You know what this will do to Nigerians? It will cause unnecessary suffering. Everything from transportation to food, to goods and services..EVERYTHING will skyrocket. Untold hardship, especially on poor Nigerians. Did the people in power even wonder how the poor will survive?
We don't have 24/7 electricity in this country, most of the time we need to fuel our generators, we now have to fuel it for N141 per litre? Are these people serious?
The Federal Government have all this excuses why the subsidy removal is necessary, forgetting that we are an oil producing nation and if our refineries were working, all this won't be necessary. So they are punishing us for their incompetence?
The PPPRA announcement when you continue...
PPPRA Announces Formal Removal of Subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
Following extensive consultation with stakeholders across the nation, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) wishes to inform all stakeholders of the commencement of formal removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), in accordance with the powers conferred on the agency by the law establishing it, in compliance with Section 7 of PPPRA Act, 2004.
By this announcement, the downstream sub-sector of the petroleum industry is hereby deregulated for PMS. Service providers in the sector are now to procure products and sell same in accordance with the indicative benchmark price to be published forthnightly and posted on the PPPRA website.
Petroleum products marketers are to note that no one will be paid subsidy on PMS discharges after 1st January 2012.
Consumers are assured of adequate supply of quality products at prices that are competitive and non-exploitative and so there is no need for anyone to engage in panic buying or product hoarding.
The PPPRA in conjunction with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) will ensure that consumers are not taken advantage of in any form or in any way.
The DPR will ensure that the interest of the consumer in terms of quality of products is guaranteed at all times and in line with international best practice.
In the coming weeks, the PPPRA will engage stakeholders in further consultation to ensure the continuation of this exercise in a hitch-free manner.

which used to be N65...an incredible 50% + increase.
its true models no sabi maths jk :)
its a 100%+ increase
back to topic. may the hatted dunce burn. the man no get liver tell us during his address yesterday, and even had the temerity to wish us a happy new year
I had seen it coming dat is y i didnt want to suport his tenure before cos d cartel are more powerful than him, nd him dat is just a small boy among dem dat want to be recognised will do whatever dey told him naa. Why didnt they remove subsidy on other items like alcohol, cigarret, d foodstuff dat we import whereas we have dem, y petroleum. Nobe him fault na, na una wey vote for him at first.
65 to 130 is a 100% increase. N65 to N141 is waaaay more than than.
Generators use diesel, not petrol, so that cost remains level.
Overall, good job by GEJ, no reason to subsidize what need not be subsidized in the first place.
Na wa O!
that is more than 110+ % linda, do your maths well
Your maths is defective. Its over 100% increase not 50%.
Boko Haram wahala is there...is this d next thing to do? After this now toll gat would commence... minimum wage them no pay, yet everything will double in price now. Gosh! what sort of government is this? Are we still going to continue paying tax after all these? what is our tax for?. A million and 1 questions on my mind. Mehn I need to seek asylum elsewhere cos Nigeria is now official a failed state... a nation on self destruct mission. God help Naija
Why hasn't Boko Haram bombed Aso Rock yet? This Jonathan is a failure
I have decided to just live my life and not be bothered by the Goodluck Jonathan trouble we have all put on ourselves in dis country.
Let all man/woman be strong and continue living until d day it bites us enough for us to react! GEJ has dared us and unfortunately the best we can do is write on the internet and howl about jona yet no concrete reaction!
Linda, you no do maths for secondary school?
Thunder will fire them.....Wicked and heartless set of people.
I'm just confused... Dnt even kno wat 2 say.. God come 2 our rescue..
Pls anybody know where they now take to europe apart frm libya. Cos me am tired of dis 9ja. After all if i apply 4 visa now them no go give me. Them go say i be terrorist or drug barron
HMMMM! THIS IS NOT GOOD AT ALL! IN THIS NEW YEAR?
The problem with Jonathan is that he is inconvincing. He should try justify the subsidy removal.
Waoh. We are in trouble in dis Gods forsaken naija. Our can we Cope with dis increase
A. Click on my name to check out the link I have attached for Hon. Minister of Finance's position on the issue.
B. check out the following message allegedly from Tam David-West that's currently circulating on Blackberry:
1) One barrel of Crude oil = 42gallons or
159 litres
... 2) Our Refineries (i.e 4) Installed
(combined) capacity = 445,000
... barrels per day
3) Actual refineries capacity due to
ageing equipment = 30% i.e. 133,500
barrels per day
.
4) . . 133,500 barrels = 21.2 million litres
5) Local required consumption (F.O.S) =
12millions litres
6) It means that even our MORIBOND
refineries can actually meet our local
consumption need of petroleum.
7) The cost structure of crude oil (i.e.
Qua Iboe Crude Oil) production;
- Findings / development - $3.5
- Production cost - $1.5
- Refining Cost - $12.6
- Pipeline/transportation - $1.5
- Distr/bridging fund Margin -$15.69
True cost of one litre of petroleum
anywhere in Nigeria;
- Total sum cost = $34.8
- 1ltr cost = $34.8/159 litres = $0.219
- Naira equiv. 0.219xN160= N35.02k
- Add Tax N5 + N35.02 = N40.02
9) Let FGN refute the above composition
and if not, they should tell us how
they came about N65/litre.
10) Locally refined products cannot be
sold at International price.
....etc, etc.
Analysis done by Professor Tam David West, former Petroleum Minister.
Goat luck Jonathan....na big fool....dis guy has plan on destroying dis country ....
Wow...and i thought gas was too expensive in the US. Jonathan has failed as a president, and Nigeria, am sorry to say is heading nowhere right now. May God bring Nigeria back to the path it was meant to be. This is not a good news for the new year at all!
We don die o...Can we survive dis?!
