The 12 soldiers who attacked their GOC in Maiduguri have been sentenced to death

13 out of the 18 soldiers standing trial for participating in the mutiny (revolt action) against their General Officer Commanding, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Mohammed at the newly created 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri on May 12th have been sentenced to death by a military court that sat in Abuja yesterday night September 15th.

Five others were discharged and acquitted while one was jailed for 28 days with hard labor. Choi, they should temper justice with mercy biko o. Continue

The soldiers had on May 14th revolted against poor remuneration and lack of sophisticated weapons to fight Boko Haram. On that particular day, the soldiers lost their cool after seeing the corpse of some of their colleagues killed by Boko Haram men. They immediately opened fire on their GOC, who luckily escaped unhurt.

The President of the Court Martial (military court), Maj. Gen. C.C. Okonkwo, while delivering his judgement said the 12 soldiers were found guilty of criminal conspiracy, mutiny, attempt to commit murder (shooting at the vehicle of the GOC); insubordination to a particular order; insubordination and false accusation.
Those sentenced are Jasper Braidolor, David Musa, Friday Onuh, Yusuf Shuaibu, Igonmu Emmanuel, Andrew Ugbede, Nurudeen Ahmed, Ifeanyi Alukagba, Alao Samuel, Amadi Chukwuma, Alan Linus, and Stephen Clement.

The legal team of the convicts pleaded with the court martial to be lenient and temper justice with mercy stating that some of the men convicted were the sole providers of their families. One of the convict is said to be the only child of his 80 year old mother while another is said to be the father of a 5-month old baby. The legal team argued that giving them maximum sentence would do more harm than good, adding that it would increase the agony of their dependants.

Other members of the court are: Col. TS Nurseman, Col. TO Olowomeye, Col. IG Lassa, Lt.Col. JK Feboke, Lt. Col. CR Nnebeife, Major I Yusuf, Major TA Yakubu and Major AE Martins.
Lt. Col. AA Audu and Lt. Col. U Ukpe served as prosecutors.

Pheeeew! Life could be so unfair.
The general rode in a well protected armoured personnel carrier, while they were meant to face Boko haram with mere koboko and machete.
And to crown it,they will be killed for staking their lives to protect others.
May God give their friends and relatives the fortitude to bear these impending losses.

This is wicked! and very disappointing, I hope our so called "human right activist" will rise to this occasion and let these 'heroes' off the hook of this corrupt jungle justice military court martial judgment. Same judgment was meted out at our brave combatant soldiers that went on Liberia mission only to come back and be denied of their benefits and entitlement. This country is in a deep shit... by the extreme greed of the big belle military senior boys. I bet, the GOC that sent the boys on a suicide mission is a Boko haram member and he decided to waste some of our good guys serving the nation whole heartedly by the virtue of his action. This country is useless...

Is this how to discipline? what kind of message does the 'senior boys' think they are sending out to the few soldiers committed to defending out nation, perhaps the awareness is that, the next time you have such an occurrence the GOC should be killed and let the consequences be faced.....useless people!

They should have thought about how harsh it was when they sentenced their general to death. Now justice (in other words Karma) has to prevail. think before you do things, and when you decide to do them, don't cry crocodile tears when its time to dance to the beat of the tune you decided to play.

Nigerians are very good at this. They will consciously do something wrong, and when they are caught and brought for punishment they will begin to plead and swear with their first ancestor that they are sorry and will never do it again. And then when they are released, they do it again. In other words what does that define?.. Sociopaths!

Under military law across the world, MUTINY IS PUNISHABLE BY ONLY DEATH. Its unfortunate to be dis way, but that is what needs to be done or else anarchy would be the order of the day

It's understandable the emotions most people feel here, but look the constitution of the military anywhere in the world is clear to the soldiers that serve within it. Mutiny in the military is a very GRAVE offence, especially when you try to kill a superior officer, a general for that matter, a GOC for that matter. Do you guys know a GOC is like next in hierarchy to the chief of army staff? This action of the soldiers shows gross indiscipline & the soldiers knew what consequences they'd face for such an action(by the constitution of the military) if caught yet they went ahead to do it.
This action of theirs is a direct threat to even the life of the president & that's why the military doesn't joke with such things. If any soldier can do this,it means that they can easily sell secrets of the military to enemies of the nation & even aid the enemy (which at this point in time is boko haram). It's a sad thing, but the soldiers knew that a death sentence is usually the reward for such an action, but they still went ahead to do it.

I bet that nothing will happen to them. They have the right to appeal and Nigeria won't waste the lives of 12 gallant soldiers. This is not North Korea.
