At every point in time a king is to set to attain a throne in most part on the Yoruba kingdom, he must produce one of his female child that will become a regent, when he dies for a period of time, before another king succeeds the late king. In the case where he does not have a female child which is very rare, he could choose any of his royal sibling's daughters. And for those commenting about what she will speak with the people of Akure, I can assure you that she will be able to speak the local language. These people are prepared for it and they learn their culture and tradition despite their foreign education.

Happy for you sweet

Anonymous said...

To be honest, the Yorubas are the most gender- friendly people in Nigeria. There is little to no discrimination between male and female offspring. I wish other ethnic groups will follow suit.

Linda, this's the best place once my fingers are idle and I can't stop laughing at the most unbelievable and hilarious comments emanating from guys with their unbelievable responses to the culture, value and the tradition of their father or motherland, which has exposed the lack of cultural education in schools. I just pitied our future generations, if some people could be hearing of Regent for the first time..Ofcuz, the source of foods like yams, and potatoes would be from trees if not bakery soon...lol

Not to worry LIB readers won't attend your funeral, we would leave it for deludes and fools like you to attend. Mtchweeee

For fellow Ibos who don't understand the cultural practice here just watch and learn. These traditional institutions have been preserved and were not corrupted by European influence. While theirs is a monarchy, ours was a sort of parliament, kingship in Igbo land as portrayed by nollywood is flawed. Europeans only introduced warrant chiefs because of the indirect rule system.
