Aminu Muhammad Ofs has expressed deep concern and fear about the porous security at Nigerian Airports which makes it easy for attacks given the upsurge in terrorism around the world. His concern stems from the fact that those in charge of security sometimes don't conduct thorough checks. Read his post below
"As we mourn Brussels, I hope anyone will read this and do something our own Airports security. I drove into an Airport about 20 minutes ago. We were four men in the car and I am obviously the smallest in size.
I have six bags containing 12 laptops in my boot with another bigger bag containing cables and chargers. When we got to the security check point, all the guy asked was, "Do you have anything in the boot. I said No. I actually forgot I had those bags in the boot. He simply said, "Sauka lafiya Rankadade". That was all and we are inside the Airport.
I reported to one of the Airport Security guys and he told me, it must because they know me. He said "you may not know him but most of them know you". Then I asked him how many terrorists he know. He didn't answer me and I told him the fact that you know me doesn't mean I am not a terrorist who will take advantage of being known here to wreck havoc. He obviously wasn't on the same page with me but, he is a a senior Airport Security Chief collecting salaries and allowances. I didn't tell the Airport Manager who I am here to see because that one is hot head. That will mean total bad news for the guy but on my way out, I plan to stop and talk to the guy. May God Almighty protect us all"

My people naija airport is the most careless and insensitive airport I have ever seen...what dis guy said is totally true, His God that has been keeping us..most of the security beg people 4 money instead of dem to protect and look out for any danger...
Aminu Muhammed you are very correct. In actual fact most of the security agencies in the airport especially international airport (MMIA) have compromised the main purpose for which they are posted there. All they do at the detriment of securing peoples' lives ad properties is to solicit for tips from arriving passengers and those traveling out. 90% of all the agencies are guilty of these and they give returns to their bosses in their office to enable them remain at such "highly sought after lucrative beats". So there is no way they won't overlook the lapses for want of extra tips/dough from passengers.

If you are using this one to test the porousity,u never cheechomthing.. how do you think young lads find their way into the tyre compartment and get to their destinations. Nigerian security guys are so unprofessional and are blinded by what they can get from you.
I once flew domestic and I had 6 can beer in my hand luggage. The screening fella took 2 cans and allowed me in with 4 cans. There is no security my brother. What if the other 4 cans had explosives laden in them? We need to re-calibrate our security apparati in our land,sea and air ports.

He let you pass like that because you are a Northerner. He would have made you come down and open your boot and luggage if you looked Igbo, Delta, Ijaw, Calabar or Rivers etc.
Most of our country men are on their jobs for the salary Sake well would you blame them when all the political class knows to do is name white elephant projects budget out the resources and share it amongst themselves

What the heck is "Sauka lafiya Rankadade". Why did he fail to translate. Well his concern is genuine but this is Nigeria where less value is attached to lives as if we all are street urchins.
Public beggar called public security officer, dey abandoned dere duty to begged for money. Who do we blame if not d management of various security agency involved dt post personnel to Airport without Merit. Corruption is everywhere in Nigeria.

When I briefly worked at the airport I prayed everyday for it to.end! Even the ticketing/check in halls don't have walk in screening machines... Scared the shiii outta me

Amen,, God's protection is highly needed. Some workers collect salaries without doing their jobs. What does it take to carry out a thorough check on individuals entering in and out of the airport. The workers should stand up to their duties.

THAT HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO ME AT LAGOS AIRPORT. WE WERE LINED UP BODY SCANNED AS WE ARE BOARDING AND LONG CAME THIS MAN AND THE SECURITY LADY STAFF THAT WAS SCANNING US JUST LET HIM BOARD WITHOUT BEING SCANNED. SO I ASKED HER WHY SHE DIDN'T SCAN HIM AND SHE REPLIED, AHH MADAM I KNOW DE MAN NA MINE PERSON. I TOLD HER SHE SHOULD NOT DO THAT BECAUSE THAT IS A SECURITY RISK AND SHE SHOULD NOT CONCLUDE, AFTER ALL HE MIGHT BE A TERRORIST BUT INSTEAD SHE BECAME BILIGERANT WITH ME AND STARTED INSULTING ME.
