Photos: VP Osinbajo's visit shuts down Calabar for 10 hours- Report

Report sent in by Kanjal Godshield from Calabar. Read below...
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo visit to Calabar the Cross River State capital, yesterday brought to a halt human and vehicular movements for several hours as security operatives shut down the major routes in the capital city. Besides, this development also grounded business activities following the blockade of roads to markets and other business centers. Also, journalists who left their homes to cover the event as early as 8:00am, could not get to the venue even at 11: am as roads were blocked.
Osinbajo at the event
This was as some press men who arrived the venue late were denied access to the hall to cover the event by security men at the entrance. Some business operators, who spoke with our reporter lamented that it was a wasted day as they lost several thousands of naira from roads blockade.

They said it was a strange development as they have never witness such scenario were a vice president's visit will terminate activities of the residents. One of them, Asuquo Akanimoh, who owns a shop at the watt market said, "i left my house at eight miles to my shop only to spent six hours on the road, even when i got to my shop the entire place was dull because customers could not have access to the roads due to the markets, as i speak with you i have not sold even a pant which is very bad.

I pay taxes and rent and everyday i my business counts, please this situation can be handled in a different way," he said Also, Itoro Etim, a commercial taxi chauffeur said the day was wasted because he could not ply the road even when he had already hired a taxi for the day.
The VP who was a keynote speaker and special guest of honor at the occasion of the 10th Memorial Anniversary of the first High Court judge of the then South Eastern State, Justice Peter Odo Effiong Bassey, held at the University of Calabar.

Ordinary vice president's visit shutting down a state for 10hours. I remember how this same hypocritical APC members criticised GEJ for using too much convoy, but they are now doing something worse. Party of hypocrites and criminals. Osibanjo can't try that in Rivers State.

Anonymous said...

Something keeps telling me linda has so much hatred for Yorubas. When ordinary president's wife was busy shutting down an entire state you never said anything but now you are embracing criticism over your Vice President which will assume the post of president in the absence of president because he is a Yoruba man?

Unknown said...

Stupid change. This people re worst than Pdp. I pity nigeria

Anonymous said...

This story is wrong linda. The vp was in calabar today being the 25th of june hence d shutdown was today not yesterday.

Anonymous said...

People the shut down is true but it happened today the 25th of june and not yesterday. It was terrible. Affected workers, business pple, schools etc. Something should be done about such visits instead of putting every citizen of d town to a standstill.

Anonymous said...

Vice president ordinary?pple are super daft, wat were dey expecting?dt d entire roads be opened so his car will be dragging with theirs, der shuld chop some sense abeg.

Anonymous said...

Shutting down public streets is unacceptable and unwarranted. Citizens need to conduct business as usual in order to take care of family & dependants, pay taxes and students need to be able to continue their studies/clssses without these types of interruptions. VP or not, you serve the people; they put you there. So, the earlier you and your entourage begin showing respect for the needs of the people, the better.

Unknown said...

Now listen up bonario or what is dat ur stupid name from airport road,IBB way, eta agbo, Marian road, Mary slessor avenue n stadium road Were all blocked from 7a.m n dis a roads that connect d city there by not allowing pple move about simply Because a VP came to attend a memorial whatever... hmmmmmmmmmn I weep for Ur senseless brain... agbaya

Anonymous said...

Thank you! Good memory!!

Anonymous said...

na wa for this kind of change o

I am not surprised pathetic linda would not post my objective comment that gave a first hand observation. Shame on you linda. There is absolute no different from u and the cabal destroying our economy. I work on the murtala muhammed way in Calabar, I witnessed the convoy of the VP frm the airport to the venue, yes it was long, true the road was blocked for the onward journey and opened immediately the convoy passed. 3hrs ltr the convoy returned through same route to the airport which is about 10mins from my office. The 10hrs shutdown is totally false, malicious and unprofessional from a free Lance reporter. Linda your blog is being viewed by millions so become professional with ur gossips. Don't make your preference obvious.

Unknown said...

Like seriously? I neva had d intention to comment of stuffs like diz but after reading different comment I now understand dat not everybody that went through d four walls of the classroom is really educated.

You guyz kept abusing d man without any prove I was expecting to see pictures of roads block, security operatives here n there attach to d report to confirm d story was truth... NB: think twice b4 u write/post a comment.

Mr lapazi......
