Beauty and the Beast on Moments with Mo

Mo with Bella Naija & Teeloni

Technology is amazing! Where would you be without our cell phones, Facebook, microwaves, and Blackberrys? Can you imagine a world without TV? Despite the ease, comfort and time-management that technology has introduced into everyday living, it sadly, also has its pitfalls. With the turn of a new century, and the new wave of inventions, there is a growing dependency and technology addiction that is taking over people’s lives!
Mo explores in Beauty & The Beast, the good, the bad and the ugly sides of technology in today’s world.  Mo follows the story of a self confessed face book addict, and someone who says the internet literally changed her life, and her financial status.

Can we find balance in today’s modern world of technology? Make it date with Mo, tune in and find out!

17-year-old girl gives birth to baby boy in Kirikiri prison

Comfort and her baby

If Baby Monday is not Kirikiri Minimum Prison‘s youngest inmate, he will certainly be one of the youngest. His mother is being detained in the prison and was delivered of him only 13 days ago.

17 year old comfort was allegedly impregnated and locked up by the same man, her boss.

How the Nigerian police can put a pregnant, underage girl in prison for an offense that was not properly investigated is beyond me. You all need to read this heartbreaking story of injustice and man's inhumanity to another

Hopefully someone out there can help this young mother and child.

Quote of the day

"Nature has got it all wrong: When you are younger, it should be harder to get pregnant, and as you get older it should be easier. When you are so ready, you can't do it to save your life. And when you are 21, you are so not ready, but you are ripe as could be. The eggs should become more developed the older you get, not die slowly from the day you're born. That's one thing God got wrong."
Halle Berry tells Vogue magazine...

God got something wrong? Never heard that before.

Single Kanye West wants an amazing woman...

Kanye went on Hot 97 with Angie Martinez recently and when he was asked about his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose, this is what he said

“Yeah man, it was an amazing time and it came to an end. One of the greatest things that she showed me was just to be a nicer person because she was so disconnected from the concept of celebrity when I first met her. My goal in life is to really have an amazing woman and have a family, but I think I had to go through these different things to grow…That was a one-off.”
Ouch Kanye, ouch!!!

Amber must have heard it 'cos she tweeted this later that day...

Eh oh well...:)

The anti-lesbian drug

Researchers have found that by administering a steroid called dexamethason to pregnant women whose unborn daughters have a condition called CAH (congenital adrenal hyperplasia), the chance of those daughters becoming lesbians is vastly reduced or eliminated.

The hyperbole surrounding this news is that now any pregnant woman can take a drug to prevent her daughter from becoming a lesbian.  Sort of "gay proofing" the baby.

Jay Jay Okocha movie in the works...

There's a movie in the works to honour one of Nigeria's greatest soccer stars, former captain of the Super Eagles, Austin Jay Jay Okocha. The movie is titled Feet of Destiny and Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has been penciled down to play Jay Jay.

The movie which centres on the life of Okocha and his exploits in the field of play will also feature Hollywood Jimmy Jean Luis, Hakeem Kae Kazim, Kira Obyron and many others.

Fantastic stuff!
But Emeka Ike as Jay Jay? hmmm....I'd rather have someone else play him. I think they need someone younger to portray a footballer. A 40-something year old will look crazy running around on a football field. Just saying.

Who would you rather have play Okocha?

'Why I can't reconcile with 9ice' Ruggedman

"I heard 9ice is in the studio recording a song to diss me but I don't want to believe it. As far as I am concerned, I will fold my hands until he does but if he dares it, then I will be forced to go into the studio and record a song taking him down memory lane and then people will hear what they never expected. For now I have no issues with him but I can't reconcile with him when he does the wrong thing. I can only reconcile if he comes and apologizes." Ruggedman tells City People Magazine.

Government Rewards Falconets With Scholarships

Nigeria's female National Team, the Falconets were runners-up at the 2010 FIFA U-20 women's World Cup championship that took place in Germany last month.

They should be rewarded for that right? Well Lagos businessman Jimoh Ibrahim gave them N20 million as appreciation for their effort. And you would think the Federal Government would top that huh?
Instead of appreciating in cash, FG awarded scholarships to the players.

Their excuse for this decision is that the players are young, amateur and should keep their focus on the future.

You all know how much the Super Eagles players got for their awful performance in SA?

Fair or not fair?

Nollywood stars at the premier of 'Bursting Out' and 'Holding Hope' in Lagos

Genevieve

Stephanie Okereke

Ebube Nwagbo

Uche Jumbo

I was at this fantastic, star-studded premier but I was only able to watch one movie - Bursting Out, starring Genevieve Nnaji and Majid Michel. Bursting Out is the first Nollywood movie I've watched in...years. I gave up on our local movies many years ago but I really enjoyed this one. I was really impressed. Now I'm thinking about getting back to watching our local movies. This movie kinda restored my faith in Nollywood.

Genevieve was fantastic in this movie and I saw that Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel in action for the first time and he blew me away with his acting. The story line was great, with unexpected pleasant surprises.

All in all, a great movie. A must watch!

Pix thanks to Niyi Tabiti...

Topic of the day: Should a child be allowed to have "fashion choices"?

Shiloh in boys swim trunks

Angelina Jolie says her daughter Shiloh chooses her own boyish clothes and even cried over having long hair. Shiloh, 4, likes to dress like a boy.

Angelina Jolie on Shiloh and her "fashion choices"
“It’s not my choice. I have a very strong-willed four-year-old girl, who tells me what she wants to wear and I let her be who she is. I think people think kids should be a certain way, but I feel they should wear what they feel like wearing and they should express themselves. Shiloh cried one night and said, ‘Please cut my hair off. I don’t want to have long hair.’ I’m not going to leave it long because somebody thinks I should.”
Hmmmm, I see. So if a child wants to start wearing make-up, contact lenses and high heels at 4, you let them?

Shiloh and her older sister Zahara

I'm not a mother yet, but when I become one, I don't think I would indulge my four year old daughter's 'boyish' fashion choices. She's four, how do you know the type of haircut and clothes you want? That's my duty as a mum until the child grows to a certain age...say 18 10? Or maybe the best way to raise children is to let them express themselves and parents learning to adapt to what their children want?

What do you think? Please remember, the imperative word here is CHILD!

Topic of the day: Is it OK to use God's name for comedy?

Some people want Naija comedians to stop using God's name to entertain their crowd. They think they are being disrespectful and making a mess of His name in the name of comedy by telling 'God, Jesus' jokes.

For example, a Naija comedian made a joke recently. He said - after Peter cut off someone's ear, Jesus Christ fixed it back then Peter said - baba J, abeg make we take am dey do businees naa. Then baba J say make peter dey cut ears, them go dey collect N50.00 to fix each ear back, then baba J come tell God make He send power...blah, blah, blah...something to that effect.

What do you think? Should comedians stop using God's name in their jokes or it's no biggie?
Pls share your thoughts

"Police saved me from American girls pestering me for sex" - Peter Okoye

For the duo of Peter and Paul Okoye popularly known as P-Square, it would have been the greatest sex scandal of their lives if the overzealous American girls had succeeded in their plans.

A reliable source revealed during the week that the musical tour of the United States embarked upon by P-Square, and which ended in New York City on July 24, 2010, had turned out to be a success but it would have closed on a sour note had the wild American girls who wanted sex badly had got hold of Peter and succeeded in raping him. In America, rape is a criminal offense.
