It’s a New Dawn for Pregnant Women and New Mothers in Oyo State

Lines have fallen in pleasant places for pregnant women and new mothers in Oyo State with the commissioning of the revamped maternal wards in four hospitals by the MTN Foundation (MTNF). Equipped with ultra-modern executive beds, incubators and other facilities, and renovated to create a beautiful ambiance, the modernized wards would contribute significantly to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality rate in the state and the nation as a whole.

Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital, Ibadan; Ring Road State Hospital, Ibadan; General Hospital Igbeti and State Hospital Oyo are the four beneficiary hospitals of this initiative by the MTNF under its Maternal Ward Support Project. The initiative is aimed at complementing Government’s national objective of reducing maternal and infant mortality in Nigeria.
Commissioning the maternity wards, the Executive Governor of the State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, in his goodwill message, expressed joy and gratitude to the Foundation for collaborating with his government to refurbish the 4 maternal wards in the State. “MTN Nigeria through their Foundation, have shown great responsibility and blazed the trail for others by providing quality health facilities for the benefit of our people. I strongly advise other corporate organizations to emulate this gesture and show support by giving back to the communities they operate in.”Ajimobi Said.

Six states: Abia, Cross River, Niger, Oyo, Kaduna and Sokoto, emerged as the beneficiary in this first phase after a rigorous selection and verification process on the heels of a publication of expression of interest in national dailies (click here to view story).

A total of 24 maternal wards in the six selected hospitals in these states will benefit under this first phase of the MTNF Maternal Ward Support Project.

Each of the newly commissioned wards is equipped with:

20 hospital beds with cardiac rest

          20 standard hospital mattresses

          20 standard hospital bed pillows

          10 four-way foldable ward screens

          20 metal bedside cupboards

          20 visitors’ chairs

          10 drip stands

          20 hydraulic over-bed tables

          10 height adjustable baby cots

          2 Carl Novel baby incubators

The MTN Foundation has invested over N18billion since inception in 2005 and has over 550 project sites across Nigeria.

This is really nice.

But does it mean it's only MTN that understands standards?

The state government does not know this kind of standard is possible?

Na was for our government o!

Thanks MTN.

Do we have govt? If we do then it's their pockets that they know

Maybe we should give MTN Foundation a local government to run and let us compare it with how the state government will run theirs. The amount spent for the renovation and provision of the clinical equipment is less than a month salary of 3 of our legislators combined. God bless Naija
