Photos of the parents of the boy whose fall into the
gorilla exhibit moat in Cincinnati Zoo resulted in the death of a
17-year-old silverback gorilla, Harambe, have been revealed. Pictured is
his mother Michelle Gregg, who has four children, and ex convict father
Deonne Dickerson.
Michelle Gregg, the mother of the boy, posted a message on
Facebook on the day the incident happened, saying:
The family also released a statement after the boy was discharged to go home from the hospital. It read:'I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers today. What started off as a wonderful day turned into a scary one. For those of you that have seen the news or been on social media that was my son that fell in the gorilla exhibit at the zoo. God protected my child until the authorities were able to get to him. My son is safe and was able to walk away with a concussion and a few scrapes... no broken bones or internal injuries. As a society we are quick to judge how a parent could take their eyes off of their child and if anyone knows me I keep a tight watch on my kids. Accidents happen but I am thankful that the right people were in the right place today. Thank you to everyone that helped me and my son today and most importantly God for being the aawesome God that He is.'
'We are so thankful to the Lord that our child is safe. He is home and doing just fine. We extend our heartfelt thanks for the quick action by the Cincinnati Zoo staff. We know that this was a very difficult decision for them, and that they are grieving the loss of their gorilla. We hope that you will respect our privacy at this time.'

Well accidents happen. It was quite unfortunate the Gorilla had to pay the ultimate price for a mistake made by humans. It is well. But they would have shot him a sedative instead of real bullet.

They were probably happy to see the boy fall into the enclosure. Maybe they wanted insurance compensation.
Safety?i just watched the footage!that gorrilla would have killed the boy!no doubt he will be truamatized for life.they didn't shoot him fast enough.my Lord!i doubt if anyone who has kids can watch even half of that video.i just hugged my daughter now and I told her,forgive me my sweet,but ur mummy will never take u to the zoo!

What was the parent(s) doing that the child was not with them in the first place? How can a child walk away from you to the extent that he end up in a gorilla's den? They need to be question by the authority.

thank God your child survived. True we all make mistakes, but an innocent gorilla had to pay with his life for silly mistake. So gutted. I think you should give back to the gorilla world, maybe donate towards seeing new ones are bred or something. Does not bring back the animal but sure goes to show some real thought is put in that direction. A press statement alone does not suffice!

Gbam!!! In such a scenario, u would think common sense and logic would take over trained personnel/staff but I guess common sense is never prepared for the unexpected and THAT IS WHERE GOD COMES IN!!
The boy's life was in mortal danger. A sedative wouldn't have worked as fast. The zoo officials said as much and linda published the post here.
They said a sedative would take to long to work. The gorilla might get agitated by the dart and attack the child.

Sedatives take longer time to work if the animal is already agitated hence the reason they killed it instead.

I also thought about that but then i did a little research and found out that sometimes tranquilizers don't have any effect till a few seconds after it has been administered. Also, the immediate effect of the tranquilizer could make the gorilla aggressive before he falls asleep and the aggressiveness could make him hurt the chuld seriously. That was why they had to put him down. I feel bad too but that was the best option i think.
Am BLACK and am complaining about the gorilla too. That Gorilla died because of human beings not natural death. Just because it's an animal we should shut up or just because they are black you honestly want to play the race card, dare YoU. These parents need to be questioned very WELL. The child in question is 4years old, how come he found himself alone from his parents.
