A 400L student of Chemical Engineering, department of Ladoke
Akintola, University of Technology LAUTECH Ogbomosho, Fatai Kolawole, slumped while playing a novelty match organized by his Department earlier this week. According to some of his colleagues, Fatai, who was still gasping for air, was quickly rushed to School Health Center where he later died.
One of his colleagues explains...
"They gave him breathing tube and tried to cajole us when they knew there was no oxygen in the cylinder. It was when they knew things were getting out of hand that they told us to rush him to Bowen Hospital Ogbomosho, few miles away from the Campus. A nurse was instructed to follow us anyway...we requested for the Health center Ambulance but we were told the driver was sent to buy food, so we hustled our way by hiring a car that conveyed us. On our way, we were stopped by the SARS (Special anti-robbery Squad) we tendered our urgency and they helped us clear the way to Bowen Hospital, when we got there he was rushed inside the emergency ward with news only reaching us outside that the Doctor has certified him dead.
We got back to Health center to report situation of things, when we met the Doctor-in- charge (named withheld) who said fatai was dead even before we brought him from the field. That was a big lie, i was the one who carried him in my arms inside the health center and i am very sure he was still gasping for air, fighting for his dear life".
The Student Union Government Leader,Bakare Solace led a peaceful protest to the Senate building..

All we see is just thrash. And before we talk they'll say you're laughing to the bank, even MC Hammer laughed to the bank where is he now. Linda you need redirections or rather one or two 'D'.
I pray God grant his family d fortitude to bear their loss. RIP.
Everyone should be made to learn what to do as a lay man in this kind of emergency,he probably suffered sudden cardiac arrest and since he was still breathing any one of the students could have given him CPR,a simple training of laymen that would have saved this young man's life. For free CPR training call Segy's Pharmacy @013426283
Sad, may his soul rest in peace. Linda take note!

All this slump and die case don dey too much sef.
Linda u sef, u just dey post bad news anyhow, why not try and help out. sometime last week u published a post abt an organization that render First Aid training, why nt partner with them to train teachers as your CSR to the public.. It will really go a long way and its better than dashing people money. even if it is training teachers, especially those that work in creche, nursery and primary schs.. It wont be a bad idea.

student really wanted to set the health center ablaze so that the school can build another but the SUG president (solace) is really gentle I guess......he went to the senate building alone and came out declaring peace......there are over 35000 student in Lautech and each pay 65000 and some 72000........the health center is like a 6 bedroom apartment having only one ambulance and so many auxiliary nurses.....my roommate almost died bcos of dis health center she was having typhoid and she was given anti malaria drugs and injection ,when she didn't get better we had to rush her home she ended up spending days in a hospital.......Lautech health center killed the boy

What a sad news. this is why it's very good for people to know the importance of emergency first aid training. i read sometime here a post about an organization that trains people on emergency first aid when cases like this arise. its high time we took things like this a bit more seriously. who knows, that guy might just still be alive.
What is it with football and slumping nowadays sef. RIP
And another student dies due to poor health care. May his soul rest in peace

The dude's death was a shocker to the whole school...the school was put on hold and even a 3-day mourn was declared but the dead is dead. negligence or not, facilities or not... let's just hope for a better Nigeria. Morenikeji wouldn't have died. RIP to the dead!
This is really heartbreaking! May his soul rest in peace....

Rip bro. Guys go for test and cardiovascular scans. When you know your are active in most rigorous exercises and sports. Earlier last month a 500leve electrical engineering student (Unizik) also slumped and died. So guys pls get scans and tests done cos this reckless dying might be due to heart failure, which wasn't identified on time.
Linda you need to work on your English please.
RIP
May his soul continue to rest in peace..Amen.
R.i.p..
Really very fucked up situation we are I this country and to think that they can't be effectively sued for negligence! SMH. RIP to the unlucky chap. Amen.
Sad....may his soul rest in peace
May his soul rest in peace. His friends shld have rushed him to general hospital at isale general at least they have better doctors there. There are so many things some of us are ignorant of like d CPR. That would have given him more time, but I guess it never occurred to his friends to try that. And wen I was in Lautech the health care was very good and they had good doctors, the health care even had a gym. And they have standard equipment but I guess things have changed since 2006 wen I left. It is well n this is a lesson to all of us. First aid first. God help us
May God console his parents.......so sad
