VP Osinbajo did not Lock down Calabar - Media aide

...press statement from the VP's office in response to this. Read below
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was in Calabar and Lagos today -Thursday June 25 paying tribute to two eminent Nigerians whose lives reflect the very virtues of integrity, trustworthiness and social justice, which can lift our dear nation. The one is Late Justice P.O.E Bassey and Dr. Christopher Kolade.
He arrived Calabar at about 10:30am attending the Justice P.O.E Bassey Memorial Lecture, at the University of Calabar, and left the town about 3:30pm, heading for Lagos where he spoke at the Convention for Integrity 3rd Annual Lecture.
Prof Osinbajo was well received in Calabar witnessed by the warmth shown him and his delegation by the people and government of Cross River State.

Claims that the town was in a lock down because of his visit is just another mischievous and baseless report from some of the same social media quarters that misled the nation in the past about his purported exclusion from security meetings. The Vice President did not even spend ten hours in Calabar and could not have locked down the town, as his convoy moved freely among the people in regular traffic as he normally does.

I personally observed several people go about their normal activities and businesses without any hinderance.

He has since returned to Abuja after his trip to both cities.

Signed

Laolu Akande

Lies from the pit hell! Highway was blocked even tho it wasn't in the route he will follow, the entire hospital road was blocked, inside school was barricaded too by eye-service police men, etagbor was a serious traffic mess. He shouldn't come to calabar again please. We experienced traffic for the first time in our quiet lives here. Something that he would have been carried from the airport quietly without siren and we wouldn't have even noticed the VP is in calabar but no they had to use siren, block roads, harrass drivers and drive roughly to tell us that he has arrived. Useless bunch of people. See how we were trekking from dept to main gate cos the buses weren't available cos of barricades. I can't even rant enough. Nobody uses sirens here and the governor will even pass u and u won't knw but these abuja touts had to come and disrupt the peace of my calabar.

There is a popular saying that in every rumour there is element of truth. Why should a visit of a citizen bring havoc to people

I commented on that post yesterday, the road wasn't blocked because of the Vice president or government officials.
The deserted road was because of heavy rain.
It rained heavily from morning till afternoon (1:30pm). Only those in Calabar will understand how Calabar rain disrupts movement.
I passed through the so called inter connecting blocked road(high way) from Lemna road in the morning.
My sibling went through that way to and back from school in the central area(watt market axis).

You guys should keep lying! Nigerians are now well aware of ur antics! Stupid liars!

The business man Asuquo's complaint might have stemmed from the rain and the guy that sent Linda the story decided to blow things out of proportion to suit his secret desire.
People only go to the market under rain when people are in dire need of something; if there is no urgent need, people would stay indoors.

If there was a road block, it wasn't in the central area; it was in Unical area where the memorial lecture took place.
Many people didn't even know that the VP came to town.

If calabar was locked down, then the state government should be held responsible, cos they ordered the lockdown, and how will the VP know all dese happened when he was attending a function. Do not forget that last year during the campaigns when the Ex president and his wife came, calabar was locked down, so why are you people now lamenting like it's the 1st time u ve witnessed it. We Nigerians are always biased.

hmmm APC an lies... I leave close to unical an every road arud unical wz locked down

Unknown said...

PURE LIES!!! I was a victim. Yesterday was he'll for us, we had to trek long distances just cos of Osinbajo.. else u'll be in a hold-up for several hours. Businesses around Ettagbor and edim.otop area were completely locked down cos customers couldn't find their way to d shops. Dis man shouldn't come to Cally again abeg! Nonsense

Anonymous said...

A friend of mine was just lamenting of how pedestrians were stopped on the streets of Abuja so as the president can pass. so i don't doubt if this happened. the truth is that shutting down all the streets, roads and shops when a president or vice president is visiting a state can never solve the security problem in Nigeria. it is high time Nigerians stepped up their games and think properly. when they get better thinking assassins, they are going to start thinking better than shutting down peoples business as a means of providing security. As for the people who still think that they are the "gods of Nigeria", We are watching them and God is watching us.

I never expected them to admit to it. So whatever, duuhhh.

The whole town "Calabar Municipal" was in chaos ystdy. Traffic was hell, I don't see why a President or VP cannot drive along the road with other road users or tax payers with causing traffic. This I would blame on our senseless Police Officers. I was in traffic for more than one hour for a 7mins journey. Major routes in the city was on lock down.