I just bot fuel in abuja for 138 a litre. Can u beat that? We are in deep trouble. Which way nigeria??? Forward or backward?
I think we should be patient with this Bad-luck Egbere Jonathan. Credit to him, he has the testicular fortitude to do what OBJ could not do. My only fear is that the execution of this project might be less than satisfactory. But for now, we are condemned to a hike in the price of everything. Rumours circulating even claim that prostitutes are planning to hike their prices...lol....
Check out this craziness....How to get a girl to sleep with you in 20 minutes!! On my blog...
Em, Linda, it's actually an increase of over 120%
So this is the fresh air they promised us.presido thnks for the new year gift.at a time when most of we don broke.
God dey sha
What a new year GIFT. GEJ has dared Nigerian masses. I hope ds ends well...
By d way, Lindy darling, if d price goes frm N65 to N141, d difference, N76 is about 116% of d old pump price & not 50%!
Na wa oh! I don't even know what to say. Nigeria which way?
Linda its actually 120% increase. This is the worst new year gift a government can give to its people. Which way Nigeria? I hope NUC, NLC, Pengassan, etc will fight for Nigerians since our government has failed us.
This is going to affect everything. Prices for food items will go up, transportation will go up, everything! And who's gon suffer all this? The masses! We have a very wicked government. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has failed us! That man is a weakling. Universities (ASUU) is on strike, bombings everywhere, no security, nad roads, Lekki residents just started paying toll fees at the toll gate on a Federal road! Funny enof, d masses areill not at the receiving end. The president will not feel all this because he doesn't pay for fuel. We should all go on strike and let everything in this country come to a halt!
Resultant effect from d misdeeds of our previous leaders. The baton of the race which was poorly started off has just been passed to johnathan and instead of picking up and finishing with momentum, he has crashed and dashed hopes.our leaders have let us down.
I trust Nigerians, liverless set of people.......If everybody can take d risk lets revolt
Linda its not 50% increase o....its over 100% increase
Linda, Advice!!! Go buy inverter......60hours constant power when fully charged
Who knows this might trigger the African awakening. I wonder which politician will pocket the difference...
This is jst dissheartning our leaders hve turn deaf ears 2 our complaints for their own selfish intrests.Even an average Nigerian can barely survive not 2 talk of the poor...The state of our country right now is embarassing and so depressing were our tomorrow is not promised nd we can only pray to God to see us through..No electricity, no good infastructure, food is becoming less affordable every day, Good education is rediculously expensive no form of functional security..plz why then do we hve leaders?
Smh! This is sad. Sumtin nids to be done! The question now is 'what'
God punish goodluck, his family, all his advisers and every1 who is in support of d removal of fuel subsidy!!! This is going 2 cause untold hardship!!! I've been weeping since I bought fuel for #138.15k from NNPC 2day! This is totally unfair, this is cruelty, sheer wickedness!! I call on all d unions 2 embark on strike! GEJ has proved that he's d worst president in d history of Africa! I weep for Nigeria
This will only increase the rate of robbery n prostitution bt it is well!
ADESUWA
So sad! The rate of poverty just went a notch higher.. To think GEJ delivered this as a 'newyr gift'
And you have it all wrong linda, do d math.. its 100% + increase not 50%..
100% + increase!
Fail, its over 100% increase
well, my take on dis is, so long as the government is being honest with dis reform, i'd rather pay a little more for transport than have a few rich pocket billions. If dis reform will encourage companies with licenses to build refineries to do so, thereby creating jobs in d long run, then am willing to pay the price now. Just my take.
gosh..this Linda Ikeji you're so...don't you watch the news, debate etc (or do you just talk to create more ramblings from readers ! ) The hardship from this subsidy removal is nothing compared to the poverty Nigeria would be facing soon if it doesn't stop borrowing money to cover this oil subsidy of which most goes to people like IBB & OBJ's pockets !
When the communication subsidy was initially removed wasn't it N35/min to call with MTN? How much is it today? In the past having a house phone was a rich man's thing now even a pure water boy has a cellphone!!! How many telecom companies do we have today?
Same goes for oil, this would increase competiton and oil refineries which means employment opportunities for our youths. Nigerians there is no free lunch, lets endure this for awhile cause the market competition would soon start.
Before it happens a revolution seems impossible, after it happens a revolution seems inevitable...
Dat stupid man go die ni
yyyyyyy????????
Linda, yes Nigerians are suffering. Is it Goodluck Johnathan that caused it? Shouldn't he try to do something about it? Should we continue to bury our heads in the sand like stupid ostriches and hope that the problems will go away? Educate your readers and let us for once ask pertinent questions. Like Adams Oshiomole said, government is not a popularity contest. We are in deep shit in this country so i advice we all raise awareness for governmwent to clean up our law enforcement agencies and empower our judiary so that people who are stealing us blind can be pursued and brought to book so that the collective wealth of all will truly be used for all. Let's face it LIB readers, we need to deal with these issues now or face greater hell in the future. Nigerians need to wake up to the real world and face our problems squarely.Ghana recently removed their own fuel subsidy and heavens did not fall. Don't whip up unnecessary sentiments here based on half information. It's not just about being the most popular blogger on cyber space. Inform yourself so that you can equally inform others correctly. We must give government time to prove themselves before we begin to crucify them. Publish this if you like, it is my opinion and i am entitled to it.
President Goodluck Jonathan has the best intention for Nigeria. He has done the right thing by removing oil subsidies. It's a bold step in the right direction. He should be applauded. Those who are profiting from oil subsidies are Hausa / Fulani billionaires, not the poor / average man on the street. Nigeria is not a nanny state and must not fund the oppulent lifestyles of the Hausa / Fulani elites who alreay own 95% of major oil companies in Nigeria.
Nigerians voted Good luck not PDP. All those celebrities that campaigned for him, hope they suffer all this as well. D'banj, Genny, Steph okereke.
