Bloodbath in Lagos: Soldiers kill 10 police men in Badagry

Blood flowed freely Tuesday in Badagry, Lagos after a group of heavily armed soldiers from the 242 Recce Battalion, Iberepo  Badagry took over strategic locations in the ancient town maiming and killing any police man on sight in an apparent reprisal of the killing Monday, of one of their colleagues.

The Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Saliu Samson, his Divisional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DPS) Samuel who were out in the ensuing fracas to appeal for calm were shot dead.

Two police patrol vehicles belonging to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were set ablaze while their occupants were chased and shot dead.  As at 2.30 pm yesterday, corpses of police officers littered the Iberepo roundabout while the rampaging soldiers were spotted with every imaginable dangerous weapons scouting for police men.

Sources said some police men and their families who lived in the Iberepo barracks were chased out and seriously wounded.

According to sources, a soldier in mufti who was escorting goods from the Nigeria\Seme border was accosted by a police officer attached to RRS on Monday and demanded to search the vehicle.

It was learnt that the late unidentified soldier had challenged the policeman and threatened to disarm him if he does not allow the vehicle free way;  prompting the trigger happy policeman to fire at him at close range.

The soldier reportedly slumped and died on the spot. Vanguard was told that the news of the killing of the soldier soon filtered into the Iberepo barracks and some soldiers mobilized as early as 9,00am yesterday and started attacking any policeman on sight contrary to a non violence order given to them by the commander of the barracks, Colonel Nabasa.

Contacted, the Force public relation officer, DCP Olusola Amore said he was yet to get details of the clash saying, “Let me talk to the CP Lagos then I will be in a better position to react to the matter. But his counterpart in the army, Lieutenant Colonel Kayode Ogunsanya of the 81 Division said the situation had been brought under control stressing that it will be thoroughly investigated.

How can one define the problems plaguing Nigeria? this is not inter tribal war between modakeke and ife or itsekiri and ijaw neither is it religious conflict between christians and muslims. this is simply barbaric and inhuman.

This is ridiculous to say the least. Whilst being an army does not exclude him from being searched I do not see a reason for being shot unless there was a need for it. However, police are meant to shoot to disable the perpetrator from causing more harm and only kill in exceptional circumstances which I am assuming was not. As for the tit-for-tat attitude of the soldiers, then they truly do not deserve to be in the uniforms they wear. Their roles are to protect and serve their nations and not turn on them for one persons mis-judgment.

A number of issues are highlighted here and whilst they need to be punished for their heinous crimes, all forces (Police, Army, Navy, Air-force) need to be re-trained and engage in continuous training not just for promotion but for a better united force for the betterment of the country.

Trouble dey sleep, Yanga go wake am. The Police has no respect for human lives and kill people at any opportunity. Army no be civilians. They have proved to them that they also have weapons of mass destruction. Thank God that the situation has been brought under control.

While i sympathize with the policemen who lost their lives and condemn the jungle justice practiced by the soldiers, I cannot help but say POLICE ASKED FOR IT.

Maybe now police officers will realize dem no get 10 heads. They are not God.

I have no pity for the Nigerian Police and no apologies. I was a victim in 2008 when I came to NG. I was only lucky to come out alive, even their DPO was part of the plot. Now they have their match... Superior sef.Chineke meeeee Nigeria Police na Bad omen

this is really sad..some may say the police deserve it but i dont think thats the answer despite the fact that some of them are trigger happy. I mean in which country does the army fight against the police biko nu. these are people meant to protect us for God's sake showing this barbaric act. Both the police and the army guy were both wrong in this case. Most of the policemen are not well trained that is why when they are supposed to shoot to disarm they shoot to kill and the army guy especially as he was dressed in civilian clothes should have obeyed the order for the search instead of proving strong..I mean why not let the police do their job?haba

OMG! Y do dey even give police Riffle, 1.police dey are not train. 2. Dey dont ave wrkin orietation. 3. Dey mount roadblock to extort money instead of carryin out proper stop and search on vehicles. Pls police should b properly trained. TnkGod evrytin is under control

The term "FORCE" should be eliminated from the police.they should only be regarded as "THE NIGERIA POLICE".why should an ordinary police officer attack a soldier? na mate?fck "em police.
