UK soldiers are fed up with the food they are being served at military bases in the country by civilian contractors to the Military of Defence.
One soldier posted an open letter to the Army hierarchy on social media, complaining about food served by private firm Sodexo.
He wrote:
“Would you feed a homeless person undercooked or raw chicken? Would you serve it to a paying customer in a restaurant? Would you feed it to your kids for their dinner? I would like to think the answer to these questions is no, of course not. So why is the answer yes to serving soldiers paying for these meals?
I have taken the time to put a few photos together so you can see what the blokes are being served. We all know these complaints fall on deaf ears. I have already posted these questions, along with images, to Sodexo for response. Unfortunately, these posts have been deleted and I have now been blocked by Sodexo UK.
I’m sure you’re as troubled as I am to see mouldy eggs, undercooked chicken and maggots in tomatoes served to our service personnel.”
The firm at the centre of the controversy, Sodexo, is one of the world's leading catering firms and supplies more than 80 Army, Navy and RAF sites in the UK, Cyprus and the Falkland Islands.
A spokeswoman for the French firm said:
“We are aware of the recent complaints which have appeared on social media over the last week. Without knowing where these photos have been taken, it is impossible to investigate. We take food quality and safety extremely seriously within our organisation. If any customer has a complaint about the quality of food we serve them, they should inform the team where they purchased the food as soon as possible in order that it can looked into straight away.”

Sodexo food sucks. While I schooled in yankee for my bsc, the food we were given was nothing to write home about. Then when I went for my masters, I noticed the food albeit not too great was a tad bit better. And that's because they used the food distributor, Aramark instead.

Guys pls don't be too fast to judge! I'm a Nigerian and I worked with Sodexo while I was in the UK and never for once was I as a staff(and being black for that matter) given stale or rotten food! I feel a serious investigation should be carried out and possible evidence should be shown that those pictures were indeed taken by a soldier served food by a Sodexo team 'cos believe me Sodexo does not discriminate and food safety truly is held up 100%
