Former ASUU president Festus Iyayi killed in fatal crash today

Former President of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Dr. Festus Iyayi, was killed this afternoon in a fatal auto accident in Lokoja, on his way to Kano state for a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU where the union is expected to call off its four month old strike.

It's being reported that the convoy of the Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Idris Wada, rammed into the vehicle conveying Professor Iyayi and some members of the union to Kano. The university don who is also a popular writer, died on the scene while two other occupants of the vehicle were injured.

I understand that Uniben chapter of ASUU voted for the strike to continue, hence Prof.Iyayi was heading to Kano to push for continuation till God knows when!Is it not a very wicked, insensitive and satanic stance? Considering the recent further concessions GEJ made to them after over 15hours of personally discussing with ASUU,was it realistic for Prof and his colleagues to take such a stand?God knows everything and determines everything.Again the issue of reckless driving by convoys of political office holders has got to a stage that a global strike should be called by NLC et al to draw attention to this!