Linda baby no dey fall my hand na. That's like a 110% increase not 50 lol. Anyway, I hope those who voted him in suffer it more. Guess 'ey're now choking on the fresh air he promised 'em. *smh*
We have a fool for a president
We have a Government that Lie, a deceitful set of Leaders, You remenber that they said, the subsidy will not be removed until April, Now he took Nigerian unaware, How can a good Government start a New Year with such wickedness, I used to spend about N200 on Transportation when it is normal, minus feeding on less than 50,000 salary which is not consistent, How will i now cope with double the amount when the money gets finished in the middle of the month because of several expences. GEJ is wicked, Nigerian voted him on compassionate ground thinking he will be a good President. see what we get.............I am tied of this country. I may be contemplating suicide too like the other facebook Guy................
Linda....don't be one sided.don't fuel hate.its time for Nigerians to wake up! Let them produce.Let the economy be restructured.it isn't a matter of refineries alone. We depend so much on petroleum.the whole economic structure is inept
Plsss it is tym 4 jonathan to b impeachd, even as wicked as OBJ ws he neva touchd subsidy cos he knws its a chain reaction dat hs a catastrophic endin... Badluck Jonathan is de worst president dis Country Hz seen
The new price of N141 is over a 100% increase. This is cruel... Removal of subsidy is no longer an issue here, but the price differential highlights the level of mindlessness of our so called leaders. Do these people live and lead in this country? I am amazed at their level of disconnection. For the civil populace, what next? Go to churches to pray, fast and wait for God to come down from heaven because of Nigeria, a country that had since been deserted by God. Pains my heart that Nigerians do not know the implications of the rot being perpetrated by our leaders. The unprogressive nature of Nigeria as a country had actually eroded the dignity, reputation and fortunes of the black race the world over, because we are the most populous black nation. If we do well as a nation it will reflect on other black nations and people. Due to lack of leadership Nigerians are all suffering everywhere around the globe. The largest population of African prisoners, prostitutes, asylum seekers, fraudsters etc in every major cities across the globe are Nigerians. Transformation is taking place in Arab nations, South America, Asia. When are we going to rise??? Nigerians have suffered too much as a people, this is the time to draw a line in the sand.... Boko Haram bad as they are is just an intro..............
Our Leaders and d various catels in dis country will not kill us o. To me d subsidy doesn't have any impact, if it does a litre of PMS shouldn't sell for 65naira in d first place...The service providers, have they really being sincere with d subsidy they ve been receiving from govt, we all know they ve not been considering d subsidy as they are selling at d cost price n just diverting d subsidy into their pocket to enrich themselves. But now they ll only increase PMS price to make up for d subsidy lost. NLC and other bodies need to know d actual cost of production to check these dubious marketers.
Its over hundred percent increment maam. thanks Jonathan. We do not like our new year gift.
In the midst of everything going on. Insecurity. Hike in school fees. Toll gates. Only God knows how this year would be. Woyld taxes be reduced? What a sad day for democracy!
God Please come n help us. Deliver us from every form of oppressions
Fuel Subsidy = Welcome into 2012, with Love from your President
How does Jonathan want people to survive for goodness sake? Does he really think its for the good of the country? What good????????? This is just ridiculous! With an ineffective transport system, second to none power supply, high prices of food and every other thing! Salaries aren't increasing either!!! God please help us. 2012 MUST be better than 2011.
What comment can one really drop here dat would be different from what u already said? From cost of petrol to high cost of transportation to food, raw materials, to high cost of services, shuld i even mention health? Artisans wuld become gods, policemen wuld increase their bribe, even beggars no go collect 5naira frm u again....shebi na if u even fit dash beggar d money. For some of us, d luxury of putting on d generator all will have to stop, ur car go on roster now..."Brt to work during d week, save ur fuel for weekend functions" the painful part of dis whole story is dat, come Jan 11, 2013, things will still b d same, if not worse. D roads will still b bad, dere will still b no steady power supply, no health care system...bla bla bla.. All d reasons for dis subsidy removal wuld not have been addressed. They wulda blown d money
God help us in dis country
E YIN OYINBO!!!! E WA FUN MI NI VISA!!!
God will surely punish dat useless man dat calls himself the President, instead of tryin to tackle Boko Haram he is thinkin of removin subsidy.....He shld expect more attacks frm Boko Haram and I am sure they will target that his Villa.Stupid Man
Lord have mercy on your children. See them through
Linda, i believe this your blog has gained a broad followership, i would suggest u become less biased when giving us the news and let your audience do the arguing. i believe you should also point out a few of the merits of this subsidy removal. if the advantages of this subsidy removal didnt outweigh the disadvantages on a longer term, i dont think Mr president would have taken this route. however, i still stand with you in voicing out the worsening state of insecurity in our country. I pray that something would be done soon by the authorities to stop this bloodshed.
Nice job anyways... am a huge fan
Yes GEJ can dare Nigerians cos he knows that majority of us are cowards, nothing we fit do! Imagine the nonsense they remove the subsidy without bothering to put in place alternatives to make it a bit bearable for the common man. There is no talk of building or rfixing exisiting refineries, no talk of where these monies will be diverted 2,instead they are talking about hoarding and making sure consumers get the products. Na wah. Fanatics pls when commenting leave God out of this issue for now biko!!
Did u score F9 in Maths in secondary school? How can N140 be 50% of N65?that a 100% plus maam...For those that voted for Jonathan and PDP,hope u are smiling now?
a lot of you have mouth now because Jona Jona is a christian president who is soft and not a dictator. All you running your mouth insulting this man, where were you when that monster Abacha was running your beloved naija to the ground? I remember that bastard had naijas so scared that even when my mom called from naija or any of my friends parents or siblings, we could not speak about Abacha or his regime and how he was destroying naijs. Now you all have guts. What a bunch of asswipes
He should hav atleast waited for peace to cum b4 removin subsidy abi linda?
