Buhari appeals to Nigerians to be patient with him while he works on the changes needed to grow the economy

President Buhari through a statement by the Presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu appealed to Nigerians to be patient with him over the difficulties in the land, adding that the change he promised will be achieved soon.
As part of the change, the President ordered the release of 10,000 tons of grains from the national strategic grains reserves to help alleviate hard times people were suffering.
The statement reads in full...
The Presidency firmly rejects the insinuations that poverty and lack are products of the Change mantra. This should be dismissed as an erroneous and misplaced opposition criticism. The President understands the pain and the cries of the citizens of this country and he is spending sleepless nights over how he can make life better for everyone.
Contrary to assertions by a faction of the opposition Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, the President’s energy and focus are on changing the lives of Nigerians, with a view to making it better than he met it.
“Change is a process. Change does not happen overnight. Change can be inconvenient. Change sometimes comes with pain. Over the past year, the government has been working night and day to deliver on its promise of change to Nigerians, and the painful process is still ongoing. “This is work in progress
. As life gradually returns to normal in much of the country and the northeast in particular, agriculture will resume and traders from neighbouring African countries will once again feel safe to do business with us. “It is estimated, for instance, that three Northeast states of Nigeria alone have so far lost about three trillion Naira (Nine billion US Dollars) to the Boko Haram insurgency.
The previous administration at the center said Federal Government losses amounted to about USD18 billion. “It would have been a miracle for our country’s economy not to feel the effects of this. And, in addition to the thousands of lives lost to the insurgency, thousands have also lost their means of livelihood.
The northeast region of Nigeria is a mostly agrarian society, which means Nigeria has lost billions of naira in agricultural produce. Many communities, which have had their yearly planting and harvesting cycle disrupted by Boko Haram attacks or occupation are still yet to return to their farms. In many of these communities, there have not been planting and consequent harvest for between two to five years.
“At the time this government came to power, about 600 billion naira was owed to fuel marketers in subsidy payments. Strategic fuel reserves were depleted and local refineries not functioning. “One of the President’s first steps was to pay off the marketers, leaving an outstanding of about N150 billion which is captured in the 2016 budget. The Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries are being brought back to life. Shortly, Nigeria will resume refining its own fuel rather than depending on imports.
” As part of the permanent solution of recurring cycle of petroleum products shortages, government is working on a plan to ensure that some of the newly-licensed independent refineries start coming on stream from 2018.” “Government is also turning its attention to the sabotage of the oil and gas infrastructure that has taken so much away from the generation and distribution of electricity.”
“These are just some aspects of the change that Nigerians voted for, a change that is happening and which will soon be felt by Nigerians in every nook and cranny of our country. “Nigerians are a people renowned for our inner strength and our ability to triumph. These are just the darkest days before the dawn. The change Nigerians voted has indeed begun.”

I feel so hurt and ashamed that I voted for this man. I even campaign unpaid to see change. Now I can understand the sufferings people talked about during his old regime in 1985.
Nothing is working properly in our country. No fuel. No electricity. Dollars in the increase. Yet no strike actions because he has appointed fellow Hausa men all over.
Buhari all I can say Is well done. Our eyes dun clear.
You are just another politician. We await result for next election.
And to even read this. You are not sorry at all. Just mere publication.
In 1985 you had 150 cattles. 2015 you have 150 cattles. God bless you man. You have less than 20 years on earth. Your kids have more than that. To all you politicians. You all must die some day and leave this stolen wealth. Your children will never enjoy these wealth. Trust God .

Dear Mr. President, We have heard these statements too many times. next month will be your one year in office and no sign of any change. A change have to start somewhere and spread gradually but in your case it has not even started at all. Do you want to use this method to return back to power after your tenure? No way.... If your party cannot deliver as promised, be sure you will leave the office in 2019. You want to waste the first three years looking for solutions and start implementation on the fourth year so that you will remain in power. No way for your party. We have been deceived and we cannot continue to be fools

If they had made these definitions before the elections Nigerian would think of the definition before they decide. But all this definitions of change are coming after the elections which confused Nigeria more than the poverty we are subjected to.

