Trust me I can pretty much relate to every thing dude said. Organised religion is deceptive,look at the way Christians castigate Muslims,calling them fanatics and murderers.If only those Christians knew what Crusaders did to non-Christians in the past;they did even worse than what Muslim fanatics are doing today. Muslims call non-Muslims Kafirs forgetting that God(if truly there's one)does not have a religion. We have been blinded by the teachings of religions and our minds conformed to doctrines that set non-adherents lower than us. He has a point. African Traditional religion, in most cases, restricts you from expressing your wills and desires, no matter how innocent they are. On the other hand, the "foreign" religion grants you this freedom, but the adherents of this religion behave waywardly in most cases. So it's a case of "Bad god watching over good people" and "Good God watching over bad people". Both cases are devoid of complete trust, which is actually a virtue that should associate any religion. Then why "subject" yourself to one? Well, that's his own, he has a point. As for me and my house, we will serve THE SUPREME BEING.
Atheism in itself is even slowly turning into some radical movement, a religion of bashers of other religions, Agnosticism is the way forward. Seun, If you believe in Traditional religion, You aint an atheist. The Concept of a Higher Power has always been mans way of explaining things that appear beyond understanding. That is why in all the names of this power (God) it is usually explanatory. Like Chineke, Jehovah, Osanobua etc. The only difference in religions is the way of getting to this Being. Christianity believes that Jesus is the Only Way! Traditionalists believe in whatever intermediaries as represented by the carvings. Even the Greeks believed in a community of Gods with Zeus being the Father of Gods. You need to educate yourself before making senseless comments. Being Atheist is not the same thing as not being a Christian.
Many religious people believe that we have to be religious to be moral. However, a child rapist and murderer can confess their sins on death row and become a follower and be allowed into heaven to live forever in bliss, where as I could lead a decent life as a good person and a sceptic of religion and be given the worst punishment possible - burning (the worst pain) for ever (for the longest time). Not believing in god does not make people want to go out and commit crime. those who do not commit crime and horrendous acts because theyre afraid of the punishment from god are sickos. society has rules and laws and retribution that does not require religious input.