Pls check out this site
www.abutalkon.blogspot.com #GOD bless yall
gudluck u no go die well, anu ohia
It is absolutely unfair for the government to do this. What do they intend to achieve, more frustration, more poverty, what? I hope they are well aware that times have changed (i.e. Arab Spring), people dont just sit and receive bad treatment, these days they fight back.
if jonathan will do this God ll surely punis him 4 dat!
chai, we ar in troble big troble in dis contry, WAYO ALLAH.
I know leaders always try to impose hardship on Nigerians and kill our dreams, but I also know that Nigerians' dreams cannot be killed. We will press on.
Look at what has happened in the past, Nigerians still took control of their destiny and have grown tremendously despite hardships (no thanks to the Government). Nigerians will push and press on despite the incompetence of this leadership.... We shall overcome this as we have always overcome other challenges. God is on our side
na waoh... this is serious... when will we ever hear any good news coming from nigeria??? from one bad news to the other... innocent nigerians paying the price... GOD HAVE MERCY ON MY COUNTRY NIGERIA.
ok lets see. . In the past one yr, the price of crude has gone up,while the
local currency the naira has depreciated in value Yet the price of petrol(PMS) has been held artificially steady at N65. Ladies and gentlemen this is no way to run an economy There is no incentive to conserve the use of fuel as prices rise no incentive to develop alternative sources of Energy, like EVs or SOLAR Think for a moment if the US Govt came out after the personal computer
was invented in 1980 and decided to intervene (and set prices)cause the
cost was to high for the masses, there would be no apple,HP,Microsoft and
all other IT innovators today that have brought down the price of a pc to
commodity status Again think for a moment, why subsidize fuel?.why not bread, cement,
drugs. etc,the whole subsidy game is a slippery slope, that the GOVT best
not get involved in. Cheap fuel is a license to non critical reasoning, thats why the Europeans
have huge taxes on fuel,so mass transport can bloom, the environment
saved, and alternative energy developed. Nigerians say they have Crude in their backyard so PMS should be cheap,
but can they refine the crude by themselves without importing machines
made elsewhere?, can we build a refinery without outside help?,if the
answer in no we cant, then we dont deserve cheap fuel. Let us get innovative for once, build this economy into a knowledge based
one,and stop this laziness of the brain and body that we exhibit time after
time so yea am for subsidy removal, perhaps it will clear our cities of okada, and
instead have us build trains, trams and subways perhaps the next great invention like a car that runs on water or air will
come from Nigeria. . who knows. .
The removal of the subsidy is the only way Nigeria can move forward. The country is hugely unproductive and so relies heavily on petrodollars for its sustenance and largely fir foreign exchange. Linda if u had done u homework u wld have known that the full functioning of our refineries would not solve the problem. Nigeria needs at least 5 refineries of 100000 gallons capacity in each to sustain it's local consumption. Unfortunately the leaders are fools and would remain so and nigerians have always accepted it. Which fool exports its raw material and buys it back refined? Only a giant...you know who
D gud thing about subsidy removal is dat it cuts across all tribes, religion and pple.tank God we r united on dis one.we dont want it&we wont take it!!!
you guyz kip wondering why we are killing each other abii ? imagine someone who cannot boost of 200naira at the end of the month is given 200naira evryday,he will kill his own father if the benefactor tells him to do so.everything comes bck to poverty and badluck jona is making it worse
i still do not understand dis people....doin dis d nature should note dat dis will surely lead to more crime.......government should not dat dey did not just increased fuel but everytin....God na ur hand we dey look help us all
So, is it Boko haram dat is wrecking dis malicious havoc called 'forced removal of fuel subsidy' on Nigerians, or are they the one dat blew up the refineries that are not working. Then again, when asked during the live debate on NTA last week, Badluck Jonathan said and I quote 'the issue of fuel subsidy removal has been discussed at the last PDP members meeting and it's been agreed dat it's the best thing for nigeria, I mean we need to create jobs'. Foolish Ignorant prick i say. I dnt support Boko haram at all but I wonder and continue to ponder wat it will take to get us Nigerians to face up to the really of wat we have done to ourselves? Corruption has gotten so obese now, u need to be a civil servant to see the rate of last minute end of the year fictitious syphoning of national funds. It's so pathetic. Such bunch of fools we are as a people that collective interest sounds like a strange phase due to gross inborn selfish interest of our fathers, grandfathers and ourselves. My heart is done weeping for Nigeria. Sooooo saaad!
Nigeria is heading for destruction. Imagine how we are being welcome into 2012.
i am so pissed off right now.
welldone mr president. nice one!***in a sarcastic voice***
NAIJA GO BETTER WHEN I BCOME PRESIDENT.
NAIJA GO BETTER WHEN I BECOME PRESIDENT.
omfd!!!! this is effing ridiculous!
I dont understand this New Year Rehoboam scorpion gift.
Now,during the Lagos NPAN-organised debate, I got the impression the implementation of this removal thing will take effect on April 1st.
Now PMS for N150? I comment my reserve..
ok...am off to buy my bicycle.
The masses will bear the brunt of this wickedness
What more can I say! Nigeria, my once beautiful country is on the verge of self destruction..This single action GEJ h
GEJ is really clueless. Since he came into power, he has added to the burdens of nigerians. Bombing has been in vogue since he came into power. Now increasing fuel subsidy would def increase robbery and other vices as transport cost and living cost increases. GEJ your judgement day is coming sooner than you think...mscheww
I pray this what it takes to break the camels back. Nigerians it is time to take our country back from these theiving mad Politicians selected to rule us. We need our very own Jerry Rawlings to lead us. My fellow Nigerians how can we fear death when we are already dead?! We Southerners,Northerners,Christians & Muslims must ALL unite to fight these politicians by saying no more! We must stand united & fight/ kill them together. If we do not what will our children inherit?
