Thousands of dead gay and bisexual men in UK to be pardoned

Thousands of deceased gay and bisexual men convicted decades ago under the law that didn’t approve same-sex relationship, will be pardoned over the illegal act which was later legalized in 1967.

This comes years after British computer scientist, Alan Turing, who worked during World War II to break Nazi German codes, committed suicide in 1954 after he was subjected to chemical castration as punishment for homosexual activity, but later received a posthumous royal pardon from Queen Elizabeth II.

With the new law adopted to be the ‘Turing Law’, The Justice Minister, Sam Gyimah in his statement on Thursday said it will formally pardon those convicted under the law as long as it was consensual and they were over the age of same-sex relationship, while deceased people who were convicted for the act will be automatically forgiven.

‘It is hugely important that we pardon people convicted of historical sexual offences who would be innocent of any crime today, through pardons and the existing disregard process we will meet our manifesto commitment to put right these wrongs.’

I don't think 'pardon' and 'forgive' are the right words. The convictions should be declared of no effect, expunged from the records, and the persons convicted apologized to. They should never have been convicted for consensual, adult, gay intercourse. Someday, Nigeria will wake up to the fact that the law signed by President Jonathan is a disgrace. That anti-gay law shows ignorance of history and human nature, and places its upholders on the same mental level as those who killed twins for being 'unnatural.'

Rubbish!!! Y must one copy the evilS associated with civilization All bcos US/UK supports it ... Nature doesn't agree to homosexuality. It's evil And learnt cos of peer pressure and the likes.. The penalty in naijas context is fair enough plus serious rehabilitation and mentoring should be done to those who indulge in that act.. .

White people are funny. How can you pardon an already dead man? Since world war 2, some of them are already too old to be gay na. One of them that helped UK fight Germany during the war with his computer expertise even commited suicide when they wanted to castrate him for being gay. Or is it Linda that is not giving us the news properly? because i really dont get their drift

This guy thing could be a medical defect. One could be born a boy but behaves like a girl and have the character of a girl. So we should stop judging them. All we need to do is pray for them because it could be a medical condition or spiritual problem
