mtchew some LIB readers lack proper reasoning. Really what does apportioning blame do right now? mumu instead of y'all to join hands and fight the one enemy , y'all are blaming the nollywood celebrities. lemme tell u that all those nigerian celebrities vote couldnt have singlehandedly put GEJ into power. So better shut it and leave behind all ur differences and fight together. united we stand, divided we fall. Most of you throwing insults actually voted for GEJ the only diffeence is that u r not in the limelight.
P.s i didnt vote for GEJ and i dont fault those that did. GEJ was decietful as they always are. fake promises and all.

A lot of people who comment on this blog can be daft and clueless. So what, if some of these stars initially voted for GEJ? We all believe in our party elect and expect that person to deliver. If they do not hold true to their words then we have the freedom to speak about our disappointments. Do u know how many stars in america are strongly condemning president Obama now becos they believe his policies is part of what is causing the recession but these same stars campaigned with their own personal monies for him when he was running for president. I personally think people should give this subsidy a few months. It is however very unfrotunate that the change is just too drastic for the average nigerian to afford. Gej may mean well afterall. If people die and suffer becos of it, then all their bloods will be on his head but people speaking against their choice for president is not new in any country so free banky, seun and don J. These linda bloggers comments can be so ignorant and stupid. Clueless individuals

Mr paul. I am beginning to have second thots. This subsidy will definitely beneft naija but this is in the future. There is so much to fix now and a lot CAN BE FIXED if the govt would stop looting. Can the president pls concentrate on these things that are important amenities and what will let us live close to a normal life as possible!

See them ... Look at them ... Jobless, misguided and ill-informed people. Ha! Na wa for Naija people.

This protest is unforgivably cringe-worthy and deeply embarrassing. Nigeria needs to be developed and grow. Naija is and must never be a nanny state. 99.9% of the so called protesters know nothing about economics or the economy.

The "protesters are 100% clueless to the overwhelming advantages for the removal of oil subsidy.

Northerners and oil companies are using you Nigerians, even in your meaningless "protests" - y'all are working for FREE for them. Trade Unions and the Organisers got paid truckloads of money. Y'all got jack shit.

10 years from now, all of will bury your heads in shame for protesting against something that is for the best interest of the Nigerian economy and Nigerians.

You all need to wake up. Please, educate yourselves - get knowledge / get practical wisdom.

Do your research and you will agree that what President Goodluck Jonathan  is doing is well meaning, the right thing and will massively pay off in the long term for the economy and the country.

A lot of you might not agree with me, but I speak the truth and will always speak the truth. I don't kiss arse, don't draw conclusion on anything I know nothing about and I don't follow the crowd.

Now, if you attack my comment, you have a special place in HELL :(

Mr Paul and all the proponents of removal of subsidy, the question is what has this govt done with all the money from crude oil exports? Its in their pocket and thats where the money from subsidy removal will go. The senators earn more than the american president, our president spent lots of money on election and funding trips for his wife to buy jewelry while lots of people don't have food to eat in the country!

Kemikal said...

If you heard, believe, feel or think that the removal of oil subsidy is wrong, your belief is not based on facts or the truth.

The TRUTH is the TRUTH, not your belief or the deliberately misleading information you were fed. What's true in this oil subsidy debate is the TRUTH, not your income, financial situation, emotion or feeling.

Oil subsidy is GONE, forever. Happy days !!!

Long Live My Homeland !!!

Long Live The Federal Republic of Nigeria !!!

The removal of fuel subsidy SHOULD benefit nigeria in the long run, but we Nigerians are afraid that after life is made difficult for us, the money will enter our corrupt politicians pockets.
Over the years why haven't we built refineries?, why didn't government remove the subsidy gradually?, why is GEJ spending 1billion naira on food when he claims the country is broke?
If FG wants the fuel subsidy removed, they should cut down their unnecessary spending, reduce the jumbo salaries of the senators et al, then we as citizens will understand that we are really broke indeed.
I believe if these things were done, no protests wud av taken place

Long term thinking is the key to understand the reason behind the removal of oil subsidy. Short term measures are not the best solutions in solving Nigeria's economic problems. The government has taken the right step. Next, eliminate corrupt politicians and corrupt public servants, police officers and the sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria. Hang them till they're dead and seize their assets.