Linda,
I re-watched the Lagos debate on fuel subsidy removal on channels tv
http://channelstv.com/global/videos.php?vid_shows=xcli_95
And Femi Falana summed it up nicely, there is nothing the federal government can do or say, they CANNOT BE TRUSTED. No matter the nice and logical sounding arguments, they make promises they have no intention or will to keep! history gives us evidence: SAP, privatisation, tollgates. If they really meant well, why did they not reduce cost of governance? why did he not build refineries before the removal? why did they not implement laws that they promised in the past?
More importantly, what are we going to do about this. action time. the ball is now in our court...
Truth said.....all those in power in this country mismanaging this country and stealing from the people should allllllll go to jail. Nigerian people have suffered sha. Nothing works in this forsaken country. A very sad legacy indeed
Hi Linda
No complaining!!!!!
I am sorry, you guys there are "mumu"
God has done everything for you but waiting for you to act.
Take to the street.
Even his brother IBB, can't withstand us then.
Act!
Act!!
Act!!!
Copy North African countries.
I have nothing to say about the current Nigerian administration. This is the worst administration Nigeria has experienced in a long time. The leaders are very useless.
This is the best thing to happen to Nigeria. I know a lot of people will be shocked bey what I have just written. But believe me, a few greedy, rogues are the ones reaping the gains of the subsidies all these while. Removing the subsidy will transfer the gain into the pocket of the government who is expected to use it to provide necessary infrastructure for the populace. With this, the people can hold the government liable and ask for what the gain is used for in another year. See, my people, we need to move on and stop these canals and oil companies from reaping us off. The likes of Femi Otedola and co are smiling to the banks everyday in fact they are laughing wholeheartedly to the banks at the expense of our poor people. If you visit Dubai today, you will be shocked at what the country has been turned into. Nigerians are running there for solace. But how much more can we run? The government needs to be forced to sit up like that of Dubai and even emerging economies like Thailand, Singapore and co. Enough of the suffering.
All they were doing is that they were giving the populace peanuts in place of what they truly deserve. It will be tough at first, but the overall result will be heart warming and will improve the socio political lives of the people.
Let us open our eyes to the truth and force the government to be responsible to the people.
this is just sad. his name should be badluck not goodluck cause nigeria is just getting worse.
God punish dia papa,Goodluck&Allison Madueke
We are finally finished! So dis is deir new yrs gift to us! Im just thinkin abt hw the poor wud survive and this hurts so much cos all d DOGS in govt have more funds to squander. If they explain from now till thy kingdom come to me why deyre doing this, ill never see reasons with them ah! This is sooo terrible I wish Nigerians wud just cme out today in heavy protest(shey dt dog sed he is ready for whatever) and that jonathan sha is such a stooge! Who are those sons of babylon giving him that kind of advice sef *rme* if only i could do something and be heard! But no one takes a 20yr old *girl* seriously kmt.
Sucks!
This country is finished. Linda, something is going to happen in this country very soon; a coup, war, protest, more bombings, I can't place my finger on what it is, but something terrible. Quote me.
Fred
C'mon. it's not the end of the world. If your business now cost's you twice as much, increase the price of what you're selling.
I think governors too should expand their roads to accomodate bicycles cos me I don't mind.
It's funny cos even some countries that don't produce oil have subsidy. Which ever way, I'm cool with it.
These are signs that the end is near, all the wrong things are being prioritised (e.g Boko Haram being taken lightly) and national robbery and deprivation continues to take place in broad day light. The rich get richer whilst the poor stay poor...even if these are all old cliche news, like the message that the end is near-repent, the fact is one of the two will hit harder and by then, it might be too late for any of us. It's a constant struggle but we have to always seek our heavenly creators face in the midst of all this. The good book says blessed are the meek and as God's children we will experience hardship but we need to learn to encourage ourselves in the Lord for our Father lives and is always more than able. This world that seems to be our all now will one day be like a neighborhood we once lived in, Life in itself is a phase. We as Nigerians and Africans need to take heart and stop allowing ourselves to be used by evil, from the government to our yahoo boys. As we see through news like this, there's only so much we can control in our everyday lives in terms of what is imposed on us so the state of our souls and whom we give it to is all we can fully control. It takes more than giving tithes every Sunday, spending your new years in church or asking the pastor to pray for you just like it takes more than a man called Goodluck to bring any real luck to our beloved Nigeria. We should all pray for others as well as ourselves and ask how we can serve God and not always dwell on how he can reward us. Bottom line is Nigerians are well known to be fervent, maybe even aggressive in our Christian beliefs so the vision is there, we just tend to loose our sense of direction and lack a well-structured and consistent order. Greed is what's crippling Nigeria. May God continue to help us all.
i prayed to God years back,.........father i do not want a job, a car or any material thing except a visa to God's own country........after 19 yrs God answered that prayer...
i wake in this blessed land everyday without fear,...i sleep without fear........
l told my friends that even if i get a job with a salary of N350,000 i will never desire to live in this country....i may be coming in once in a while but not to live in nigeria.......
i saw what this nation would look like 20yrs ago....i told my friends my only prayer....the wise ones took my advice and now they breath fresh air of life....they may not have all the money in the world but atleast they have some security in the countries that they are living in..........
i drive smoothly here in houston texas without any dust punching in my eyes and ears,....i eat 3 square meals...what else.......do i want in life
nigerians have worked so hard people like linda...but what do they get from the government,...insecurity, unemployment...lack of basic amenities all over........
south africa may have tried, even ghana....but africa is a total shame.....
