A 28-year-old Kenyan lesbian seeking asylum in Sweden has had her application rejected simply because the country's migration board does not believe her sexual orientation.
Nairobi Wire reports that Lucy Murugi fled from Kenya two years ago after her family turned their backs on her. But later got help through a cousin who helped get a visa and accommodation in Stockholm, Sweden.
Speaking to Swedish journalists, Lucy said that she applied for asylum but was rejected by the Swedish Migration Board 14 months later because she failed the interviews that form the basis for the credibility of the assessment.
According to her, the Migration Board’s questions were almost incomprehensible to her: 'I did not understand anything. No one told me what to expect. What I would do or say, or at least give me some guidelines,' she said.
Asked what it feels like not to be believed, she said: “It feels horrible and disappointing. It breaks down one. You realize that you made a mistake somewhere and when you try to fix it so you will rarely get a second chance.”
Lucy now fears she might be deported back to Kenya where homosexuality is criminalized and punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
She further alleges her name has been released as a lesbian in the infamous Ugandan Tabloid Red Pepper among 200 African homosexuals.

Good for her
Hahahaha go and face your music.
silly people silly lifestyle
I'm as confused as she is cos I still don't get the point of this. Did she fail the immigration test because she's homosexual or because she was ill-prepared for it? Pardon my clumsiness please, if you may, I'd thought liberal Sweden a safe haven for homosexuals. So the more sympathetic to my lesbian lady they should have been ordinarily. So why not? Could this be more of racism than anything else?
Ola don't b confused d white folks know africans would do or say anything just to get papers and remain.they have investigated dis lady and did their research she no b gay.dey proly might have a gay on d board and d gay will spot her as fake it takes a gay to know a gay
The questions could have been tricky and difficult for her to understand.
I've never seen samples of the questions that LGBTQ people get asked for asylum, but if you've never schooled in the West, you can be easily confused. The questions may not have straight answers like "yes" or "no".
Unlike America where resources would've been made available, I guess Sweden wants asylum seekers to do their due diligence.

This is unfair - She should not be deported
The best to determine her sexual orientation is to watch her make out with a lady (not a silly interview)
I feel for you girl x x x
Bolaji
She like others are not gay. She could have been asked what she feels or what she does and didn't answer. Many try to say they are gay to get asylum. Next thing she'll be pregnant
Go and face your people back home.
