Ministry of Education to merge Christian and Islamic studies in schools

The Federal Ministry of Education in conjunction with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), is working on reducing the workload of primary and junior secondary pupils from 20 to a maximum of ten subjects under the nine-year basic educational curriculum in order to align with International standards.

However, under this scheme Christian and Islamic Religious Studies, which are separately taught, will now be merged under a compulsory subject known as Religion and National Values (RNV).

Other subjects brought under the RNV include Civic Education, Social Studies, and Security Education.

Another experiment. How many teachers for the different topics. I hope the students are not going to be forced to learn religions other than their parents religion. It will not work.

Unknown said...

Yes.very good.let the them begin to know the diff between the both.

is it needed,is it by force to now learn Islamic studies,I am a christian and I don't want to learn about mohammed and his teachings,to hell with these government.

Unknown said...

Why is this government always looking for way to start a religion problem, how can a single teacher teach Islam and Christianity as one subject. Why the merger.you can't force my children to study Islamic religion by force.stupid change.

The ministry is crazy. Linda, a+b=a+b they are not and will never be the same.

God is great.

"Islamisation" be creeping in on us. What do we need Islamic studies for. Change was voted for, change we got.

Unknown said...

Good idea! Same rule should also apply to the three major languages thought in Nigeria schools.but how do they intend to manage the conflict that may result from the joint curriculum. Why not a flexible system that allows for elective modules or that's what they intend? But then they need two separate instructors independent of pupil's interest!

Unknown said...

Good one...

Totally in surport

Anonymous said...

This is Totally unacceptable , it can't happen !!!!Islam's are indirectly making their Islamic Agenda a reality, CHRISTIANS MUST RISE UP AND SAY NO TO THIS PROPAGANDA , C.R.K SHOULD BE TAUGHT DIFFERENTLY WHILE ISLAM DIFFERENTLY AS WE ARE NOT FROM SAME RELIGION!!!!! THIS GOVERNMENT HAS NOT TOLD US THEIR REAL AGENDA IS

Unknown said...

Looks ok.

its always about the northern people, evrything is by force in naija

I don't agree with dis one mbok! Linda take note!

Unknown said...

I think its ok,it'll prevent the unnecessary hate both religions have for each other in the nearest future.. Hopefully..

This is unbelievable and unachievable. They had better use their brains well. Mtcheew.

Islamization of Nigeria kpomkwem! Merging religious studies in order to indoctrinate our children. Impossible!

Anonymous said...

good idea! let them also merge churches and mosques. will that stop the hatred? not at all!

Unknown said...

Its a good idea because teaching Bible stories in the curriculum makes no sense has people who offer this subject go to church where they are taught the faith of their religion. Am a teacher to me its a welcome development

Unknown said...

Merge kwa?... Christians should do theirs while Muslims does theirs too. which one be merge again?

Anonymous said...

Good, this will help to understand all religion and there will be some peace and respect for once.

Anonymous said...

To me, Religious studies should have been banned outrightly, so people can learn to think for themselves. They already have enough religious exposure at church, mosque or temple. But in the absence of that, the merger is a good idea. Nigerians need to learn patriotism and what it means to be a Nigerian.

Anonymous said...

Penny wise pound foolish, this just makes the new subject too vast for the kids, and they have to read and learn all that. Its only convenient for the government not for the students or the schools.

Unknown said...

Dis is a good development especially security n merging Islam n Christian religious studies consciousness will be inevitable. Well done...must persons may not foresee dis but will time u will understand 😄😀

Unknown said...

Please if the can add Nigeria peoples culture and history it would be nice. Because this days it all about American past president the teach our kids in Nigeria school... and making them not to know our own culture. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

how can? una wan islamize the country abi? you will never succeed. wetin concern the 2 subjects togeda? abi the teachers dey complain?

Unknown said...

Ah... It is well o

Anonymous said...

Why will someone choose to teach my child islamic studies if I don't teach him that at home. This govt is forcing rubbish down our throat and I pray the people won't revolt against every oppression

Anonymous said...

Ghen_ghen! Red alert! Easiest way to target christian kids and teach them the religion of terrorism. God forbid! Nigeria is so doomed under this administration.

Anonymous said...

Abi won o gbadun?
Have they gone mad?

Unknown said...

Despite all the complain from the people that there are lots of errors in this scheme, the govt stll wants to go ahead with this merger.
Parents beware of what your children learn.

Hia. End time mergers.

At a point what will be left in the so called Religious and National Values idiocy will be Islamic Religious Studies only. All those headless Christians who voted for this religious fanatic, can you smell what is cooking? Are you people happy now?

Unknown said...