Dear Linda,
Its a shame that removal of fuel subsidy has become the so-called remedy prescribed by president Gridlock Johnathan for the sixth largest oil producing country in the world.To provoke your thoughts further, here is a poetic article titled "Patriotic Response-Ability;
These so-called leaders with their undying love for money
Are not only draining our economy of its milk & honey
But are also reducing our rich and fertile lands
To mere crumbs of fruitless sands
See how they change and treat our constitutions like prostitutes
In order to suite their self-fish pursuits
An without regard for the people’s need
Their corrupt deeds breeds greed upon greed
Now all over the world ours is a sad story
Because they’ve chosen to celebrate and compensate vain glory
Indeed it’s really painful to know that they derive pleasure
From looting all that we truly treasure
Therefore time is ripe enough for an inspirational revolution
And rather than just complaining I will become a solution
By empowering many people through my intellectual capacity and capability
Despite being deprived of enabling platforms to showcase my patriotic responsibility
Quote to Ponder
“A leader’s personality and authority are greatly diminished when he fails to realize that he was called upon and authorized by his people not only to lead but also to serve them.”- D.C

Jonathan is really wishing Nigerians Happy New year with Oil subsidy removal... When speaking to the nation, He often refer to us as fellow compatriots , but will never call us fellow in his food, allowances and income, My own anger is that their children are not in the country so they are allowing the poor masses to suffer... Any way.. IT IS WELL, EVEN IN THE WELL,
The sad thing about this, is there will be no change to amenities and the standard of life.
If Nigerians expected a change, the subsidy removal wanted be so infuriating. I'm totally incensed.
Lord my prayer for Nigeria is for a government with a conscience. Things are falling apart. *tears*
if u voted GEJ & not pdp just show ur voters card @ filling station & get petrol @ subsidized rate of 65 naira per litre. those who did not vote GEJ will buy @ new rate of of 141 per litre. MUMUS! next time when u vote, u wont vote based on sentiments. by the way Nigerian new minimum wage is = tank of petrol! goodluck 4 u! goodluck 4 me! goodluck 4 everybody!
Dont mind GEJ he wants only the rich to live in nigeria-forgetting where he came from.
I'm literally at a loss for words. These people are slowly destroying Nigeria!
May God help us!
lol, badluck dey try o.asuu neva gree, boko haram neva gree,nw na fuel mata?e beta make them bomb naija, make we al rest na.
Bt he said d removal of subsidy will b effective in april why nw? GEJ & his economic team ar clueless about d pressure & tension nigerians ar facing. 9ja reject dis madness.
This is unfair. Hw can the poor masses survive. President Goodluck no president badluck cos all wat u are giving nigeria is badluck since ur regime. God help us
This is Just unfair Very unfair.. Especially to the poor now death rates would increase :(.. I always hated this johnathan guy with is stupid badluck

This fisherman called Egbere Joe-Lantern is hell bent on seeing all of us without shoes like he claimed he use to be. We must not allow him and his IMF cronies that sponsored his election to succeed.
This must be an all out war.
KILL THEM ALL. LETS START THE REVOLUTION NOW!!!MASSES GET UP AND LETS DESTROY THESE ENEMIES OF THE MASSES...
This fisherman called Egbere Joe-Lantern is hell bent on seeing all of us without shoes like he claimed he use to be. We must not allow him and his IMF cronies that sponsored his election to succeed.

Linda this news is very dishearthening. How can a responsible govt take this kind of decision and just slam it on us like we r dummies and ve no right. R we in a military regime? They can't remove subsidy wen there are no viable alternatives. If we had 24hrs light, good roads and excellent transportation with trains and oda mass transit facilities that have been subsidised, then they can remove the subsidy and we won't complain. But now everything would double in price and we are still on the same ol' salaries o. Enough is enough. We nid a change NOW. Jonathan has to get his act together or get out. Where is the NLC and y r they not doin anything? Our jounalist nko? The various youth associations? God help us.
We are the architect of our own problem and i dont know how long we are still going be on "Sidon dey look" it is just a matter of time, we are going to adjust as time goes on.
We are all Nigerians and we knew how things being runned by those called looters not leaders, all wot they care for is their immediate families and their self enrichment. National assembly publicised the name of those companies benefited from subsidy money and hardly u could hear any step being taken on how to recollect the money but they now want masses to reap wot they did not sow and only time will tell. If it is a country that Govt hv the love for their masses, it would hv been easier for citizen to reason with the Govt but we all know that the money will go to their pocket again as usual
GOD will punish u badluck...shit 141naira we dor die o
FGN successfully removes the refractive, massively corrupt #subsidy on gasoline.

Congrats FGN!
Congrats Nigerians!!
Long Live FRN!!!
@ Anonymous !st comment.
IT is A 100%+ increase. price was N65.
@ orange really? this isnt a nation of 1million people. its 160 million!!!
they must think through before making descisions. its about time Nigerian leaders actually took descisions that are in the interest of the masses. they dont care about paying 13,000 for a full tank of fuel. they dont care that chicken will be 2k each in the market and thet dont care that millions that travelled home for the holidays are left stranded because the N5000 naira transport fare they saved up for all year has now been increased by N8000. If they want to start saving Nigeria some money, they should cut down the money they pay themselves. what sort of country budgets Capital Expenditure: N1.32 Trillion and
Recurrent (non debt) Expenditure: N2.472 Trillion? and spends more on debt financing than on education or even the fact that NASS is budgeting 14billion to travel & etc? if you want to save Nigeria some money, cut down the waste. cut down NASS's pay and plug all the leakage. Dont take it out on the masses Mr Presido.....ah ahn...
