LASU students reject school fees reduction by Governor Fashola

Lagos state University students have rejected Governor Fashola's proposed 34% and 60% across the different faculties and courses reduction in school fees.
At a press conference held yesterday June 12th in Ogba, the President of LASU Student Union Government, Nurudeen Yusuf, said the state government should spell out the proposed new fees in Naira and Kobo rather than this percentage as their parents who are responsible for the payments do not know how to calculate in percentage.
"We do not accept the 34 to 60% reduction of the government because in 2011 when the fees were increased, it was not done on percentage level; rather, they made the pronouncement in Naira and Kobo. We urge the government to come out in words as to how much will be paid by our students in Naira and Kobo and not in percentage. How do they expect our parents, the market women scrambling to pay our fees, to calculate the percentage? The government is only trying to play games with our future. We question their sincerity on this matter because the pronouncement of the fee was as a result of a visitation panel set up by the government of which the report was selectively adopted" Yusuf said

I don't understand their reasoning. If their parents are vendors, they should be able to do basic math. Why not reject the reduction because it still leaves an affordable education out of reach? Students, just say you want more negotiations because the fees are too damn high.

This Yusuf is stupid sha.. Does what he said make any sense to him?? Can't he do they calculation himself and explain to his illiterate parents?? What's all the unecessary bants for?? Abeg u've no point. ~ribena~

As an indigene of Kano state, you don't pay a single dime to attend a public school. As long as its owned by the government and you are an indigene of Kano, you don't pay a dime in Kano. Lagos government should adopt the same method so as to help eradicate illiteracy in the economy.

this president is a big fool. so you are in school for what then? if you cant convert yourself. the govt has to hold your hands and do everything for you? nonsense

Anonymous said...

So this matter calls for a press conference and not a letter to the school authority as to when the exact figures will be announced to them. His level of reasoning is obviously too shallow. Soon we will hear they are on strike cuz of this matter.

Talasa ... Bringing religious difference into this setting actually shows d stupidity in ur human existence .. Wait, if the sch fees eventually gets reduced will d muslims students be the only one to benefits.. Ur kind of pple are d reason there is a war in d north. God damned religious fanatic. If u were so smart with % why not offer to calculate the new sch fees for dem. If u are wise enof, u should be able to deduce that govt is actually playing politics with d future of these students.. Yusuf as shown that his sch fees as not gone to waste by being able to point out d foul play... Let the govt spell out the sch fees in naira and kobo simple..

Anon 11:48 is clear to me that u r d type that can be easily taken for a ride due to ur lack of reasoning well or thinking on ur feet abi u r naturally dull. R u blind or jst stupid? Or its all of the above. If intelligent, smart or brilliant ppl talk jst sit and listen ok. Its common sense to spell their fees out in black and white no playing politics or games. Which one is 34%-60% across the departments? Which of the departments abeg let the government come out and spell it all out for the students and affected parties

Unknown said...

@anon 11:58 &1:50 it shows that both of u r shallow minded talking like senseless ppl even a made man walking on d road reason better than both of you put together. If u don't knw what to say cos u don't think before you talk then pls shut the hell up.

When you learn how to spell, then we can talk. Am not suprised u said this. Am very sure you are as dumb as you sound so calculation will be a HUGE problem for you. I dont expect Nigerians to be surprised for all the happenings shooting out.We should also not panic. All we need do is to look out for solutions.
In 2012,oil subsidy was removed,In 2014,electriity subsidy was also taken off.Now its educational subsidy and please dont be surprised by the time they come up with air subsidy.By then,Nigerian will be paying for the air they breath.

For full enlightment on what is happening in our society since the elected president took over the presidential villa,I will recomend a book titled: People Power in Africa: A WEEK THAT CHANGED NIGERIAN FOREVER WRITTEN BY MOSHOOD ADEMOLA FAYEMIWO PHD AND MARGIE MARIE NEAL ED.D .

The authors began the Introduction to the book with the origin of the contentious issue of subsidy withdrawal on petroleum products in Nigeria describing the beginnings with the Yakubu Gowon military regime at the height of the world energy crisis of 1973 and the various successive governments except during the regime of General Muhammadu Buhari of 1984/1985 and the administration of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua –the only two administrations that reduced the prices of gasoline for Nigerians. The authors narrated the anatomy of the debacle called withdrawal of petroleum subsidy by Mr. Jonathan on New Year’s Day and the part played by Dr Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s current minister of finance the architect of the unpopular policy and the agent of the two world imperialist agencies: the IMF/World Bank in Nigeria.

BOOK NOW AVAILABLE AS EBOOK.

U sound like u have a tail... Did they tell u they can't do the conversion? My friend this is politics that fashola is trying to play and the SUG is smart enough not to fall for it. #Spell-It-Out-In-Naira-And-Kobo!

Unknown said...

Foolish annonymous with their stupid ways of reasoning. Who can't do the % conversion? Mumu lemme explain to u what the SUG govt mean, they mean that fashola and co shld stop playing politics and being diplomatic on hw they handle the school fees reduction issue and come out straight with the exact figures in naira and kobo... When govt increased the school fees some time ago why didn't they increase it in %? Mtchwwww mumu annonymous with a long-thick-hairy tail...

This is Naija and those students know what they are saying. Government will come out tomorrow to say that 35% of bla bla bla is so so and so. Then another fight will erupt. I expected everyone here to understand what the students were saying. It wasn't all about calculations, it's about twisting the calculations tomorrow. Let's stop claiming 'I too know'- Most of you saying they aren't brilliant enough to calculate the figures are the real illiterates here; for finally failing to figure out the simple gesture these students just made. Pretenders claiming brilliant. Iriots in Okon's voice.
