FG reduces pump price of fuel; statement by the Petroleum Minister

What Diezani Alison-Madueke said this evening as she announced a reduction in fuel price...
As you may be aware, there has been a lot of volatility in the oil market in the past few months and due to this the importation prices of our petroleum products have been impacted.

Therefore, with the approval and directive of Mr. President and by virtue of Section 6 clause 1 of the Nigerian Petroleum Act, it is my responsibility as Minister of Petroleum Resources to hereby announce a reduction in the pump price of Petroleum Motor Spirit (Petrol) from the current Ninety Seven Naira (=N=97) per litre pump price down to Eighty Seven Naira (=N87=) per litre pump price, effective from twelve (12) midnight Sunday, 18th of January 2015.

Accordingly, I have directed the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to ensure strict compliance of this price adjustment by all marketing companies.

It is my hope that all Nigerians will benefit from this adjustment.  I thank you and God Bless you all.

Diezani Alison-Madueke (Mrs.) CON

Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources

Full meaning of APC-- ASSOCIATION OF PAST CRIMINALS (APC ).check this out;
APC has been consistent in saying that PDP has ruled Nigeria for 16 disastrous years in which corruption, impunity, insurgency, armed robbery and several ills of society held sway. But at a very close look at the APC, I am seeing: 1)Rotimi Amaechi – 8 years speaker; 7 year, Governor under PDP.
2)Atiku Abubakar – 8 years Vice president under PDP. 3)George Akume – 8 years Governor under PDP. 4)Bukola Saraki – 8 years Governor; 2 years, Senator under PDP.
5)Timipre Sylver – 4 years Governor under PDP. 6)Audu Ogbe – 2 years National Chairman of the PDP. 7)Aminu Masari – 4 years as the Speaker, House of Representatives under PDP.
8)Chris Ngige – 3 years Governor under PDP. 9)Rabiu Kwankwaso – 7 years Governor; 3 years Defense minister under PDP.
10)El Rufai – 4 years FCT Minister; 2 years BPE Chairman under PDP.
11)Tambuwal-3years as Speaker House of Reps under PDP; and to cap it all, Obasanjo is the navigator of the APC, a man who spent 8 of the disastrous 16 years as the maximum ruler of Nigeria. It is now clear that APC is a waste basket of the PDP, where the people who created and perpetuated the 16 disastrous years are now dumped. So where is the change coming from?

Are they now saints because they joined APC?Pls be WISE & VOTE WISELY

Oil fell more than 50% from $120 to $50 pb but we get only 10% cut. Wish you explained that better.

Meanwhile what about diesel??? You guys ain't getting it. You can't grow and economy and reduce unemployment without energy. Reducing diesel prices impacts better on the economy than fuel. It is used to produce & move goods about.

I am a tiny small scale factory. I use 100 litres of diesel everyday. If I get N10.00 cut at the pump, I could employ 1 more person .....

Nigerians don't be fooled, this is kiss of death, don't embrace it. A government that is riddled with gross incompetence and stinking corruption cannot, does not have the political will, and will not enforce the implementation of =N=87 per Litre. This is a dumb political strategy to get votes on Valentine Day, that was probably conceptualised by an idiot and being implemented by "area boys economists" How do you tell an independent marketer who bought 33,000 litres of pms and is supposed to sell at =N=97 per litre, to just suddenly adjust his pump price to =N=87 per Litre @ 12 midnight today? How will Okonjo-Iweama, address the budget deficit and fall out from this global oil problem and the current Naira devaluation and inflation ? Deziani, na you biko! Bitch, you must either be highly stupid or highly misinformed to make such a comment. It's evident you've not been keeping up with what's been happening in the oil market and the international fall in the price of the product. Well, this doesn't come as a surprise in the very least especially as it's coming from someone whom the only news she gets comes from a blog which focuses primarily on celebrity gossip. Mtscheew. Go educate yourself girl.

Unknown said...

Babe, do you even know anything about fuel subsidy? If you do, you'd knoe that it's not the president that fixes oul price, but rather, make it possible for dumbasses like you to afford it from the extravagant price slapped on this product by the oil companies. Please, spend more time educating yourself on these things rather than on LIB listening to and commenting on things that would not impact you or the country in any positive way.

Unknown said...