What do you expect. Where there is no VISION my people are destroyed. Also when the head is bad it'll definitely affect the other parts of the body....unfurtunately the poor are the most affected. Come to think of it!i've never witnessed in the History of Nigeria this high rate Militancy, Bombings, Clashes, Robbery attacks,Removal of Fuel Subsidy etc. My question is are we really ripe for DEMOCRACY?
People instead of focusing on linda's math i think u guys should focus on the issue her. This moron of a president deared you nigerians and all u can do is sit in front of ur com. and talk about 50-100-200-3000%. geez Nigerians wake up and fight for ur country. No one is gonna do it except you grow some balls.
Lets just pray and watch cus nothing pass GOD........ And pls make una leave linda alone oh.... And try re‘read her statement pls...HNY laughprince
Let us meet at Eagle square. All this noise must be backed with Action. It has nothing to do with your region or religion. LETS OCCUPY EAGLE SQUARE NOW!!!!
Omg even if Linda Miscalculated is that the point? That's how we Nigerians leave what's important and face irrelevant issues, instead of thinking on how we as an individual can solve problems in d country all we do is criticize people and things that don't really matter, we all need to grow up gosh! Very painful
linda, u know nothing abt ruling a nation so shut it.

Please follow @portraitnigeria on twitter to know why Dame P. Jonathan should be given more credit later today.
It is a pity because these ppl are NOT sincere. Nigerians will never see any benefits from this removal. Diesel was deregulated, nothing came to Nigerians from it. They are SELFISH and only care for themselves. Jonathan can not deliver, he has no liver.
This is really incredible.i just don't accept this.imagine how happy they will be.eating from the mass pocket.that's their trouble.
Linda 'said' 100+ increase, so what is the problem? It means over 100%. We can't all be good at all subjects.
@motheroffour, does it mean that all Edo people are supporting Oshiomole's stance on the removal of fuel subsidy? I dey laff o.
A mother of four future "jaguda" children, please shut up. Make we hear word joor! If you are rich and can afford the increase we can't.
A car was snatched at early hours of this morning at gun point. The owner screamed, "MY FUEL"
People, stay safe. Protect your car. Cars are being robbed just for the fuel. It's not a laughing matter o.
so glad i didn't vote for him! my conscience so clear! People who voted for him her regretting it! agreed with what bakare said; IS ONLY FOOLS THAT WOULD VOTE IN A STUPID PEOPLE IN! people ranted, but is it not true today?? was listening to soludo one night giving the reasons why subsidy should be removed, but they forget when 2 elephants fight, it's the grass that suffers it all! no doubt it would definitely have a multiplying effect, but the rich would not be affected because they would simply increase the number of ghana-must -go -bags that they share among themselves! so our rights to good infrastructural facilities is now a privilege to be paid for through our noses abi? toll gate palaver also dey for ground o! God help the poor masses like me!
We should be expecting nation wide strike. I read on channels tv news bar that NLC is mobilizing.
OYB, I see you.
Beaf go pursue you come here o!
Like i said earlier, the day Boko Haram bomb national assembly or Aso rock is the day i will seek an application form and join that terrorist group.
I am a Christian but i will willingly join them the day they stop killing innocent poor folks and target this clowns in power.
GEJ, why not first of all rdeuce the cost of running ur govt wich is the most expensive democracy in the whole world, then u cn b talking of removeing fuel subsidy. U and ur executives feed on billion of naira while the masses feed on less than a dollar per day no light, no hospitals, no refineries, everything has been taking away frm the masses to feed the elite, send their children abroad, for their wifes to buy diamond while the masses suffer. who will help us?
"50% + increase" is also very mathematically correct so all you so called I TOO KNOW 'mathematicians' should take note...; The '+' in '50%+ increase' implies that the increment is greater than 50% & this is mathematically true.
However from the perspective of informative communication, this is poor journalism as it misleads us to subconsciously think that the increment is not that severe...
Now enough of the jargons & back to the main point - Its just a pity that our leaders don't really understand the dynamics of our economy, & know when to apply certain measures... The removal of the subsidy is not bad, but the timing is outrageous! Basic amenities are not in place & we're still trying to get over the terrorist attacks and now this??? Its a shame...
LAHLA u are a very big fool. pls shut ur gutter mouth. am sure u are a child of the thieves in jonathan's cabinet.it will not be well with that ur mouth
This ✉ is now circulating: Note: BC n Pings on my wall is NOT FREE anymore. It now costs N50 to post a BC, N20 to Ping, N5 to view n copy my DP; since it now costs me N140/litre to fuel my G£n£rator inorder to charge my phone to read your BC n Pings... Thanks for your cooperation...... Did I mention N10 per month as long as u have me on ur friends list? Am sorry its not my fault, its JonaSIDY
Ok the subsidy maybe be good if the government actually build the refineries but if they don't nigeria is doomed I tell u....but its evil 4him 2jst start the subsidy 1st ting in a new year shud av waitin till april naw. Also why not sort out alternatives b4 applying the subsidy cuz all I can tink about is those pple wo already live in absolute poverty this will drive dem deeper in2 poverty with everyting on the increase how will they survive. We all need 2start tinkin of a way to save our country if we wanna see change den it starts from u as an individual fst. I pray that God will help us and crown our efforts.
Furthermore to those idiots on twitter talkin bout we nigerians shudnt complain fstly are u nigerian av u even been 2nigeria av u seen the pple dat are already poor, pple like u av no mercy 4d poor n u call urself born again christians I hail u!
Goats !!!
Y'all still don't know cheeky Linda by now?!
Knowing her, she most likely put the figures there to bang your heads together. She's definitely laughing at all of by now. Anyway, I don't care if the Maths are wrong or right.
I'm just pissed off at Linda for not blogging in Chinese. Here in Beijing, many Chinese people want to enjoy the jists on this blog, but their English is as good as Linda's Chinese language ability. Linda, how come you don't speak Chinese?
