Senate reduces UTME registration fee to N2,500, to extend validity period to 3yrs

The Senate today passed a resolution reducing the registration fee of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to N2,500 from N5,650 that was paid by prospective university students this year. At the plenary session today, the senators recommended the extension of the validity period of the UTME to three academic year.

The resolution was taken following the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund on the inquiry into the new admission policy of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). They also resolved to amend the Act establishing JAMB to reflect the extension of the validity period which is at the moment a year.

Thank God
I am so happy 4 this. Mind you , I am currently doing my PhD outside Nigeria, but this doesn't affect me directly. But it affects and has affected people around me. People have spent so much and stressed so much 4 this exam every year. If they fail the JAMB, they have to sit again for it next year. If they pass next year but fail to get into the University, they have to sit again the following year and so on
Its crazy. These are the kind of change we want. Not spending our govt fund on jets and touring the world . Help the masses.

The universities will still collect the remaining money from candidates. Senators also need to look at the workability of the validity period with the universities. This is also very important.

The Senate should consider the administrative cost involved in the examination process before embarking in the reduction process. There is no need eroding government fund for matriculation examination. Also this idea of carrying result for three years, what of the subsequent pupils in the latter years? Who has higher priority in the admission year.

Though it is nice but,the university will now be an emperor. They will still be doing qualifying exam every year and be collecting money from students. What I feel senate should do is to reduce the a UTME fee which they have done and help the federal government to promulgate law that will establish more universities, fortified the existing ones and equate the monotecnics so that more students can have admission. Am not in support of 3years validity.

Unknown said...

Nicest tin dey ve done...especially the life span extension. 👍

Unknown said...

Whao that is so nice from the senate three years validity is good. Also checkout www.j360ent.com for the outcome of utme meeting with Nigeria senate. http://www.j360ent.com/2016/03/just-in-senate-reduce

This is good bu that is not what is needed now. Jamb needs to be scrapped or forced to return to its pencil and paper test. Jamb has succeeded successfuly in bringing tears to a lot of candidates. A lot of people invested a lot of thousands and time in preparing for this Utme but Jamb just gave them any score. It is so bad that Jamb had to add 40marks for some candidates... Please this really needs to be taken serious. A young girl almost committed suicide because of this a couple of dats back at oshodi.. This really needs to be addressed. I was surprised Linda didnt even have ths post. Please Spread the word
