TF? PHEDC distributes electricity with metal pole... (photos)

A LIB reader just sent this in. This is the metal pole distributed by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company at 25 Chamley Street in Calabar. Can they use metal for electricity, really?

Are they dumb enough not to know metal is a great conductor of electricity?
I wish them well in that zone..

Unknown said...

They should be sued to court

Buki said...

It can be used depending on the type of metal.

Unknown said...

Is this in anyway safe? Someone please educate us!

Nah wah for ds pple oo

It can be used depending on the type of metal,eg aluminium poorly conducts electricity

No idea to your question

Nothing wrong if there is good insulation between the wires and the pole.

Wires on NEPA national grid (133kva lines) run on steel pylons.

Unknown said...

Na wa o! Hope it not electrocutes person o

This is seriously dangerous

Unknown said...

Linda, it can be used because not all metals that are good conduct of electricity.

Metal poles have been used in electricity distribution for ages, including high tension poles. What do you think "Christmas tree" poles are made of? As long as there is insulation they are absolutely safe!

This is a potential hazard waiting to explode. Authorities where are you people? The masses should be aware of the danger and stay away from it until change is made by substitution.

Porbeni DOYE A.
It's No big deal, Steel structures have been reliably used to support transmission lines of even higher voltages ... say 132kv in Nigeria even before the invention of sliced bread, without recording alarming Incidents. They are even more reliable than the frequently used wooden poles and have far more advantages.

STEEL POLES HAVE A LOT OF ADVANTAGES OVER WOODEN POLE EVEN IF IT IS NOT FREQUENTLY USED FOR LOWER VOLTAGES DISTRIBUTION.... REMEMBER THAT OUR 132KV LINES ARE SUPPORTED BY STEEL POLES AND WE HAVE LESSER OCCURENCE OF INCIDENTS ON THESE LINES.
