RIP to the corpers who lost their lives yesterday

I'm sure you've all heard. Yesterday 18 fresh graduates of Imo State University all died in a fatal road accident, while on their way to Taraba State for their National Youth Service Corps.

The students all got their call up letters late from their university on Thursday March 8th and in a bid to catch up with other corpers, as registration was closing yesterday Friday March 9th, they chartered a small bus on Thursday night to convey them to their orientation Camp. Unfortunately, they didn't get there. They all died on their way. So sad. May their souls rest in peace...amen.

ONOME says...............................
Rest in peace.....so sorry about this;your families and friends must be absolutely devastated....after training a child for years now time to enjoy the fruits of the hard work then this sh***t happens;makes you wonder......
BTW how did the accident happen??The details are so sketchy..........
Bad roads, overspeeding,no traffic lights, cars not roadworthy;bad drivers who have no business being on the road;driving under the influence;no emergency accident services;the list goes on......
REST IN PEACE GUYS,,,,,,so sad so very sad

E ya... May their souls rest in peace. This NYSC is not needed. It should be scrapped. Every year, there is news that a fresh graduate died while serving his\her country. I feel so sad for their families...

People let us sign a petition to end nysc. nigeria is not being developed: poor roads and other facilities and when they get there no guarantees for their safety. we r just sending innocent lives to their early graves.

This NYSC is not worth the sacrifice. So so sad. I can imagine them being filled with hope and expectation having finally collecting their call up letters, only to face death. NYSC should be optional, there are too many risks involved, haba!

It is sad, all Nigerian youths should vehemently refuse to do anything NYSC, it is a waste of time, lives and resources of graduates to serve a country that is not even giving them the necessities of life.....Pardon my language but FUCK NYSC.....

They school is partly to be blamed. Why issue call up letters so close to the deadline when you know people are going far and wide. Call up letters should be given some days to the deadline so that people can take their time and don't have to rush. The funny part is that the school may not learn from this lesson and during the next batch you will still see students getting theirs very late. Very sad indeed.

Question: why call up letter never dey arrive early enough?
Answer: wickedness and corruption of NYSC officials even school administrators. They'll never get their acts well and process these names for posting.

See na, if all that had to be done was done when it should be, these to-be corpers would have been alive now.
By the way, I thought that with Boko-Haram no Southern based student will want to go there.
My heartfelt condoence to the families now mourning. God be with you and strenghten you.

My plea to NYSC

The death rate of corps members is alarming. There is no year that deaths are not recorded. It is either some corpers die before they arrive camp, while serving or worse still on their way home after service. This is so much pain for friends and families. I also know a couple of good things like marriages and jobs have taken place because of NYSC but constant death is not nice. Government should have a rethink, if we must serve outside our States, then it should be regionalized!

How do you explain this one now? Carelessness on the part of IMSU's administration, bad roads overlooked by our leaders or maybe, reckless driving.... Na wah!!! May their souls rest in peace, and may God grant their loved ones the fortitude to bear this horrible loss. So so so sad...

So what is GEJ planning to do? Give each family 1 million as usual? (only comes to 18 million which is probably chicken feed to these guys). Next year they want to start posting corpers only to villages, with routes that have no roads and they can't even make call-up letters ready in time for people to make proper arrangements. Every day for the thief...

PalavaMama said...

Nysc can never be scrapped cos it's a source of cheap labour particularly in the north. So many schools in d backward state of Taraba do not av teachers. i was so shocked to see schools where all d teachers were corpers. Only d Principals were full-paid staff. When u av this kind of situation, do u think d north would want it scrapped? Never

Anonymous said...

It makes no sense posting corpers from IMSU to Taraba State. They should serve in the southern states and those in the northern states should serve there. The parents of the children should make trouble with Fed. Govt.

may dia soul rest in perfect peace! Wat a painful exit,,,,,RIP fwends

Sooo sad. May they all RIP. Quite sad but dd NYSC set traps 4 them on d road or forced them to travel at nyt? The sch is to blame not fed. Govt. If nysc had rejected dem b4 boarding... But d sch was wrong to ve released d letters late. Let's evn stop blaming, let's pray 4 them n their families. *sad*

Anonymous said...

i graduated from IMSU. The organization is haphazard when it comes to sharing call up letters. imagine 4 staffs, attending to over 1400 intending corpers at a stretch?? and then they stop issuing it daily when its 4pm. Why wouldn't those kids rush to beat camp deadline?.
The Dean of Student Affairs and his co horts should be held responsible ,no thanks to their poor logistic planning.RIP Imo stars

...but why are you using other corpers pictures like they are the ones that died?I am guessing the deceased ones did not get to camp so they did not have uniforms yet.

This Situtation of issuing of callup letters very late in imo state university is a serious concern.

My friend was almost a victim when she was posted to bauchi 3 years, she arrived at the camp very late, her callup was issued to her 2 days to the closure of camp, and she couldnt go in,but to God be the glory, they extended the camp reg time, after going to Governors House and the emirs.

The imo state governor should wade through this matter by questioning the school authourities, this accident is just a mere carelessness from the school authourities just to frustrate its student and here is the result.

Anonymous said...

So sad n heartbreaking!.... After all d stress, strain n struggles of life. Oh what a wicked world! My heartfelt condolence to d bereaved family... I pray govt (federal govt or Imo state govt) recognises them as corpers. I knw it wil not make amend for their obstinacy towards d scheme, but atleast will go a long way towards alleviating the bitterness of their families. May their great souls rest in perfect peace, Amen!
