Gov Fashola flies father abroad for medical treatment

The governor flew his sick dad, Ademola Fashola, to the US last week for medical attention for an undisclosed ailment. Pa Fashola was said to have been accompanied to the US by two doctors from Lagos state, one of who is the Medical Director of Ebute Metta Health Centre, Dr. F.O Williams.

Maybe this is the reason why he is very upset at medical doctors in lagos! He has probably seen how their strike can affect lives.

Hmmmmm.. Lol wat a joke?

Where are all the fools dat championed his sack of many doctors. Life na per head, he just flew his father out for med care, but he employed 300 odd drs in place of 700 odd ones. Do the math.

Flying his father out of d country is insane when other fathers of citizen of Lagos state are dying due to lack of agreement btw him and Lagos doctors...this is so sad for our country...

Truth is neither parties are affected by this tug of war. The pple in govt can afford to fly themselves or theor relatives abroad for treatment while the doctors have jobs in private hospitals or own private hospitals. At the end of the day,it is the masses that suffer! SAD!

Linda! Abeg answer this question for me.......obviously, you have the money to afford such......so my question is....if your mother or father was critically ill, and you know the local docs do not have the solution; will you fly them out or wait and hope for our docs to finish browsing google?

Its ok! But he should remember that Steve Jobs with all his pay and best doctors in the world still "Died in the US". To pay Doctors make dem treat malaria make im no for kill poor man, him no go do. God is watching you!

Hmmm...and I used to be such a fan of Fashola. Now, not so much. His actions are most unbecoming of a leader. This faceoff now seems to be more about egos than the well being of the pple of Lagos who are suffering the most from this standoff. Both parties, the Docs and the Govt need to put aside their inflated egos, shift grounds and reach a compromise. The govt may see the demands of the docs as unreasonable, but when pples lives are at stake, the govt has to act more diplomatically than it is. If the story that Fashola has flown his father abroad for medical treatment, then it just goes to show insensitive he is. I'm not asking him to allow his father die to prove a point..but it needs to sink into his stubborn head that majority of the populace have no such luxury and pple are dying evryday.PLS PLS PLS Enuf is Enuf...We get it, both of u guys have powers...We know! When elephants fight, its the grass that suffers

Come on . Pa fashola used to leave down the road from me. He lived in Chicago for almost 10 years . So I dont see anything wrong in the man comin back here for treatment.

Dis is news bcos, so u want his father 2 die cos of sum greedy doctors. Abeg I dnt blame cos if it was my mum 2 I will do d same nd even if dis doctors didn't go on strike, fashola will still fly his father abroad 4 adequate health care.

Fatimah said...

Stop this unnecessary sensationalism. Do you think it's every ailment that can be treated in Nigeria, why was Oke sent to India or were the doctors striking at the time?

So what if his father was flown abroad? Let there be objectivity in reporting!

ONOME says...........
Initially I was not going to comment on this post because I have been keenly following the responses of Nigerians concerning the face off/deadlock between the Lagos State Governor(Barrister Fashola) and the medical doctors and to say I am surprised, disgusted, alarmed at the responses of a lot of Nigerians to this serious issue is putting it very mildly.

I feel really bad for Nigerians or should I say "I feel really sad for Nigerians".It would be a very long long time before Nigerians can free themselves from the shackles of poverty, injustice and unfairness that has so interwoven them that they have adopted the attitude of "learned helplessness" and become so lazy and docile in manner that any sh***t that is thrown their way is accepted with asinine grace.

When someone slaps you once and you turn the other cheek and he slaps you twice and you turn the other cheek and he slaps you again and you turn ........and you seemingly refuse to stop the patten of abuse then you deserve all you get.You really do.Nigerians need to stop playing the victim role in situations that go on in that country. At which point do Nigerians say "enough is enough,we can take no more"?At which point are we going to say "we have had enough".At which point are we going to say "it is not well,God is not going to come down and redeem our country from the mess we all collectively created"?

I said it that time when Linda post up the first post on the Fashola/Lagos state saga.I said that Fashola nor his family members would be caught dead in any of the hospitals in Nigeria and, lo and behold,I have been proven right.Your leaders are not interested in your plight because their children do not go to the same schools your children go to,their sick fathers do not go to the hospitals your sick fathers go to,they do not suffer the lack of security you all suffer, they do not suffer the lack of employment you suffer, they do not know what poverty is.They do not know what it is not to have light for days. They do not know because they live in an enclosed bubble,on their own island,by their own rules while you all suffer, grind your teeth and say "it is well"."God will redeem us".YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET IN LIFE.Everybit.

