LOL @ a suicide making the headlines in Nigeria. There are dozens of them daily in the US. Rarely makes the news except it's a particularly spectacular one or it's a celebrity.
You shouldn't call someone ignorant when you exhibit sever signs of it urself! Linda is saying the same thing dere is no excuse meaning that every problem deffs has a solution all you have to do is look for it, mental problems included. The guy in question was obviously not clinically depressed he was overwhelmed by shame which humans a wont to do once in a while. :)

Depression, Anxiety are all mental health issues and any of these can lead to suicide. This didn't just start today, it seems like it cos now we have more access to information (thanks to the internet).
People have been committing suicide for various reasons since time in memorial...
With that said suicide isn't an option. The man clearly needed help which he didn't receive. Now he is gone.

I can relate to this cause I had a problem in school,that was so humilating, I was so depressed,but suicide was never an option.some people are not that strong,I had the support of my family,and a few real friends,the whole world sank on me,I felt like I would not make it through but I held my head up high

Suicide is a strange thing I am hearing in Nigeria.God have mercy on us all.
Lots of people are very IGNORANT (yes, I said it) about suicide. May we never be in a place so low that we stop thinking rationally and see death as the only way out. Depression, schizophrenia etc are ILLNESSES that lead people to take their own lives. It really bothers me when people rain abuses on suicide victims. Not everybody has the right support systems. What we should be doing is seeking education and not displaying ignorance by thinking suicide victims wished a suicidal mindset on themselves. Suicide is horrible and is, of course, never the solution but most victims get to a point where they TRULY BELIEVE THEY HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE.

It would amaze you if you went to any of the psychiatric hospitals and see the calibre of patients they have, from bank executives to children of the high and mighty. folks who had amazing jobs at oil companies to chicks who seemed to have dropped straight out of heaven's assembly line.mental illness is still a taboo in Nigeria and is no way a sign of end times like most ignorant people would say, but unfortunately because of cyber bullies who speak without being well informed,such people never get any help from fora like this.this guy was stressed into a state of depression and following that state are suicidal thoughts that if strong enough push them to actually do it.
I should know cos my genius uncle committed suicide when he was regarded as one of the best brains in this country and my family never talks about his depression cos it was caused by a failed relationship and secondly I hav been a doctor for over a decade.

@ Uche, #realtalk. we tend to underplay depression in our society and other mental and psychological illnesses in this place. we turn everything to spirituality and condemn people based on our religious beliefs. Here we do not have any therapists or people to reach out to. theres medications that help people with this illness. I have suffered from depression since i was 13 and its something i battle with almost everyday. People just look at u and say "oh u have nasty mmood swings or ur very moody". well i wish i had someone to talk to that would really understand, cos sometimes, ur family, ur best friends, ur pastor, dont really understand. Ive had days so low ive contemplated ending it all and how i would do it and the only thing that gets me thru those days and keeps me grounded is my lovely daughter. i dont want to miss out on her life and i must admit my religious beliefs also play a vital role cos i believe its a sin and i wont see my mother again if i dont make heaven.
Fact still remains dpression is real and among us and we shud try and support people with it and not condemn people that lose their battle with this mental illness and take their own lives.

Linda, how can you say there is no excuse for suicide , did you know what he was going through, did you know what was been said about him, do you know if his parents would have preferred him dead than what was to be revealed, please be more considerate with what you say on your blog, if only he had someone to support him through whatever the issue was, may his soul rest in peace, and seriously you need to consider some comments that are made on your blog regarding the dead, we all have suicidal tendencies but God will not allow us to experience what will make us take our lives, including you Linda

Linda, this is such a huge loss. the guy was very talented. I have taken pains 2 go through this guy's facebook wall from inception till date and he doesnt strike me as one who could do such but notwithstanding, kindly follow up this story 2 investigate the truth cos presently someone is making a mockery of his death by using his profile 2 post stuffs on facebook even after his demise. something is just not right about this. i am a lawyer and i know wat i am saying. if u read through his previous posts, u will notice that he writes in very good english but dis post about the END was written by someone who doesnt speak good english. please i beg u in God's name help d family by following up this story. this will also help other youths out there. Please visit a psychiatrist for medication review and for referral for any psychotherapeutic interventions available in your community. Meanwhile well done for keeping positive.

i am suicidal, one day in my bathroom as i spoke to GOD. i was reminded of how JESUS wanted to die also due to his suffering. he said GOD let this cup pass me by if it is your will. this is what i say now, unlike before where i would say GOD i want to die, let me die i am tired, and thoughts of killing myself. another time as i cried in bed and read my bible i came across a passage that said the man who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates it will keep it for eternal life. this is for suicidal people like me. i have not asked for any ignorant comments here. if you are like me just say this when u are in that mental state dear GOD if its your will let this cup pass me by according to your will and not mine.

She only said did "There's never an excuse for suicide": there are lots of treatment options, seek professional help, talk to someone, take your medications... and the person suggesting she should travel overseas to gain more exposure, shame on you.