Jesus. You must be really dumb if you don't know that there has been a massive fall in the price of this product in the international market and that "reducing the price" has "NOT been possible all this while". Please people, educate yourself on matters before coming on here to post really uninformed, senseless, annoying and sometimes even insensitive comments.

Dude, it's obvious u don't own a vehicle that's y u don't know the value of d N10 removed from d price. This is a very welcomed development. And trust me, it's not "bcos of elections" that made pump pricw drop; it doesn't work that way.

SWILL MARTIN said...

Osheeeee!

Unknown said...

Dude, do u even know of fuel subsidy? If anyone is to blame for the high prices of petroleum product, it's d oil companies who see no reason to build refineries in the country but rather, import "already exported" crude products from the country and have dem refined and sent back to them where they'll then slap a heavy price tag for the products. This is where the govt comes in in putting a "subsidy" on the product so that stupid citizens like u can even afford the damn product. YOU KNOW WHAT? Seeing all dese comments on here makes me question the 2012 riots and protests held in the country when the government decided to remove fuel subsidy to encourage local refining of the product. It's obvious people just went on protesting without even having an idea of how these things work, what they meant and the possible benefits to the masses.

SuperDuperNaija said...

A mere 10 naira reduction when crude price dropped from 109 to 50 naira. Maybe the thousands that have lost their lives in the north east or the missing Chibok Girls will be impressed but not me.

SuperDuperNaija said...

Crude prices have been falling since Q3 2014 and right now it's less than half the price it used to be so why the sudden reaction by the govt? So yes the reduction is towards the elections and no Jona still doesn't get our votes.

Its obvious nigerians are shallow thinkers, the govt isnt subsidising anything anymore. The price of crude dropped by 50% so N10 is nothing. Its cheaper to deregulate now, so we will get pms at about N75-80 and tbe govt gets save about N800b annually. Now they are claiming to subsidize but instead they are making money off we citizens. Stop praising this useless govt

Anonymous said...

Fucking BASTARDS!!! Ever since the subsidy had served its purpose effectively it's now u realize its time to slash the price cos of election. This simply means the following;

> Few oil magnates and marketers have raked in billions of Naira from this for years. N10/ litre is what u people are willing to sacrifice from out of the subsidy scam (only God knows from how much Naira per litre u people gain)

> The fact that this was the right step to have been taken since and only executed now shows u have been watching us suffer for what we don't deserve and u all folded your arms while u enjoy the oil subsidy largesse.

> Funny how its now we need the subsidy money the most to serve as a hedge against devaluation is when u slashing the price. That's if u actually made good use of the subsidy money and our reserve funds.

U will only start shooting yourself in the leg if u begin to solve some Nigerian economic problems now in the space of one month which u failed to do in several years u had the chance. This only shows that u know those behind our suffering as a country NIGERIA. Either u support it or u afraid to confront it. All I know is this is medicine after death. Monopoly of govt power by parties is the major problem. No party should feel too comfortable that NIGERIA is their's when they keep fucking up. Read up on "MEN THAT BUILT AMERICA" u will understand what I mean by monopoly of power.

CONCLUSION: I'll vote for Buhari to give him a chance, BUT by God if he messes up then we all vote him OUT again. I feel it's time we give other parties a chance BUT once their elected candidate fucks up then we move onto the next available party even if not well known.

NOTE: I'm not an APC fan, just that Buhari is the only strong candidate other than our current president Jonathan. Sick of politicking...

what indices did the minister use to arrive at 10 naira reduction. Crude oil sells for less than 50 dollars per barrel at the international market. I would have expected the Federal Government to scrap subsidy entirely following the collapse of crude oil price at the international market. That was what i was expecting. Let the government give us the breakdown of how much a litre of fuel should actually sell following the drop in the price of crude oil. Subsidy should be scraped

After reading so many comments here it goes to show that Nigeria is filled with illiterates that know how to speak English and are controlled by propaganda. They are so myopic to realise that the world is bigger than Nigeria and that Nigerian Economy does not control the word but rather it's the other way round.
It's a big SHAME on you if you do not know that the global oil price has from over $100 per barrel from just November 2014 to $46 - $50 now. And that is a reason to drop the prices of products.
Please Nigerians try educating yourselves properly before you end up in a foolish man's backyard.

Try learn some economics my dear. It's not by what you can afford but rather the best price available in the market. Oil is a global product and is not controlled by Nigeria.
