Even our so called leaders can't be civilized about social media....every expression has to be insults na wa o and aggressiveness

Anonymous said...

I don't think this is funny... Why give this smith guy an attention? I'm not a fan of Adeola Yayi but he didn't say anything wrong by saying he won't support the bill. Linda grow up abeg and stop giving cheap popularity. Even your heading "lol" is insulting, you should be neutral and let the masses be the judge.

Truth be told. Nigerians are very insultive. They will insult someon old enough to be their great grand father all because of social media. Meanwhile, they cannot talk to their parents like that at home. If at all there is going to be any bill, it is because of insultive Nigerians. No wonder Buhari called them unruly

Unknown said...

Lmao!
Some people tho...

Anonymous said...

Pls Nigerians lets learn to behave like civilised people. You can hold an intelligent conversation without insults. Lets stop all the insults on social media. I still like social media and i dont want any bill passed against it biko.

Anonymous said...

Some nigerians still thinking backward in this new age....make we dakkada and make nigeria better with good motives no bad bills.

Unknown said...

If it becomes a law then dey shud endeavour to expand our prisons too. Cos plenty people will go to jail.

Davido's driver said...

Lets hope so

Unknown said...

The insults were not really necessary.....he only said his mind

Anonymous said...

Let's recall these senators....sign a petition...the electoral law states that with a certain number of signatures a senator stands recalled...once we recall about two the others will sit up

stupid senator cant even write good English...na who elect this people sef. they should be pushing bills on recall for poor performance and conduct rather than shielding themselves from criticism

Sublime said...

I Love You Already, what should be done is recalling our fat representatives....sincerely,i still don't get why dey all tweeting now..saying the bill wouldn't be made law....i don't understand, where they just saying YAY without understanding what was being said...how did the bill pass through 1st and 2nd reading??really,y'all stop joking with me.....am tired of listening to crap

gentle said...

So? Stay off social media then. Is the solution taking people's right and freedom to talk freely at all?

gentle said...

Is she not the masses? I pity all of you who want to take a neutral ground. You mustn't be insultive before you sound provocative. If this bill is passed, even if you sound like the most docile animal on earth, once someone in power feels like you are antagonising him/her with you words, you can go straight to court or jail. It's much more shady than it looks.
Abi some1 can file libel suits for defamatory statements, so what's their business with social media at all? Goes a long way to show you what they are really after.

gentle said...

Are nigerians more insultive than Americans? Why doesnt obama pass such bill then? You guys are blind. Can't you see the power of social media. So powerful that these senators are even denying the bill i'm infinity percent sure they talked about. Is it because you talk to them like you parents at home, that they are denying it. I'm not supporting insults at all...but somtimes these senators need to be attacked with the things they do. Okay, when some northern senators kicked against the birth control bill, how exactly will you send a tweet to them without sounding annoyed? I definitely dnt sound annoyed when talking to my parents because they dnt do the kind of shit thing these senators do.

@FUTURE LEADER.X I am disappointed in your poor judgement comment. The fact that this is democracy and there is freedom of speech does not give you the right to insult people especially your seniors. You can hold a decent conversation and make your points clear without insulting anybody. Go and insult your father or your grandfather at home and tell them it is democracy and see if you wont receive hot slap. You call yourself a future leader and your way of reasoning is apaulling.

gentle said...

Anon..3.53...you are the stupid one. Are you a senator? Dnt go and face your work. Pitiful things.

Anonymous said...

Nigerians are getting it all wrong. Senate is not saying they want to barn social media or stop it. What they are trying to do it pass a bill against all those that tell lies against the government, persons or organisation and also those that insult people to the extent of making the public hate the person which is called defamation of character. So all u Nigerians that like insulting people on social media be warned. The fact that there is democracy and freedom of speech doesnt mean u should use abuse it and use your big mouth recklessly by insulting people and telling lies. If you are not sure of a particular story and u dont have evidence, dont talk about it. A word is enough for the wise.

Anonymous said...

I know that a lot of celebrities will be happy about this bill because people just go to their instagram page anyhow and insult them and tell lies about them.

Anonymous said...

@ PRESIDENT's DAUGHTER I agree with you. They are not well brought up. They are the reason why they want to pass a bill on social media. All some Nigerians know how to do is insult but to pass exam in school, they cannot. Bunch of touts!

Anonymous said...

