While delivering his judgement, the judge ordered EFCC officials to seize the former governor's passport and other travel documents and deposit it at the office of the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court until his bail conditions are met. Justice Adeniyi however did not state where the accused will be remanded.
Ohakim is standing trial for a three count charge of fraud which includes buying a property in Asokoro, Abuja for $2.29m and concealing the ownership of the property. He allegedly connived with Tweenex Consociates H.D. Ltd. to portray him as a tenant in the property.
One of the three count charges against him read,
“That you, Ikedi Ohakim, on or about January 26, 2013 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court, while under arrest for an offence under the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Establishment Act, 2004 knowingly failed to make a full disclosure of your assets by not declaring your ownership of the property known and described as Plot No. 1098 Cadastral Zone A04, Asokoro District- it is also known as No.60, Kwame Nkurumah Street, Asokoro, Abuja and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27(3)(c) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Establishment Act, 2004 and punishable under the same section.”.

CHAIIII! N270m bail?!!!! DIA RIS GOD OOO!!!!!!! Chai! Chai! Chai!
This is the best thing that one can think of in this govt. Your bail should be equivalent of your fraud amount.
It's a very good development.

Word of advice to all those who admire & worship the ground 'rich people' walk on! Not all of them made their money the legal way! You can go ahead and embezzle or smuggle drugs but you should be warned, ONE DAY YOU WILL GET CAUGHT AND YOU WILL PAY THE PRICE! I'm so happy with the judge's decision. I know Adanna, we both live in Dublin and she is a lovely young lady. It's quite sad that he family is going through this just after her sister's wedding but I'm happy justice is being SERVED!
Owk nice
Lib freak
Baba is sure gonna get our money back from these leprous politicians. This is just the beginning. Akpabio,Theodore Orji(worst ex Gov) etc...be warming up for your jail sentences
Chai!. This doesn't sound right. How can the bail money be comenserate to the amount he is being accused of stealing. If Buhari's govt. really wants to show Nigerians they are working Tinubu, Amaechi, Nyako should also face the same judgement.
Tooth for Tooth
There's no way this man stole ONLY 270m
Dats wicked judgment. Y not simply ask him to pay wat he stole. Lol
I hope that this matter is investigated thoroughly and that the right thing is done - there is no hiding place!!!!!

"Igbaju for igabju"...lol
I'm in love with this judgement. We r gradually getting there. More of this n jail-terms for looters plz
Yes so happy they should collect every single penny....supid Criminal....lmos are languishing in poverty...I wonder how his daughters will be feeling now....children of a criminal
Ofcos his home or a 5star hotel should be where he should be remanded. Though for someone like ohakim he can settle his bail wit his ATM there and then. My conclusion, if he committed a crime,he should go to jail.
They should just tell him to pay for what he stole.
Our judicial system don dey pick up o! Era of chop & shit. I can't shit what another person eat. Linda take note!

Only 270million? THAT IS SO NOT POSSIBLE. THATS THE AMOUNT THEIR GIRLFRIENDS GET. EVEN CHAIRMEN AND COMMISSIONERS STEAL MORE THAN THAT. GOVERNOR LEVELS THIEVRY IS LIKE 20MILLION DOLLARS AND ABOVE. 2O BILLION OR MORE. HONESTLY, EFCC, ARREST ALL EX GOVERNORS AND PROBE THEM. ALL OF THEM.
Adanna and Co una papa be ole buruku chai!

NDI OSHII. ANA EKOGA, EBURU GBAGO, EBURU GBADAA. GOD WILL JUDGE ALL YOU GOVERNORS WHO DO NOT WANT THE PROGRESS OF ND'IGBO.
I can only smell a rat, this is definitely the handiwork of APC, Pa Buhari and Muhammadu Rochas Okorocha, it is a calculated attempt to cripple the elite Igbos, first it was Ekweremadu, deputy senate president wanted by the police. Then, Nnamani, fmr governor of Enugu, now it's Okahim. All anti Igbos, you can never bring us down. Baba go slow, do your work and leave us alone,

Nigerian youths! Hmm! So ignorant! When you're giving a bail of a certain amount, it doesn't translate you depositing that money with the court.
Serves him right
Pay what you owe Mr Ohakim
Well said
They are prepared to deal with the man. If not the bail for be as usual and he will pay and still win the case.
Nigeria and the crooked way they administer justice. Hhhmmm...I don't support corruption but all I see the EFCC do is selective judgement. If Ikedi is guilty he should face the music but what about ALL the other politicians that are criminals. EFCC focus on at least one BIG fish and we will know that una no dey fear ANYBODY. NONSENSE group of people.
Good one
I support ds judgement...cool and better
wow, what happens if this man goes to jail. anyway still good judgment compare to what we had in the past.
Gbamest!
Bail urself with what u stole
PARENTAL ADVISORY
***adult content***
And d street boy will serve 24 years in jail for defrauding 4 million...Rubbish
It simply means that his surety will forfeit the bail sum if Ohakim jumps bail.
Justice Ademola of life!!!!!

There is a God. The tide is turning. THank God. Yes. Perfect judgment. In court for N270 million, your bail is the same amount. You run, isorait.
I pray this continue in Nigeria....amin
This is what I call judgement. I pray all other judges would practice same... This is justice for the common people of Imo state
I await when the above mentioned governors will be probed too...abi EFCC is saying that they are saints?......hmmmmmmm
Until I see former APC government officials being probed or investigated, this whole anti corruption pursuits will remain a sham 2me... I laf in efik
Obodo anyi siri ike..
I knew all those empty mansions in asokoro must surely belong to someone. ....thnk God efcc is working now even though they still hv a long way to go cos its not easy convicting these criminals in our country.

Only a Yoruba judge can give such a sensible sentence.

Lyk seriously!!!!! Kudos 2 Efcc.
Efcc vs Ohakim: Bail of N270 million.
.."What You Should Know as Ohakim walks home free".
I have continued to read on social media how Ohakim paid 270 million for bail granted by Abuja federal high court.
Social media should not be for uninformed lots. Someone even expressed outrage that Ohakim could easily cough out that much.
Be informed now. The bail term does not require Ohakim to pay anything to get the bail; so Ohakim didn't pay anything to get bail. Bail is, in ordinary language, a promise that if the accused fails to come to court in the course of the trial (I.e., if he jumps bail), the court would now move to demand for the amount so stipulated from the person that pledged the amount.
Another thing, the bail bond is mostly in the form of real estate or other fixed assets. What this means is that all Ohakim is required to do is provide evidence of owning a real estate worth not less than that amount.
Again, until the accused absconds, no court will go on to appropriate the property.

God go punish him and his family. Unable to pay civil servants and teachers but buying himself a mansion!!

Gbam! That's How to grant bail. Return everything you stole and please let all our judges learn to judge exactly, that is return what you stole or be jailed for life.

this is a big lesson, the proud must be humbled, this man is about to be stripped of almost all he worked for.and go back to almost square 1,i hope this also humbles his children who have been feeling too big even to their friends who were there for them from the scratch