@kemikal: you are already in hell with your ignorance. Your last statement just shows that you know nothing and you're copping out. If you have your facts at hand, you would not be afraid of anyone refuting your comment.

Please you have access to the internet, read and educate yourself and stop drinking jonathan kool aid. Please tell me what Jonathan has done to earn our trust? Have you read the 2012 budget? Read and see how much is going to go on govt overhead. Those in govt can enjoy but Nigerians are the ones to suffer and make sacrifices yea?

Okonjo etc say there is a cabal, Jonathan says there is no cabal, that they are businessmen... So who are the cabal and oil companies that the money is going to?
Tam David West has come out to say there is no subsidy. Where are the govt officials to refute that claim?

Even the IMF directive that they are following suggests that measures have to be put in place before subsidies are removed. Where are the measures?
While we are at it please give me 5advantages of the removal of this so called fuel subsidy.

Thus madam/sir economy and economics please educate we fellow olodo nigerians that know nothing about the economy

To Kemikal and all the people claiming this removal is for the best, could you please explain? cos I don't see how making things worse is supposed to be a good thing or helping anyone no matter how you try to put it. The truth of the matter is Nigeria is one of the largest oil producing nations, which means we should be refining our own oil, making it available for everyone at a much lower rate. The fact also remains that there some people in power that will and conticue to gain from this mishap. Nigeria,am sorry to say is going down and until God himself intervenes and Nigeria splits...everything is just gonna get worse.

before we talk about long term benefits or whatever english these idiotic leaders want to use in fooling us,how can nigerians trust a govt that deceived us ino thinking they were still in talks with our 'REPRESENTATIVES'about the removal of subsidy when it was already a sealed deal?that alone is a sign that GEJ wants to play again and use this money to re-imburse those who sponsored hi campaign.i rest my case. what we need is corruption removal!

grace said...

we all know thatt would benefit us in the long run but there are so many unanswered questions...
*why dont we build refineries in nigeria and refine the crude oil in nigeria instead of exporting crude oil and importing the finished product?
*Why is it that the government did not reduce spending on electricity, security, bla bla bla.. since we are not seeing what the money is used for as electricity is still not there, no water, no good roads, etc
I certainly know that the money realised from removing the fuel subsidy will be diverted else where...bloody thieves.

God is watching...The bible says: Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not go unpunished!!

I don't understand why people are attacking celebrities who apparently voted for Jonathan before. He's not their father so they owe him no loyalty. If you think someone will make a change you vote for them. If you find out you don't like their politics you you speak against them, simple. Also, the subsidy removal would be easier to swallow if we knew it would better the economy. In theory it should help the economy, in theory toll gate fees should help the economy, but we know where the money will go in the end.

Most of you are big fools, subsidy removal is good but not right now. What alternative do we have?? this is the only thing we are benefiting as citizens. What is GEJ giving up for us??? he has budgeted 1 billion naira for food this year for him self and sambo aside many other allowance. Let face it this man is wicked.

You thing what he is going now is right because maybe you are in position to afford the new price, think of the many people that can even afford a cup of rice weekly.

SEE, THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE IT. 'FUEL SUBSIDY' IS THE BIGGEST FRAUD IN THIS COUNTRY AND THATS A FACT. A FEW INDIVIDUALS HAVE BEEN COLLECTING THIS MONEY (OVER N1TRILLION) CLAIMING TO HAVE IMPORTED FUEL INTO THIS COUNTRY MEANWHILE, THE FUEL HAS GONE TO GHANA OR BENE. THE ONLY EVIDENCE TO SHOW IS ONE SIGNATURE ON A SHEET OF PAPER THAT THE SHIP ARRIVED THE PORT. WAKE UP! SOME EMPTY IDIOTS HAVE BECOME BILLIONAIRES OVERNIGHT WITH YOUR 'FUEL SUBSIDY'. WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE THAT CABAL SIPHONING YOUR RESOURCES SO LONG AS YOU CAN BUY FUEL AT N65?

THAT BEING SAID, SINCE JONATHAN CLAIMS WE ARE BROKE, HE SHOULD CHIP IN HIS OWN 2 CENTS - ALL THOSE IRRELEVANT FOREIGN TRIPS WITH IRRELEVANT SPECIAL ADVISERS/ASSISTANTS SHOULD BE CUT OFF THE BUDGET. ALLOWANCES OF ALL SENATORS/HONOURABLES, ETC MUST BE SLASHED. THEY CANT STAY IN ALL THAT COMFORT AND HAVE THE COMMON THAT IS ALREADY STARVING TO BEAR THIS 100 PERCENT.