Nigerians are too impatient. This man met a mess created and nutured for close to two decades yet they want him to perform miracle.Crude oil has been less than 45 Dollars for over a year now, when it was over 100 dollars, the government in power mismanaged and shared the money with cronies rather than saving, investing in infrastructure and building institutions. When men of wisdom charted a course to rebuild Nigeria and bring change,Wolves infiltrated their ranks, invited the enemy including strange bedfellows and formed a power block in the Senate so much so that the 2016 budget was manipulated and remain unpassed amongst other shenanigan going on .With all these playing out, what do you expect the president to do?The ministry of information and other media minders of the president should engage the people more so that the citizen can understand the magnitude of the rot and be more patient as we climb out of the great depression. A house with faulty foundation may be pulled down in a day but will require several days to be rebuild. All Nigerian should look inwards and be prepared to make sacrifices , this is the reality of today.

Unknown said...

WE SUPPORT YOU OUR DEAR PRESIDENT ALL THE WAY, GO AHEAD; EVEN IF WE HAVE TO CHAIN THE MONEY AND PLAN BEFORE WE SPEND OR SHARE, ITS BETTER THAN SHARING IT WITHOUT PLANNING AS WE HAVE COME TO SEE AND KNOW NOW; POSTERITY WILL SURELY BLESS U

By the Grace of God, I trust president Buhari will eventually lead Nigeria unto greater heights.... Honestly, I am very confident about that.
I also agree that the situation of the country at the moment is very very hard, but I believe firmly that when things are about the change, the first stages are usually quite difficult cos those are the times you encounter difficulties that you probably never understood before.

Long live Nigeria, God Bless Nigeria.

If during the last regime is seen to be corrupt there was no outcry, how come so much pains and out cry in a corrupt free administration? Thank you Mr President. No pain no gain. We understand you fully well. Wailers can go to hell because they caused this in the first place after looting all the money.

Anonymous said...

It took PDP 16 years to destroy Nigeria and they expect Buhari to fix it in one year when he is not a magician. Change is a gradual process and not an overnight miracle. Block heads!

Anonymous said...

Buhari sent a press statement last december preparing our minds for hard times in the first half of this year. He said in that statement that for him to correct the oil subsidy problem, Nigerians will have to go through some hards times in the first half of this year and afterwards, there will be releaf. So i do no understand what the wailing is for.

Anonymous said...

Change is like when you are sick and you go to the hospital for treatment. The doctor will give you an injection that will cause you pain before releaf will come. If there is not injection, there is no way you can get well. This is thesame pain Nigerians are passing through now for the change to take place. Buhari had to take the bull by the horn to effect the change even if it will cause us pain because this is the only way Nigeria can get better by removing fuel subsidy. No pain, no gain!

Anonymous said...

Awon wailers will never understand even though they know the bitter truth. I dont know why Buhari is wasting his precious time explaining to the blind looting and corrupt followers. Stmcheew

Sam said...

Wailers always shy away from the truth. Well done my able president. Thumbs up!

Anonymous said...

Nigerians have never learnt to see beyond their nose. Because they are feeling the pain of what some people have been feeling for years they are all wailing. If things are being patched up just like before they won't complain cos they aren't affected at all by the situations that have been lingering right from time waiting to explode. Instead of the youths to think about how Nigeria can be better during this difficult time in terms of renewable energy or Agriculture. They are on social media just complaining when some others are using, this time, to stamp their ground in business and the economy.

Blame it on Jonathan's adminiatration. Buhari is still trying to clean up GEJ's mess. So be patient. Rome was not built in a day.

Nigerians are naturally impatient people by nature. This can be seen in the way they drive cars, they jump queues, they disobey traffic lights, they take one way etc. Nigerians should learn patience which is a virtue. Even God Himself is a patient God.