God in heaven will not allow this to happen, those the set up that curriculum with evil heart God will descend on them with his wrath in Jesus name, we are not complaining the way is being taught separate,Islamic is not a religion at all, religion that allow you to kill your fellow human being.Linda see to that case

Stlanre said...

They should get their facts right though the subject is compulsory Muslim students are taught Islamic studies while Christians studies, Christian religious knowlegde. It's been this way in Federal schools for sometime now.

Anonymous said...

Why not merge other subjects like social studies and history or scrap both subjects, let them learn in Church or Mosque. This is a subtle strategy. Cursed be the perpetrators of every evil agenda.

Anonymous said...

Interesting! We would like to know the details of this RNV studies.

Anonymous said...

This needs further clarification

Anonymous said...

End time things. Christian Parents, please do not leave your children in the hands of education to learn about Jesus. The Bible has commanded you to train them in the way of the Lord so that they will not depart from it as they grow.

Anonymous said...

Simply a demonstration of presidential islamic subtlety. This policy is inimical to the peaceful co-existence of Nigerians and a flagrant infringement on fundamental human right of all Nigerians. It will not happen.

Anonymous said...

That is how our constitution was filled with sharia, now they are coming again. Biafra our hope for total freedom.

Nigeria's intimacy with the international community will not us in the right path.the international community believes that all religions are equal and there should not be any segregations. This is only preparing us for one world religion which was prophesied in Rev. 13. In the future it will go more than this, there will be one world government and one world economic system. This is just the beginning.

Finally , the act of terrorism is going to be made very simple. Get them while still young. Where else is better than the schools? SMH

Anonymous said...

You cannot force a child to study a religion that he does not want to study. Besides he might get hypnotised while studying the religion

Anonymous said...

I think its a wrong move oh if u ask me. If a child that is already a christian training to become a priest reads about Mohammed, the two conflicting religions may confuse him. It's not right at all biko.

Unknown said...

Subtly, steadily, continuously, they are trying to islamize Nigeria by catching them young. Before you say Jack Robinson Islam will be the only aspect taught.Don't mix both religions, children are too young to pick a religion except what they learn as they grow up,so don't confuse them. May God intervene.

Unknown said...

Christianity must continue because he brings blessing to the nation

Studying 2 religions together is an increase in workload! Workload is not a function of only no of subjects but level of complications as well and the latter is of higher weight. I smell something. By the way, who has been complaining about this workload thing? KOLAQ

Anonymous said...

Please think deeply! KOLAQ

Following your argument, I hereby suggest that we also merge mosques with churches to promote love! By the way, what about Ifa and Ogun worship?

I have said it before, buhari's major agenda is not to build Nigeria but to islamize Nigeria. The animal grazing right bill is up and this education thing is up too. Open your eyes and let your people know, this is the reason why the are causing so much political confusion in the south and East to distract our leaders while the do what they want.

Unknown said...

The change is now here!who is seeing it with me??forcing the masses to go for a subject contrary to their religion!!!pls u guys forgot to add the traditional religious knowledge!!!

LINDA'S BESTY

good concept? Christians are so gullible and naive. These guys are way smarter. I declare in the name of Jesus that this demonic agenda would not see the light of the day.

As a teacher, your religion is best taught by you. We've been having serious issues concerning what doctrine you teach these kids, some parents will tell you they are Catholics, while some Pentecostal, Celestial, cherubim and Seraphim, Jehovah Witness, Deeper life etc. Even among the Muslims you have different doctrines. Other countries that are living peacefully don't have religious knowledge in their curriculum, a very good example is Republic of Benin.
The division in this country is caused by our affiliation to different religious doctrine and the kids at a point are confused. So please teach your kids the religion you want them to practice. As far as I'm concerned, it should be removed from the curriculum.

Under Buhari's government, it is obvious a there is forced proliferation of Islam domination on the entire christendom. Nigerians did not vote him for religious intimidation by elements of the state or terrorists in the guise of fulani herdsmen. Every parent has the right to guide his children through the religion they belong to until the child comes to the age of accountability when they can choose their own religion. So this evil of trying to annihilate Christianity in this government will not stand in the name of Jesus Christ, amen. If this continues, I forsee a religious war and a country that will eventually break up. Let all Christians arise and fight against this evil uprising with all our might and mind and I know that God will help and bless us in Jesus' name, amen.

Glabobo said...

Yes, it will not happen. May God bring to nought all those who want to force strange religions and doctrines on nigErin Christian s in Jesus' name, amen

Unknown said...

Instead of merging christianity and islam as a religious subject, let there be no religious studies. The National Value should be a subject of its own, but I think we have a civic education as a subject. Let us not collapse the education system further by religious sentiments. God help Nigeria.

Anonymous said...

Amen, ha, Christians-o. Just when will some of you gain wisdom. Good concept indeed!!!
