Codeine is even useless as a cough medicine and should be banned. I took it once, 2 years ago to heal my cough and instead of curing the cough, it just kept making me high. It would put you in one kind of "cloud 9 state" where all u want to do is to be very happy and to sleep. And then its very addictive. From taking 2 teaspoonfulls which I should have, i started taking it in gulps and within a day i had gulped the whole bottle and the cough didnt even go. It should really be banned

People can overdose on codeine and there have been deaths recorded and near deaths. Example of a near death was Lil' Wayne; while that of a death case has been Pimp C (a black rapper in America). That is what's in vogue in some parts of America.

Codeine high has been around for ages and its not just young people. A lot of older hollywood stars have been known to use it - Matthew Perry (Chandler from friends) is one. It's getting common among the younger crowd as its cheap and prescription free.

Every body in HNAUB gets high on codeine (minus me) I noticed it first when I had a flu and my syrup would miraculously disappear, and another time she described a bottle of benilyn as "her soul provider" although she insists she isn't addicted but I just shake my head when I watch her down a bottle my other friend look under her bed and all u see is empty codeine bottle it's really sickening and d bad thing about it is that when u r used to it u need a higher does to get d desired result, the more u do it the more of it u need until one day u will sleep and not wake up. I know a alot of people who take codeine to get high, infact, I used to take it too. But, you know, its cool, it harm the body and eventually, taking it excessively kills. Pimp-c died of overdose on codeine. Its the American music culture that spread its usage all over. Artist take it and people wanna be like their idols.

Some people take over the counter cough medicines for recreational purposes. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is the drug in cough syrups that makes you trip. None of the other ingredients will get you high, all though they will kill you if you drink enough. If you insist on using DXM then just buy plain DXM instead of killing yourself with all those other ingredients.all in all it's not worth risking your life over. i don't know what has taken over the youths of these days, we have more drug addicts now than ever...

Where have u been Linda.. i've known this for as long as I can remember. It is a religious thing though. Muslims are not allowed to drink alcohol and since they want to get high. They drink codeine.
I am public health student Msc and I have been writing on substance abuse from my dissertation days....these things are not new....you are just seeing codeine..that just the beginning.People from my first research abuse things like paints,methylated spirits,camphor,alabukun for many insecure reasons and the details are alarming....substance abuse has become a menance in the society and it isn't just about the big names you know like cocaine and the likes...little things like codeine and the likes have silently crept in and is killing these young people.It is unfortunate that our Government don't want to do anything about it as other countries are taking deliberate efforts to reduce and stop this menance.Nigeria's attmpt at anything substance abuse since the early 90's has been the inauguration of NDLEA that only catch drug peddlers across the borders..what happens to our citizens?the young generation and future leaders?i am very passionate about substance misuse and would fight about it anywhere.Mayb LIB's need to go yaba left drug ward to see what I am talking about...it is pathetic...God help my country oo..!