O Jonathan you have more trouble than just meet the eyes!
This is serious o! Linda if you have not heard! The boko-haram has declare state of Emergency! Read it here- Breaking News: Boko Haram Gives 3-day Ultimatum for Christians to Vacate the North!
linda please share this to your massive readers! Please...
@people that support fuel aubsidy removal, please answer me this? Is this the time to remove the subsidy? Who and what comprise this imaginary cabal enjoying the fuel aubsidy? Did obasanjo not deregulate this same oil industry? Refinery they refused to build and they are importing oil.
at the end of January come back and tell us whether or not you are still happy with the removal.
Na only you people know the kool aid you were given to drink. Who was it that said i freed a thousand slaves, I would have freed a thousand more if they knew they were slaves...
shioo
@lalah: under Abacha $1`= N84 and fuel was N11 ooooo before u too start running your mouth
I don't know why some people feel that this increase will affect only the poor badly. I am relatively comfortable but this increase will affect all of us terribly. God will punish all the sadists in power. The multiplier effect`will affect us all apart from the thieves in govt who simply feed fat on free money.
School fees, food stuff, transportation costs, cost of running our alternative power supply, workers demanding for higher pay etc.... How on earth will I cope?
GEJ this, GEJ that. All talk and no action! Nigerian youths, am making this potentially historical appeal today: let's rise up, plan and protest. These cabals will stop at nothing to further destroy Nigeria. We are the change. We are here. Let us not allow temporary fears put permanent cuffs on our hands.
So, are there Nigerian youths out there willing to risk all for a better Nigeria? I am willing. Shoot me a mail (chromiumplus@yahoo.com) and let's start strategizing to gather resources to launch. It is here. It is NOW!!
Jonathan you are a darling. X0X0. God bless nigeria. E go better. My fellow subsidies leave this blog and go lament n protest outside, for once die for what u believe in then change will come, linda cant save u, and wont buy ur fuel!
Jonathan can officially remove subsidies to our confirmation only on the condition that patience can pronounce removal of subsidy 10 times wout ibon-ing!
I THINK WHAT NIGERIANS SHOULD DO IS TO UNITE AS ONE AND STOCK UP THEIR PANTRIES AND ALL SHOULD STAY AT HOME IN PROTEST OF THIS OIL SUBSIDY REMOVAL. WHEN THE WHOLE NATION COMES TO A STANDSTILL MAYBE GEJ WILL RECONSIDER THE 100% INCREASE IN PMS!!!
Please do not blame Linda for her F word. She only displayed her passion towards her country Nigeria.
It's about time we take the fight to the looters of our great country Nigeria.
Nigerian youths; this is a shame! Why have you been misguided? A matter as serious as fuel subsidy removal, which has the potential of changing our lives for THE WORST this year, is being joked about. Our social media that's supposed to be an instrument of change & an avenue for us to reject oppression & corruption with one voice; is now a playground. We would rather fold our arms & expect God to come down from heaven to change our situation. We can't continue like this! We need to arise & ensure that our country is not destroyed. We need to build a Nigeria that our children & children's children will be proud of. Join the movement. Say NO to fuel subsidy removal!!!
sincerely speaking, dis is a very very sad isshh, reading everyone's comment one after the other and realized that few people saw the light.......the answer to this problem is "REVOLUTION". That is the only way outta this.
Boko haram av failed their major assignment(i.e bombing the so called powerful n not the innocent citizens of this country)
We gained independence through the British colony and this country has gained nothing from them......dts way too sad, i must confess. Democracy doesn't mean to make ones masses suffer now, other countries practicing it are not "suffering"
This government cannot n will not make we youth n d future leaders suffer in this country, so, i am very serious about the revolution thingy n down at anytime to take action on this isshhh......u can reach me annboga@yahoo.co.uk
Let's give GEJ benefit of d doubt b4 dissecting him.no doubt d effect of d removal will be harsh but if that's d sacrifice we can make now 4 a better 2moro I'll gladly support d president
@Annon January 2, 2012 2:03 PM
wetin consine Linda with Chinco? This blog is to keep Nigerians updated on things happening in Nigeria and beyond and not to keep chinco updated.
THE PERSON THAT SAID GENERATORS USES DIESEL AND NOT PETROL IS CLUELESS .THE HIGH NUMBER OF NIGERIANS ARE USING PETROL NOT DIESEL.THE RICH MAN USES DIESEL AND MIDDLE CLASS AND I BETTER PASS MY NEIGHBOR USES PETROL.
Is it Goodluck who caused this? meet ibb and obj and protest for the money they stole..Goodluck is trying to target this people and the cartels.stop being ignorant and see..its just unfortunate these wicked people are using average Nigerians as a shield in other to cont their greedy act..Goodluck should increase salarys thats all and others should meet these people,,you all know them and request your money back.stop blaming Goodluck.. fight for you rights
Nigerians talk a lot, so much talk without action. Our irresponsible Government had already weighed the impact and are very confident that we would just make a lot of noise and finally readjust. As Fela had rightfully said "Suffering & Smiling".
abeg who knows where I can get inverters in Abuja pls this is ASAP
thanks
@ Anon 9.20pm. You are indeed daft. Not all generators use diesel. Majority of Nigerians use petrol generators especially your small business owners. On one hand, they say they want to promote SMEs. On the other, they remove the very thing that supports them. Especially as the government has failed to provide power!!
Linda stop the F word, subsidy removal is good for the progress of nigeria, the only way we can be a better nation, only few reaps the benefit, am a uk base economist and banker and i know how much some of these few transfers to their account each month here in london.
@Anonymous January 3, 2012 12:24 AM
The Chinese whatever was 100% made up / a joke. Relax or buy a sense of humor. BTW, Linda Ikeji is learning Chinese. By this summer, she will only blog in Chinese.
