Uncle Jona goes to Brazil :-)

President Jonathan traveled to Brazil yesterday June 19th to take part in a UN Earth Summit, and Nigerians are condemning him for leaving the country amidst violence in some Northern states. Was he wrong to have traveled at this time?

He should send a delegate there but anyway i think his absence should be celebrated bcos it means safety for the Nigerians. Jona is the reason for the bombings.

I honestly do not think that he was wrong for leaving becuase him staying won't still have brought a solution. He's just doing what he's good at. Decorative leader so that they wont just say that Nigeria doesn't have a leader. Osi o daa

ONOME says.......
It's a sad state of affairs when a whole president and commander in chief travels to another country when his country is on fire:(
Sad really sad.
I don't give a hoot what he went to that country to do or how it would impart on Nigeria in the future. Its immaterial. That he dare leave at this time where every Sunday is a colossal loss of lives in his country is really sad.
Nigerians you are ON YOUR OWN.It's time you all realised that and got with the programme.Noone really cares about you all.Noone.He has shown that the average life of a Nigerian is dispensable and worth......nothing.SHAME.
God bless Nigerians.Please keep safe.

Personally, i dont think him going to Rio de Janeiro is a bad thing... he is representing the country @ the international level and it is also for the wellbeing of the nation.

For that answer Linda, allow me to ask you another question.
Do you think Obama would travel out of the United States to another country if there are terrorist attacks in New York, Philadelphia, Washington?
Do you think the British PM would travel to another country that was on his schedule/itinerary if there bomb attacks around London?
NO! Why? Because these leaders realize that they were elected into office by the people that are being attacked and hence their primary role/responsibility is towards the people that elected them by providing the solution to the problems at hand and not to attend summits and sign Memorandum of Understanding. Those are things that can be rescheduled, delegated to a representative of the government or done via embassies in each other countries.
It is so unfortunate that we have been saddled with a man of this nature to lead us in Nigeria.
Sadly, 2015 will roll around and some people will still vote for him and say - it is a vote for Jonathan and not a vote for PDP or his name is "Goodluck" he will bring goodluck to Nigeria.
We are masters of our own destinies - till we learn to reject the "bowl of pottage" and keep our birthright to choosing good leadership that merits leading a great nation like Nigeria, till we learn to stop mortgaging our future for a few thousand/million naira or a couple of bags of rice, till we place more value on the country Nigeria than the next illegitimate contract we will get from the seating government- then we are condemned to having leaders that will throw us on the garbage heap of destiny.

God have mercy. How will the summit he went to attend in Brazil directly impact on Nigerians. What value is there for the country to get. He went because of the estacodes he and his entourage will get, and they we tell us they are fighting corruption, whereas they are the number One theif. In the last two weeks do u know how many lives have been lost in this country due to man made causes, a country that is not in a war situation, u r loosing ur citizens like chicken, and the best thing is for mr president to jet out to brazil for a summit that has no meaning to Nigerians. Brazil is the 6th best economy in the world a step ahead of Britain. Our country is already a failed state. And the president has no clue on how to fix it. Mr no shoe, provide shoe for Nigerians.

Anonymous said...

fair enough the country is not in the right place however of what good is he being in Nigeria... na Jonathan go carry gun find terrorist? His job is to review information provided to him, ask his advisers what they think and he will make the decision. Which you and i will agree he does not need to be there for.

Nigerians has a people need to calm down on this ONE mentality, by this i mean believing that only ONE man will save Nigeria some day. If you and I dont think of ways to solve nigeria's problem trust no one would and our children won't as well.

We all need to take responsibility and stop taking the easy route by abusing Joe (mean while i do not like the guy to). If we want Boko Haram Gone we all need chip in.

on a lighter note, don't we want a president who can multi task?

The truth is Jonathan is clueless and being in Nigeria now will make no difference because he does not know what to do. But at least he should have showed some sensitivity and stayed back. Firstly, many presidents and prime ministers have left their countries in times of fire. Bush did it. Cameron has done it. But we have to criticise Jona?!
Secondly, when he is around what does he do? What solution has he proffered? or his advisers for that matter? The bombs still go on while he sits in aso rock eating cassava bread.
Please let him go o. Let him go sef and not come back.

It is indeed sad for the President to have left the country when the crisis had already started and he was well aware (while still in country). Recently, Hillary Clinton refused to travel for an international event (like this one) on account of her mother's illness! Compare this with our own mumu President who left a whole day after over 74 citizens were butchered...The President commits errors of judgment like it's water...And this was a Summit the Minister of Environment could have easily handled (at least it wasn't the full UN Assembly). Ill-advised trip!!! So sad

By SaharaReporters, New York

As Nigerians lament the abrupt departure of President Goodluck Jonathan for Brazil in the middle of violence and counter-violence in the North, SaharaReporters has gathered that the Nigerian ruler arrived at his destination with 116 men and women, the largest national delegation, contrary to his pledge in January to travel at less weight and expense.

Our sources say the team is made up of:
• 25 personal aides
• 18 aides of Patience Jonathan
• 2 members of the National Assembly
• 5 Ministers
• 2 Governors, and
• 63 officials from the Ministries of Enviroment, Foreign Affairs, National Planning and Petroleum Resources.

The junket will continue for Mr. Jonathan next week Thursday when he will be in Brussels for the World Customs Conference, scheduled for June 28-30. He will be taking with him about 57 people, including 26 aides, 3 Ministers, 8 members of the National Assembly, and 20 other government officials.

