INEC to meet tomorrow to decide whether or not to shift the elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will meet with chairmen and secretaries of all registered political parties, and Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs tomorrow Saturday 7th, to decide whether to go ahead with the general elections billed for February 14 and 28.

A statement released by Mr Kayode Idowu, the spokesperson of INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, states that after the meeting, “the Commission will address a press conference to brief the nation on its decision with regard to whether or not the general elections will hold as currently scheduled”. Full statement after the cut...

On Thursday, February 5, 2015, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, was invited to brief the National Council of States (NCS) on the preparedness of INEC to conduct the 2015 general elections. He made a presentation titled “Preparations for the 2015 General Elections: Progress Report.’ The National Security Adviser (NSA) and Armed Services Chiefs also briefed the Council on the current security situation.

As a follow-up to that meeting, the Commission has scheduled a consultative meeting with chairmen and secretaries of all registered political parties, as well as a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Saturday, February 7, 2015.

Thereafter, the Commission will address a press conference to brief the nation on its decision with regard to whether or not the general elections will hold as currently scheduled.

And what do they hope to achieve if indeed they do decide to shift it?( though it would be easier for honey boo boo's mother to become a ballet dancer than for them to shift election date). They would only prolong the inevitable.

If they must postpone these elections, then pres. Jonathan should first hand over to an interim government then we will all agree that that's a fairer way of doing things. If oga Jona refuses to hand over to an interim government, then the elections must hold on the 14th of February as earlier scheduled. What does this federal government take Nigerians for? Fools?

I wouldn't b surprise if they postpone d elections. Wit all indications it leading to signs dat dis may happen.

I prefer they do dis elections once and for all.

Unknown said...

Linda recall that i protested against your decision to ignore Mimiko's version and relay only Okorocha's version of the out come of Council of States meeting. With what INEC has said here, i hope you can see the folly of your action. APC is a party of propaganda and misinformation mongers, please don't take their words for it.

A situation where over 12m voters have collected their PVC in North West representing about 85%. Down east and south south, less than 60% distributed due to poor logistics. Jega is compromised, He should go

Unknown said...

Mark my words "Dis elections wil b postpone tomorrow"...dis my personal view I may b wrong or right.

D writing on d wall is so obvious. INEC didn't really plan well concerning d PVC. So it wouldn't b news to me if they postpone d elections.

It all 4d best for dis wil change so many tins.

If the election is postponed to march, what name do we call feBUHARI?

Anonymous said...

Council meeting said No, INEC said they were up to the task. Now, they want to return to that already concluded story. Why? Ulterior motives? Rubbish!

Anonymous said...

NA OUR MONEY AND TIME DEM WAN WASTE, ABI? IT IS EITHER DEM GO SHIFT AM TO THE PERIOD WHEN JEGA TERMINAL LEAVE TAKE START OR TO GIVE DEM TIME TO DO BUHARI TIHS~ FOR COURT. DAT EKITI RECORDING DRAMA NOR REACH US, WE NEED MORE, ABI?

Anonymous said...

Our money dey go for logistics of Council of States meeting, then them go waste am further by rendering the outcome useless. Who pay for transportation, small packages for coming, accommodation , refreshment, etc?, nor be we? In these hard times when oil prices are freely falling? Postpone not the elections, Jega. We know we are pawns in this game of politics, but please, y'all should not call us fools to our faces ; it makes one hate Jonathan.

Anonymous said...

MarchBUHARI out of nigeria. Just a suggestion, u asked.

Anonymous said...

plz they should shift it. I never like dis lovers day idea from day one. INEC want my boo to escape buying me this range rover SUV he promised on valentine day.

Anonymous said...

APC supporters must know something PDP supporters don't know cos it's as if APC all has der pvc while PDP are still waiting on ders. Is it really true dat jega has been sharing to Northern States were Buhari has strong hold?

Anonymous said...

Do you have your pvc? If you do then what of those who are still waiting for theirs? Ain't they nigerians? Don't they have the same right as you? We say we are practicing democracy but we don't want to emulate the countries in d west dat have been practicing it before ibb chased Buhari away for us and we joined them? Do you think Americans will support the election to go on if just 50% of the population can vote cos d other half are still waiting for der pvc? REASON!

Anonymous said...

Eheee! Abiala ha! Ndi obi oku! I heard you guys have been threatening jega and his family if he wer to announce Jona as d winner upon the fact dat he's already working for Buhari to win. The British helped u guys d last time during war but blive me when I tell u dat dey r seriously regretting it now! May God put confusion in your midst! See how your Isis brothers burnt a fellow Muslim in a manner that is even against una Quran! The world is slowly but surely getting tired of you lot! D clock is ticking, tick tick...