@donald obi you are just a nuisance. Pls stop the insults before u aggravate them the more to pass the bill. Use your brain!

Anonymous said...

That person that insulted the senator lacks home training and he is obviously a tout going by his choice of words. The fact that there is freedom of speech and democracy doesnt give you the right to insult people. The person should go home and insult his parents and call it democracy if he wont receive hot slap. Useless touts without proper upbringing everywhere. Smtcheew

Anonymous said...

The person's rudeness to the senator is totally uncalled for. It is so so wrong. He is a mannerless tout. I am not sure he has parents.

Anonymous said...

Choi. The senator just Jegalised the boy. That is how you treat insultive touts. It reminds me of how Jega treated that Irubebe man that wanted to obstruct the announcement of presidential election results.

Anonymous said...

@gentle Nobody says u should not talk freely but must you insult? You can hold an intelligent conversation without insults. Go home and insult your parents and tell them it is democracy and see what will happen

Anonymous said...

@gentle i understand you perfectly well. But even if u are annoyed, you can still pass your message across without insults and the person reading it will know that u are annoyed but you did not insult anybody. Pls lets stop the insults. I still like social media and i dont want it shut down.

Why insultng Juliet. The harmattan is really telling on your brain. Lol.

I JUZ CANT HELP IT, I DEFINITLY HAVE TO COMMENT, AS MUCH AS I DONT CONDONE INSULT, I DONT THINK ITS OF ANY RELEVANT TO US (MASSES)IF THAT BILL IS PASSED INTO LAW. FOR CHRIST SAKE IF YOU FEEL U HAVE BEEN INSULTED OR UR CHARACTER DAMAGED U CAN GO TO COURT. NOT TRYING TO GAG US. THESE SO CALLED SENATORS USED THE SOCIAL MEDIA TO PROPELL THEIR PROPAGANDA DURING ELECTION.WHY ARE WE SUPRISE THE BILL PASSED THE 1ST AND 2ND HEARING. WE HAVE SENATORS WHO HAVE BE BITTEN BY TESTESFLY

PERCY

stop spreading falsehood here about the re-calling of senators, only the constituents of a senatorial district can recall a senator.

Apt observation, like it. Even more, why are some of these Naija men & women in leadership positions so thin-skinned about "purported insults"? Why leave the substance of the matter to pursue shadows, as it were? Everything considered, one can conclude it is many of these leaders who actually insult, harm and destroy the sensibilities of Naijas youths and masses through their actions/inactions, such as, brazen corruption and enrichment from public coffers for their personal luxury. Meanwhile, they keep peeing on the legs of the poor youths & masses while telling them it's raining outside. What insult could be greater than that? Now, social media being one of the outlets for venting and putting the fat cats on notice wants to be clamped down by the same fat cats club. Why? Bcos they fear the truth. Well, its a new dawn and it aint business as usual.....things MUST change for the better for Nigeria and Naijas. #goodcausetospeakup

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:04 are you saying there was no law to sue for defamation of character before this bill came up?
One thing about Nigerians is that they bark but never bite. If Senate goes ahead to pass this bill, they will not do anything. GEJ was an advocate for free speech which is why every Tom, dick and Harry felt free to insult him, including APC. Now they want to gage Nigerians so they don't demand they fulfill their promises. When you don't ask a politician HOW he plans to achieve or execute his campaign promises and analyze his response to ensure its feasible before voting for him, why won't they continue to make empty promises? Nigerians deserve the leaders they get.

Yes, Donald their writing/communications skills is nothing to write home about. You'd think with all their loot they would pay for world-class publicists or PR to represent them on social media. It even stands to reason, many of them did not understand the bill not to mention its wider implications. For one, a poor reflection on the educational mills that keep churning out these half-baked graduates who suddenly, by hook/crook find themselves in the corridors of power. Now, social media is exposing them and comparing their performances on development indices to those of saner societies.....of course, the fat cats don't like it. However, the people have the final say. QED@atm

@Anonymous 7:44 PM this has nothing to do with PDP or APC. If the bill is passed, it also covers PDP leaders. Remember that we still have PDP senators and governors. The bill will also protect them not just APC. If PDP wins in future and becomes president, the bill will still protect them. So dont bring party sentiments into this. Nobody says u should not ask the govt about the promises they made but ask them decently and in a civillised manner without insults or speading fake rumours that lack evidence.
