks to people everywhere – capturing discussions that range from the hard hitting stories of the day to day challenges of Nigeria with some light-hearted banter and fun along the way. With the first season of recording already completed in some states, don't be surprised if TWF soon shows up at your doorstep.

Beautifully produced and shot on high definition video, Talk With Funmi is a technical masterpiece. The excellent cinematography and deep, rich colours of the production provide tactile pleasure. TWF is an artistic blend of documentary, reality television and talk show and thus resists categorization. The result is groundbreaking and innovative television from a production team led by award-winning director Chris Dada.

With 36 states, over 200 ethnic groups and 140 million people, Nigeria is alive and teeming with vibrant stories. Nigerians are a people who love to talk, and Nigerians still have great stories to tell – stories of joy, laughter, hard work and success. Stories of suffering and harrowing pain; stories of hope and resilience in spite of all odds. As Nigeria moves towards 50, this is the perfect opportunity to capture transformative Nigerian conversations—conversations that will ignite meaningful change.

It is the power of these conversations that will unlock the potential of our nation and reaffirm the bonds that hold us together as a country. These are the stories that award winning broadcaster and journalist Funmi Iyanda has set out to capture in an ambitious and innovative television show.

The TWF journey promises to be one that is fresh, eye opening and fun and will be broadcast to TV audiences across Africa.

Talk With Funmi is an Ignite Media production.

Murder, brutal rape and repression in Guinea

*Warning - horrific pictures.
Please don't continue if you can't stand gruesome pictures.

I know I'm probably going to spoil your day with this post...it's horrific...and I'm sorry...but this is something we all need to see... as Africans...as a people...you won't believe the kind of terrible, despicable things we do to each other...*

Read the story below...

On Monday September 28th 2009, Guinean troops opened fire on opposition protesters at a stadium in the capital Conakry, killing 157 and wounding over 1, 253 people in the crackdown.

About 50,000 people were protesting over rumours that their erratic military ruler, Capt Moussa Dadis Camara who took over in Dec 08 after the death of long-time ruler Lansana Conte, intends to run for president in an election scheduled for next January.

During the protest soldiers moved in to quell the rally using tear gas and baton charges and firing live ammunition into the crowds killing many people.

Women caught in the massacre were raped and brutally murdered by soldiers.

"I'm 57 and they stripped me naked!" said one woman, her face still swollen a week later, as she showed off her bruised arms and buttocks.

"I saw soldiers putting their rifles into womens' private parts while they were hitting me," she added.

Thierno Maadjou Sow, head of the Guinean Human Rights Organisation, said it was setting up an association for women who had been raped so they could take legal action.

"A soldier had a knife, he ripped all my clothes," added the woman, who is an opposition activist. "I told them, 'I'm your mother.' They jabbed me in the buttocks with a knife, they beat me terribly."

Beside her, a woman of 47 showed reporters the bruises and wounds scarring her back.

"A soldier hit me and stripped me, he hit me on the head with his gun. They knocked me to the ground," the mother of two said. "Someone came and put their hand.... they raped me. I got out of there naked."

Sow said the rapes were perpetrated in full view of all and constituted "a crime against humanity."

And now to the pictures...
Please remember you were warned...

Lil Wayne expecting baby no 4

Third baby mama, actress Lauren London

With Nivea Hamilton and fourth baby mama

Lil Wayne has confirmed that he and singer Nivea are expecting a baby boy! The baby will be Weezy's third son to be born in just over a year. Just last month, actress Lauren London, gave birth to Lil Wayne's second son. He already has another son with a college student and a daughter with his ex-wife Toya.

Seriously, I don't understand how some women can even tolerate this.

Edo female deportees from Libya return with unwanted pregnancies.

Out of the over 1, 000 Edo State indigenes who were recently deported from Libya last month, no fewer than 50 of them are pregnant. Investigations have revealed that the deportees were languishing in various prisons in Libya before the federal government in collaboration with some other agencies, fought frantically to ensure their release and subsequent deportation of the Edo indigenes.

It was learnt that these girls were either impregnated by Libyan security operatives or prison officials. These unfortunate Nigerians had left the shores of the country to Libya to secure passage to European countries like Spain and Italy.
Sad!

Is this 'Black Face'?

~Painting white people black for the entertainment of other white people is offensive in ways that stand entirely apart from cultural context.~

French Vogue did a shoot with Dutch model Lara Stone and black people are angry about it. Lara was painted black.

The general consensus is that the 'fashion world' does not have respect for 'black models'. They are wondering why a black model was not hired for the shoot instead of painting a white girl black.

Is this disrespectful to the black world or is it just artistic?

Daily Independent Newspaper shuts down

The staff of Daily Independent are complaining that they have not been paid their salaries for the past four months. They also alleged that N11 million belonging to the staff cooperative society has not been paid to the cooperative by the company.

One of the most notable among the grievances of the workers is that for the past eight years, none of the old staff has been promoted, while some of the newly employed ones have been promoted. They are angry that 22 workers considered some of the best hands were sacked last week.

The 22 senior staff members were alleged to have been sacked because they refused to be the mouthpiece of the newspaper owner, Chief Ibori. Some workers alleged that they were forced to launder Ibori’s image by writing editorials, letters to the editor and articles attacking those opposing the embattled ex-governor.

Their refusal was said to have cost them their jobs.

The new hand gesture

Ladies and gentlemen, check out the new hand gesture. It's no longer 'Yeah' or 'Peace out'. It's something like what Tuface, D'banj, Wande Coal, Ikechukwu, Sound Sultan, Dr. SID and Wyclef is showing us.

Is that a symbol of Oneness?
Something tells me Wyclef is the brain behind it...
You feeling it?

Tuface and I are still together - Pero Adeniyi

The gist in town was that Tuface had parted ways with two of his baby mamas, Sumbo Ajaba and Pero Adeniyi. Sumbo confirmed the split many weeks back, but Pero is insisting she's the still with the father of two of her kids. She spoke with Afolabi Adekoya of City People Magazine in far away Canada where 2face had gone to perform some weeks back.

"People told me about the report but I didn't get to see the paper. Well as for Sunmbo, she spoke for herself and that has nothing to do with me. I am not separated from 2face. We are still very much together. If we are not together, I wouldn't be here in Canada to be with him. I just decided to keep a low profile for a while and I think because people have not been seeing me around in Nigeria, they assume we have parted ways. I was going through a lot of stress in Nigeria so I thought the best thing to do is to go back to the US where I can live a quiet life. I'm here with my kids and I will remain with 2face because I love him. I will stay with him through thick and thin"
