Dear LIB readers: I paid my house rent in my boyfriend's name, now he has refused to leave my house with his 2 children

I am in a really big mess at the moment and I feel stupid. I moved to Ghana for studies in March and met this handsome Ghanaian who I really liked and fell in love with. He said he just came back from South Africa for some charity work he was supposedly doing with the UN. Few weeks to meeting him, I decided to get a place of my own since I didn't want to stay in the hostel anymore and so we went in search of a place which I got. I loved the apartment and was willing to pay for it but the Ghanaian Landlady told us pointblank she does not give her house out to Nigerians. In order for us not to lose the place since I liked it and I am a Nigerian, the Ghanaian idiot who said he loved me, asked that we pay the house rent in his name.I stupidly agreed and moved in the next day. He moved in also with me. Three days later, the idiot showed up with a set of twins, saying they were his children. I was surprised but I welcomed them and entertained them. They stayed in my apartment for a week, destroying stuffs and eating my food. When I got fed up, I asked their father when is he taking them back to where he brought them from. To my uttermost shock, he replied me saying he does not have a place to take them to as "this is their father's house". I said "huh" and he goes "Yes, their father's name is on the tenancy agreement". I was shocked beyond words. The thing has even made me sick because he has refused to leave my house despite the fact that I have threatened him with police. Sad thing is that he has the tenancy agreement with him and has refused to release them to me.
My rent is due in September 2016. Do I walk out on him leaving my house for him? I am confused on what to do.

1) u stupid sorry for that, for getting a place where u aren't welcomed! It's nt by force to stay in a place where they don't want Nigerians. 2) u have the choice of walking out.. let the 9 month go.. if the police isn't doing anything to it cos honestly u don't av prove. You dont have a choice,just work out on him and leave the house,if you can afford another rent somewhere else.You can never win this case,because his name is on the lease.
My contribution concerning this issue, is that they should have their own space since the mistake have been made or better still pick up your own things and leave

If you have the money to move on, leave. If you don't start raising it. You should not have signed a lease with someone you barely met and I do not recommend to abide the kids for their father's sins. You do not know what this guy could do to you; he could throw you out as it is his house or he could harm you.. Is it worth it?
It is better you stay in the house until the rent expires. Or you can move back the hostel if you can afford it. I hope you've learn from this because we Nigerians sometimes don't appreciate being Nigerians. Ghanaians are bad people and they are jealous of Nigerians. Stop dating them.
He probably conspired with the landlady or landlord as the case may be, babe. If u have money leave the place for them, or just endure and move back to the hostel, instead of being perpetually unhappy

I would suggest you live like a flat mate with him,hes clearly desperate and dangerous,but frustrate the hell out of him make sure you provide nothing in the house or even pay bills let him settle that,since it's his house,am sure he's broke.

Not sure there's anything you can do legally since his name is on the agreement, but if you are the breadwinner, stop paying all the utilities, buying food, et al in the house until you find a place to move to cos I'm not sure you'll be safe in that house once you start withholding funds

The matter is funny and annoying because the nigga doesnt want to go...I will advice you to look around for a mature/ understanding Ghanaian that is on a very friendly term with ur landlady.Explain the matter to the person and u both should go and talk to ur landlady.If she understands and feels pity for you,she will know how to make him leave.If dat doesnt work, involve the police or go to Burma Camp and report him to the military police...I hope u haven't bin flighting with ur neighbours?if u have,just forget d house cause nobody will agree to talk to ur landlady for you.
Pls we need more details is it like a 1room, if it isn't maybe you could stay but report to the police so he doesn't hurt you. But if you can just stay in the hostel your better off than putting yourself in perpetual danger. It's not worth risking your life.

Hi. Sorry story. Anyway legally something can be done. Let us start with the mode of the payment, was it cash or thru the bank. If U can give evidence on how the money was paid. Secondly, U just hav to go and meet the landlord and explain U were desperate and in need of the house, that is why U got a Ghanaian to pay on your behalf. If no action is taken by the landlord.; Just go to a police station and report a case of trespass and nuisance. Don't go into stories with the police, tell them you want to pack out a squatter. That they should come and help U pack the squatter out. U can take laws in your hands by change all the locks in the house if he goes out. Just pack his things outside the compound. But make sure U hav too the landlord first that U r the one that paid. While on my police issue, let the police come and let him claim it I his house and produce the agreement, from there U can now inform the police the whole truth. But get a lawyer, lawyer should be able to get around stuffs like this. U don't need to go to court, only a bit of mischief by the lawyer will sort it out.

Hi dear. Deed is done. In your best interest in dont think it's even safe to be in that space. Thankfully it's just a year's rent and he showed his ass early enough. Move out and for now move back to the hostel. And for the records you do not have a boyfriend you have an idiot, a loser and excuse of a man. But still just so it's on record, retrieve your mode of payment ie record of bank statement showing where funds came from. Then make a formal written report to the police attaching neccesary documents after you have explained everything to the landlord. Don't beat yourself too hard, we have all been stupid.. just in different things.
Poster, remember the Nigerian boy that was murdered by a Ghanaian friend who borrowed his school fees and killed the poor boy when he started asking for it. I don't think the Ghanaian police did anything, at least as at the last interview I read by the victim's father. Better look for alternative accommodation in the hostel and pack out when he is not at home. Let him not steal your money and kill you o. He might start professing love again if he feels you are about to move out or try to get his hands on your money by force.

That's the consequence of making a bad decision. You have to bear the loss and because your name is not on the papers, police or the court won't take you serious because proof of ownership is all that matters. If you can manage, stay! If u can't, then give it up and move on. Take it as a lesson learnt. Never trust anyone! Secondly haven't you heard of the saying that Ghanaian men are very stingy? A stingy man is a desperately wicked cheapskate who will want to use anybody and everything to his benefit. Even Ghanaian women come to Nigeria to hustle for rich men. In fact the moment that landlady said she doesn't rent to Nigerians which I find highly offensive(discrimination), that would have been the turning point and enough reason for you to have found somewhere else.
