BBOG co-founder, Bukky Shonibare describes Aisha Buhari's book launch on Chibok girls anniversary as 'insensitive & painful'

Bukky Shonibare, one of the founders of the Bring Back Our Girls advocacy group has expressed her disappointment with wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari over the launch of her beauty book on the second anniversary of the abduction of Chibok schoolgirls. Mrs Aisha Buhari yesterday launched a new book 'The Essentials of Beauty Therapy: A complete Guide for Beauty Specialists" at an event held in Abuja. The first lady dedicated proceeds from the sale of the books to be used to empower the mothers of the Chibok girls. See more tweets from Ms Shonibare after the cut...

Ehnnn? So life shouldn't go on becos of girls we ain't even sure were kidnapped? Hope this bukky woman didn't eat on the anniversary too or bath oo,cos it's insensitive too!

Taah, gerrout there Bukky. The woman should't do her thing because Chibok girls went missing 2years ago? Na she thief them? Even some of the parents of those girls would have had other babies since then. You guys should make the Chibok girls your lives if you want to, but please let Aisha Buhari live hers. For all you know, she doesn't have the date of their abduction in her head and had gone ahead to plan her book launch and should not cancel it because it's the anniversary of the girls missing. It is very unfortunate they are yet to be found but life has to go on.

Props should be given to PEJ for empathy. Even if it was over the top or staged. We won't forget 'there is God oh', 'wee you keep kwayet?' etc

Nonsense write up. If its so that means we won't do anything then cos people die everyday. Has the U.N declared 14th April a BBOG day? After all shes in Maiduguri right now. GEJ went to campaign in Kano on this very day.

she really disappointed most of us that went through hell years to support them to power, coming out from the blues to launch 'Beauty Therapy Book' what is its relevance to the socio economic hardship Nigerians are going through and the poor beautiful missing Chibok girls for two solid years?? Bukky, your observation is on point.

I personally don't support Mrs shonibare on this one.d first lady is a beautician and she has used her skills to write a book and as also agreed to use the proceeds from this book sale and launch to empower d chibok's girls parent.i think it is very kind of her.

Though I don't particularly follow the first family and yet to see what people see in them. But let me give benefit of the doubt. There are times when some things are just bad timing. She probably did not think of that and just made an unwise decision, but that doesn't mean she meant to be empathetic or insensitive. I know though as politicians they would probably try to clean up the mess with grammar or ignore it instead of simple apology. Hope she does the latter.
On to other news,

WRONG BUT RIGHT: PROLOGUE

The lady watched the children closely and bid her time. She was not in a hurry; she was more interested in results. She knew enough about how people goofed when they weren’t patient enough. She wondered if nobody ever told them patience is a virtue. It was a good thing she had common sense. From her position behind the willow trees – which formed a hedge around the entrance of the park – she could see the children.

Chai! Dis Bukky Shonibare dey vex o. Well, I so much love d valid points she raised sha. She was very objective and not as though she has personal vendetta against d 1st lady. One of d valid points she raised that killed it for me was "Nigeria as a nation has failed the Chibok girls" #gbam!# that nails it. U go woman. Thumbs up. We mustn't sit back and watch d govt do as dey like. We must keep talking and shouting their excesses until d much desired change we all crave is felt!

A woman for that matter,so inconsiderate about other women's plight,i blame her not ,it's the fools that graced the occasion i blame more. Cos if she had gone there and met no one,her ode book lunch would have been a total mess!

This is frank madness and stupidity! I am beginning to actually believe these people engineered the Chibok girls saga just to remove Jonathan otherwise how else do you explain this gross insensitivity!

hello Bukky pls there is no news here. You cant give what you do not have. Mr and Mrs President have always acted very insensitive when it comes to serious national matters. As Shakespare once said, "you are what you know" meaning that the only behaviour you can exhibit is the one within your knowledge scope. This is why Im sorry for Nigeria.

Buhari didnt comment about the killing of IPOB members at Onitsha and instead he was busy sympathizing with other country's predicament. The same goes to killing of the Shiites in Zaria, the Agatu killing in Benue, Fulani herdsmen invasion and killings in many parts of the country etc. In his mind, he is a politician and is really enjoying the game. Then what do you expect from the wife??

God will save us

please can someone remind these raging woman that the launch was done on this particular day cause they are using it to raise money for the family of the chibok girls. all we hear the BBOG do is make noise on social media. Are they actually in anyway providing support for the families and loved ones of the victims or are just shouting to claim self publicity.

Well said. I thought the same thing too. A book on "beauty therapy", we know that is her field but common, Nigerians are worried about food, fuel, light and how to scrape by. In comparison beauty therapy seems too trivial. And to see government officials on tax payers time, instead of using the time to work to make our country better are smiling at a book launch about beauty. And few meters away Nigerians are being burnt by the hot, merciless sun queuing for fuel. To go back to home, no food in their stomachs, no light to bring comfort. Smh, only in Nigeria

Unknown said...

Nigerian why are we still backwards must she kill her self on what she knows nothing about? Or must she jump straight to the lagoon bcos of chibok girls? Abeg ooo leave president Buhari and his family naa habba, some of una go enter lagoon soon ooo hen hen

Bukky should shut up pls, when she was busy having a banquet dinner with malala just weeks after the chibok girls were kidnapped how did she react to the criticisms, now she is flapping her gums, she should take a long walk off a short bridge. Bukky is a freaking opportuniay, and when stuff doesn't go her way, she throws tantrums

I never knew how painful it could be to be bereaved until the my father died. Before then it was fun to pay a condolence visit to others. ....eburu ozu onye ozo...

anonymous said...

Is Bukki Shonibare a Chibok Mum?, all the mothers of Chibok girls were at this book launch. The programme and Proceeds were both dedicated to them. Crying more than the bereaved, Does it make sense to sit under the sun annually mourning Chibok girls or making progress so that they can meet their parents alive (if they ever return). Aisha has done hers to the best of her knowledge, You can get more creative with BBOG than wearing Red shirt and walking round d federation, okay?. Nonsense

anonymous said...

Buki, were you celebrating Chibok girls kidnap with that your Dinner with Malala, Your dinner Have digested now, you are now writing rubbish. All the genuine Chibok Mothers were with Aisha Buhari at the book launch which was dedicated to them. Are you more important than the parents who's girls were kidnapped and never found?... They got all the proceeds from the book launch and are happy for the recognition, what is your business?, this incident happened 2 years ago for God's sake, they have not been found, efforts are ongoing, temporary plan is to resettle the families & get them busy. But you prefer them to walk under the sun unlike they crash & die, could you please release your brains from captivity?

Miss Bulky there is no sense at all in what u write. Insensitive is when u sit down n do nothing wailing, wearing red an making hateful comments on the anniversary of the kidnap of girls Dat u so think u care about about someone that chose to do something positive ie raising funds for the said problem u r doing nothing about but rather been politically hypocritical about. Insensitivity is when u r in ur mansion at Abuja or wherever writing Insensitive comments about someone who is actually in maiduguri trying to raise funds for the problem u r being hypocritical about. If u really care that much abeg go and join the Nigerian military and stop this blame game cus it will never not in this life time Bring back our girls.
