Ghosn made this revelation while speaking at an interactive session with President Jonathan at the ongoing World Economic Forum holding at Davos, Switzerland.
He said the cars would be produced at the Old Volkswagen assembly plant situated in Lagos and that a total of two to three million cars is expected to be produced from the plant annually.
"We are interested in producing popular cars, totally adapted to the needs of Nigerians" Gbosn said while speaking with President Jonathan.He said one of the goals of producing in Nigeria is to help reduce unemployment rate in the country.

Babes, Pegeot, Volks and Mercedes all had plants in Nigeria (Volks Lagos, PAN Kaduna and Anamco Enu). The cars they made are still being driven in Nigeria and beyond, 20 to 30 years after. Somethings could be bad in Nigeria but certainly not EVERYTHING.
Currently also, Innoson is making cars at IVM plant Nnewi and their cars are comparable to its counterparts from Korea (the Kias and Hyundais). They even compete with some other cars like the Scoda. It takes the WILL to make things right in Nigeria.

This is my first comment on this blog after being in lurking mode for several years. For those who think the cars made in Nigeria will be sub standard,. I would like to pose a question? Do you get foreigners to fix your cars currently when they break down? Nigerians as a people are very resource full and very knowledgeable. Some cars that still run in Nigeria should have been relegated to the scrap heap decades ago and yet Nigerian mechanics are able to fix them and get them to still run. This is a commendable development if it is true. Perhaps Nigeria will get back some of her lost glory in the manufacturing secror. For those of you who are too young to remember, Nigeria used to have several car brands made ( assembled in Nigeria) . Those cars were Peugeot, and Volkswagon cars.

I have been a frequent "lurking" visitor to this blog for many years but never really made a comment, and would like to come out of lurk mode to point out that Nigeria used to have at least two car assembly plants in the eighties. They were Peugeot and Volkswagen. If this announcement is true, then it is a welcome one as it signifies Nigeria may be on her way to regaining some of her lost glory. For those who think the cars would be unsafe, do you have your current cars serviced by foreign mechanics? Nigeria has some of the most ingenious and mechanically savvy people of any place. Some cars that are still on the road would have been relegated to the scrap yard in most countries. Where in the world except maybe Cuba do people drive cars that are thirty forty years old and still able to patch them up. Even the so called village mechanic knows a thing or two about cars. Do not discount a made in Nigeria car!!!