Are there traffic lights in lagos ?? My white friends and I were arguing about black people being the most underdeveloped people in the whole world. What of good roads?? Can u turn ur tap for water to run?? But I'm still proud to be nigerian though! I just wish adenuga with all his wealth will help naija with traffic lights atleast on 7roads then the politicians would contribute their own to their designated states .. I mean we need to start from somewhere ! And trust me wen I make my own 'money' I will choose atleast 3sates and start working on it. I will make sure I go round and ask jobless graduates in engineering and so on, to come out. I will make sure I pay them and then ask them to knack their heads together and come up with the best structural buildings, and so on, I mean do u know how much talent is aimlessly walking about in nigeria?? This dream I have must surely come true !!

Obviously his father's sickness at dis crucial time is an act of God cos God wants us to see the real kind of person fashola is.( A two faced governor).

Anonymous said...

Good question! There are too many biased one way thinkers on this blog. The old man used to live abroad. If he didn't come back here, this will not be news. And the person talking of Steve Jobs... Amadioha stone you with broken mirror there.

Exactly pls leave our darling fashola alone,u wld do d same thing if u were in his shoes, bunch of hypocrites!fyi he ddnt go to d states!

I have no problem flying a family member to get better treatment in a more advanced country especially if you have the money.

My only problem is these leaders don't care for the average Nigerian who don't have the money and are dying everyday because of the poor healthcare system in Nigeria. It should be a wake up call.

So, there are no working Physicians in Ibadan, Abeokuta, Ilorin or other public or private sectors in Nigeria.
The mentality, even that of a senior advocate of Nigeria is the same, the equipments are more abroad, even if they are operated by chimps in those places.
Even though PAST Naija trained Physicians are more brilliant as evidenced by their position in those hospitals abroad, the "leaders" remain mentally conquered.
The NEW Naija trained Physicians are only interested in personal enrichment at the expense of the other health sector participants and so goes their service delivery.

Well i dont know whats more insulting; that he flew his dad to the US or that he even took 2 Nigerian doctors with him, doctors that should be attending to issues here. Obviously he took those doctors with him because he considers them to be competent. we all know that nigerian doctors are very competent infact all my doctor friends that relocated abroad (because of bad treatment in their country) are all doing so well! now the question is why did he fly out the competent doctors instead of allowing them to treat his dad right here? the reason is because he knows that we do not have the right equipment/resources to tackle the problem (i am not even going to mention the doctors that were sacked, let God judge him on that). but whose responsibility is it provide funds so that Lagos state hospitals are well equiped? I guess the answer is blowing in the wind....the truth is that the guy does not care what we think of him, he is not running for 3rd term afterall....

Oh my goodness you guys. Papa fashola is a US citizen who lived and worked in the U.S. He still has his papers. If he chooses to come down here for treatment or stay in naija, he has a choice. He has his doctors over here, I am sure and may choose to use them. Naijas are such anal people. THe annoying thing is you read this blog and see how evil minded most are to their neighbors yet they scream blue murder at the govt...hiss

He can afford to fly his father outside the country. What about the millions that cannot? Why has the Lagos State government refused to fulfill their end of the agreement?

I heard the baba used to do home health aid in Chicago and has lived there for a long time. It is not like Fashola flew him there. The man already knows the ins and outs of Chicago and may have a MD he already sees there

Good to Know Fashola's dad neighbours are on this blog, some 10 hses away, some 2 blocks away.

Pls help us to beg BABA GOMINOR to please beg his SON to end this Fight with doctor.

@ hiss

He flew in two doctors to watch his father in case any emergency occur. Well, there are competent Nigerian doctors but the problem is having sufficient and the right medical equipment to treat the patients. Let's be honest here, Nigeria's healthcare system is not conducive to treat a lot of medical diseases and surgeries.

He did nothing wrong flying his dad out here. The government is very much aware of the poor health care system in Nigeria. You will think, the awareness will bring in change but no. It's Very sad.

There is nothing wrong in going any length to save a life. But there is everything wrong in speaking from both sides of ones mouth. BRF is being celebrated by mediocre as a performing governor. BRF will always stand out first to real insults on others to present himself as a saint and lover of people while ignoring his own maladministration. Politics is not everything. Lets guide our conscience.