From June 25 to 29, Mrs. Jonathan will be in Maryland, United States, accompanied by 36 people: 18 aides, 4 wives of Governors, and 14 friends and associates.

Nigerian political parties yesterday lambasted Mr. Jonathan’s decision to leave for Brazil, just hours after violence and counter-violence had reportedly resulted in over 74 dead and hundreds injured. On Sunday, the president called on God to intervene in the violence.

He was disgustingly wrong. In fact I think I'm still in shock that he not only went, but he carried his wife with him too. It was a summit on climate change not a bloody vacation. Presidents with half a brain send delegates at best or maybe send their wives with other delegates to the states in trouble at worst, but even that is silly. He doesn't even have anything to contribute because Nigeria has not achieved any of the millennium development goals. They just went there to sleep and make fools of themselves and us as usual. They should ask him at the summit what he's doing there when his country is on fire. The cranial capacity of this man is... I just don't know. I give up on this country.

Nigerians, the terrorists and their political sponsors have got you thinking what they planned.

Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Isreal, UK have all experienced and still experiencing terrorists bombs, the citizens condemn the bombers, not the government. Only in Nigeria are things opposite.

Should the President remain indoors and not do any work! That would mean the terrorist and their crew will succeed. Think deeply people. Perhaps pray to God if you need help in doing so.

NYC-1 says: Jonathan feels snubbed by world leaders who did not invite him to the G20 Summit that just ended yesterday, Tuesday, June 19th in Mexico. HE WAS NOT invited; but South Africa and Brazilian leaders were there. Just look at the pictures, you will notice that there is no guard of honor or Brazilian president to welcome him. It is good that Nigeria rulers (not leaders) are beginning to feel and look like FOOLS in world Arena. He travelled all the way from Africa to attend a Summit which the host country's president delegated to the interior minister to host.

I presume he is just cruising with his wife so that at the end of his tenure, he could look back and say: "I went here, I went there." Only a fool will chase after rat when his house is on fire.

@joy ojay The conference he is attending holds every 20 years. In this conference, global issues are discussed and a plan for the next 20 years is put in form of a working document with all the leaders input to be reviewed in the next conference. In the last 20 years, we have experienced upsurge in Terrorism, Carbon emission, poverty etc. All these will be discussed. There are over 130 presidents in this conference and a total of 50,000 government officials. So those are the facts. You can now check for yourself if he is right or wrong.

irresponsibility of the highest order....look at our president, travelling for such a trivial matter in the middle of chaos and killings in his country, classic case of misplaced priorities.

The bush man is not fit to be a leader. Somebody needs to explain to him what it means to be Commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

They should divide this country and let these pple go and bomb only themslves.Ojukwu tried for the Easterner to be on their own but these animals refused now they want to go indirectly by using Boko Haram to kill innocent pple. They should know that nobody or group has monopoly of violence, other ethnic/religious groups are no longer watching but will fight back

Nigerians have been instigated into fighting each other in d guise of religious crisis... (reprisal attacks, as it is called)!!!; Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Yobe, Kano, Maiduguri (we've seen so much death that the Country has not experienced since the civil war)... Are we so ignorant to see that we are being used? We've lived in d same neighbourhood, grew up 2gether, ate 4rm d same lunch box, wore each other's clothes in school, sat side by side in class, played in d same team, slept in d same bed, n used d same toilets. We are the same. We are all NIGERIANS. We have inter-married, had children 2gether. So, who are we killing now? Simple answer, "our sons/daughters, fathers/mothers, husbands/wives, uncles/Aunties, nephews/nieces. We are killing ourselves and destroying our own properties. If the Government wants 2 end this insecurity n BLOOD BATH today, they can and they will... But then, they dnt want to... Why then are we fighting each other...? We need to Use our brains people. The Government is not ready to tackle this issue. Why should they even care? After all, their houses are guarded 24hrs a day, their cars are bomb proof, their children are in the US, the UK, Asia, etc while U and I are here suffering, fighting and killing each other n destroying the little we have... I call on all Nigerians, Muslims & Christians, Men & Woman, Military & Civilians, to please look beyond this crisis... We are one, & we should strive to build the nation... RIP to d lost lives in d recent KD n Yobe crisis... Pls share to all your contacts. Lets stop the hate.

A lot has been said on this issue and rightfully so people are ticked off regarding Jonathan leaving the country when all is not well.

Other heads of State that are already out of the country when things like thia happen round up their itirenary and rush back home to be at the helm of things.

vidently, GEJ does not have his priorities straight and it really amazes me that his advisers or lack there is could not tell him otherwise. Or maybe they did but the Dame wants out of the country and he succumbed. You know she wears the pants in the house. Would you guys check and see whether Bianca O is out there too. Oh no he wouldnt cos Dame is around.

GEJ certainly has gone crazy, talk about abdication of duties or better yet, malfeasance and misfeasance all combined together.

We are toast in this country cos if you send GEJ back to the creeks where he definitely belongs, then the creek boys(militants) will stifle the country's economy. So ya'll be ready for the showdown in 2015. Ya'all arr cought between a hard place and a rock. No GEJ the militants will surface and that's even worse cos the military does not even know there way through the creeks. GEJ comes back, am sorry he's not even gone yet and the hausa boys (boko haram) are killing the southerners and christians.