AS FOR THESE CELEBS COMING OUT TO PROTEST, THEY ARE FAR BETTER THAN ALL THE PEOPLE ON THIS BLOG SITTING IN FRONT OF THEIR COMPUTERS TO TYPE CRAP. ANY PROTEST IN NIGERIA IS RISKY, ANYTHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO THEM EVEN IF ITS BEING TEARGASSED. ASK OKADIGBO.... OH, I FORGOT, MOST OF THE PEOPLE ON THIS BLOG WOULDNT EVEN HAVE A CLUE WHO THAT IS...

SO BANKY'S SINGLE VOTE, OR DON JAZZY'S ONE VOTE WAS WHAT PUT GEJ IN ASO ROCK? LINDA YOUR READERS ARE JUST CLUELESS SHA...

By Ini Ekott and Emmanuel Ogala
Taxpayers will spend a fortune feeding the president and his deputy next year
The Federal Government plans to spend approximately N1 billion in feeding.
The president and his deputy will together enjoy N992.57 million worth of food and general catering services in 2012.
According to a detailed analysis of the N4.749trillion budget the cost of purchasing food stuffs, catering supplies, kitchen equipments for the president and his vice, and their offices, will cost the nation N992.57 million, about N7 million away from a billion naira.
Lawmakers have already questioned the huge allocation of nearly a fourth of the budget to security, and the still high recurrent cost.
The estimate indicates that of the N18.34 billion budgeted for the State House, about N1billion would be spent on providing food for the president's household as well as that of his deputy.
A further breakdown shows that taxpayers would have to cough out approximately N477million to pay for foodstuffs and “catering materials supplies” for the president's office. The taxpayers, most of which are poor and frustrated, will have to fork out an additional N293 million to provide "refreshment and meals" for the president's comfort at his home and office.
Yet, an additional N45.4 million would be needed to buy canteen and “kitchen equipment” for the president's household, although similar purchases were made last year.
For the vice president’s office, the foodstuff, catering and materials supplies are to cost N104 million, while cooking gas and cooking fuel will consume N6.2 million.
Refreshments and meals at Mr. Sambo’s office and home are estimated at N20.8million. Then separately, another N45.4 million has been allocated for purchase of kitchen and household equipment at the state house headquarters.
At N70,000 a month, the N1billion budgeted for presidential feeding would pay the wages of 1,200 Nigerians for a year.
"It is a continuation of the 'food is ready' culture," says Osita Okechukwu, spokesperson of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP). "These guys don't care about what happens to the common man. For them it is grab, grab, grab. What will they be eating that should cost that amount in a country with high unemployment , poverty and disease?"
The one billion naira feeding bill reflects the contradictions that have attended national budgets yearly, with government on one hand emphasizing its intention to limit overhead cost, and on the other, spearheading some of the most outrageous spending. Notorious for being overloaded with running costs, federal budgets for decades have hardly catered for developmental projects, and where allocations are made for infrastructural development, the projects are hardly ever executed.
President Jonathan has acknowledged that problem in our budgeting system, and has repeatedly announced his administration’s commitment to lowering running cost in favour of more development projects and job creation.
"This administration will promote job creation and inclusive growth by investing in critical infrastructure, human capital development and security, including more support for the police, defence and counter-terrorism operations,” the president told lawmakers last week during the budget presentation.
But while the commitment remains, at least orally, the president’s first constituency, the state house - including his office and residences as well as those of the deputy - has remained one of the top spenders of Nigeria's scarce resources.
THIS IS A REMINDER FOR THOSE GIVING FOOLISH COMMENTS ON LIB! PLS GO AND DO MORE RESEARCH AND STOP BABBLING!!!

The truth is that if govt. does not take a serious stand on fighting corruption, all this will be in vain. As long as it is the same thieves we have in power, it'll be an exercise in futility. Whether the govt saves money or not, the hawks/thieves will simply have more to loot. Barawos!!

They should all be lined up and shot. They know themselves.I don't care much for all those committee members they were naming. Same old, same old.

What has happened concerning the face off beween the FG and BA and Virgin. The minute a committee was set up, the matter was swept under the carpet. Mseeeeeechhhw!
