Moscow police detain 16 Nigerian students for trashing our embassy in Moscow

Moscow police has detained 16 Nigerian students accused of smashing furniture inside the Nigerian embassy in Moscow. The students went on a rampage yesterday over unpaid grants and had to be forcefully removed from the premises by police, local media reports. The students who are enrolled at colleges of higher education in Russia started smashing things at the conference hall of the embassy after a hearing over their financial problems didn't go well. The students have been detained on charges of hooliganism and will now face administrative charges, the interior ministry said

Linda pls let us hear the side of the students. I am talking as one who has experienced this. The Nigerian government send them out on scholarships and refuse to pay them. Some of them end up resorting to prostitution. Linda pls try and find out what happened it can be frustrating especially in a strange land

I think we should know what is going on bfore we just open our mouth, sometime ago na dis same student no fit pay house rent cos dey didn't receive dia grants 4 months and were forced out by landlords and even hostel administartors in dia schools,as well as in lecture rooms. some went on borrowing and couldn't even pay back making there cases worse, imagine how cold dat country is and uv got no wia to sleep in warmt. I really blame our government, though violent isn't the best to resolve issue so I don't support dem being violent as well but dey need to be heard n attended to. Is even better they are here and facing asuu strike than in another country, no families or friends to run to.
Pls naija help ur youths

Naija and violence.I fink we need to find a betta way to be heard rather than using violence.our leaders r not even helpin matterz.God bless 9ja n give us gud leader.

Yes their violence is wrong but we are overlooking the picture. Unpaid grants- these students are schooling in another country, no body to assist except the people who sent them there. They've been in this situation for months.

Mister anon 12:16am, any pson that has been hungry for months bcos his country sent him to a foreign land and refused to pay him has right to be animalistic. I blame the nigerian ambassador to Russia for allowing his citizens to be arrested on the territory of the embassy. J. Assange of wikileak has been in Ecuador embassy in the UK, UK police can't arrest him bcos Ecuador ambassador says no, it's only a stupid political ambassador of Nigeria to Russia that will allow his citizen to be arrested by russians. What happened to using nigerian defense attache section of the embassy to discipline the students.

The Nigerian embassy in Russia is a Nigerian territory and is free of Russian police authority. Go get a basic education on international relations and diplomacy.

The ambassador goofed that's why he involved Russian police. Our leaders have failed us. Because we are used to fending for ourselves doesn't make it alright.

Nigerian government just continue to fail in every way. This should never have happened. Now they setting up these kids to do things against their moral beliefs just to survive. Good God man, how could they do this to their people in a land of strangers?

Linda i was in Cuba on the same kind of scholarship, we experienced the same ordeal in the hands of the FG, most times we had to seal off the Nigerian Embassy in Havana, frog jump diplomats, scatter the place and all sorts of stuff. Don't blame those students, believe me they were pushed that far. I've been there before Linda, Trust me.

Anonymous 11:50,thank you o! d yeye PC does not know jack!I am a diplomat, and as long as they did what they did inside d Nigerian embassy, they are still within their own territory...that simple! PC,take note,u don't av to leave a comment. Its actually annoying, russian police av no right whatsoever to even lay a finger on them, tokless of detaining them. The students in question last saw money in february.. Last year they got thrown out of hostels and stopped from attending classes due to unpaid fees.. It's hell living in russia without money, I was fortunate enough to have gone on a state program at a time when our funds were released 2years in advance our conditions were better.. The federal students went through hell all year long.. If you're going to send people to a country where they can't work, be kind enough to give them their stipends on time..
