A new study carried out recently by psychology lecturers at the Western Canadian Undergraduate University, Canada, has disproved the myth that women gossip more than men. Studies have shown that men of 'nowadays' gossip more that women.
It is commonly believed that women are the ones who love to spread rumours, and gossip about their friends behind their backs…but today, men…are worse! Men…love a bit of scandal, and will do anything they can to be centre of attention with their colleagues and peers

The study carried out claims that although men and women love to gossip, chatter tends to bring guys closer, and tear female friends apart.
The study found that men chat about shared activities such as sports, which automatically brings them closer while women chat about physical appearance – which can endanger friendships.
Yet another study recently conducted by global research company, Onepoll, revealed that men spend an average of 76 minutes a day chatting and gossiping with their friends or work colleagues, compared to just 52 minutes for women.
The study also found that the favourite gossip topics for men include the antics of drunken friends, old school friends, rumours about possible relationships in the office or the boss, promotions, sex, salaries and the most attractive girl at work…while women were found to be more likely to complain about other women, other people’s sex lives amongst others.
The study further found that office is the preferred place for men to exchange gossip and that guys are happiest when chatting with work colleagues, and 58 per cent admit that being a gossip makes them feel “part of the gang”.
The researchers add that women also love to talk about news but rather than focusing on politics or government issues, news about soap operas and celebrities are more likely to cause a debate. And any type of relationship is up for discussion – whether it is their own, their friends, their friends’ friends or their bond with their mother-in-law.

I think this is true actually. I hang out with boys often and they surely do gossip too. i don't know about them gossiping more per say, but I'm certain men gossip too. Perhaps in a "different way" but they do. Funny enough, the females i hang out with(actual friends), they don't gossip..hardly ever. we usually only share jokes with each other and study together and mention parts of our past.

@Linda, it is so true that men gossip more than women. One day, I went out with my husband and his friends by mistake and if you hear the things they were saying. It was a group of 5-6 men some married and 3 single, all educated and had life going for them. They gossiped about everything, ladies,cars, talked about everything right in my front, I was shocked at how they talked about ladies that sleep with men without the wedding ring, they even abused some women's brazilian hair , I was so surprised.
Also, men play a bigger role in spreading lies and causing fights among women. Ladies just be careful to not tell your husband everything you do with your female friends. Because, I know guys that will go and tell their male friends and next thing they spreading rumors about her, ...then next your husband doesn't want you hanging around that female friend anymore.

I support this study. Men love to gossip and read gossip. An example, is when it comes to all them soft-sell magazines, they behave like they are not intrested. But i would later catch them when they think no one is watching, reading that same mag like his life depended on it.

When I was in school, almost all the bad stories about girls were spread by guys. Even in a working environment now, (and i work in a male oriented field) I've found that guy are the ones who spread stories , lie that they've slept with one girl or the other or know someone that some poor girl has slept with e.t.c...
Sometimes they just make up a story and as soon as it's said over Beer, it become gospel and tarnishes some poor girls image.

Men gossip perhaps more than women but tearing people down is an individual thing. A very bad character trait that you cannot attach to any gender or race/nationality generally. I concludes on this a very long time ago as well. This stems from the general nature of each gender. A woman is more likely to tell you how she feels to your face. Women are more expressive. I man would bottle it up and tell everyone else but you.

I didn't read the article; I always knew men gossip more than women. I used to hang out and have lots of male friends but cut them out one by one because the kind of gossip wey them dey do eeh na the dangerous kind oo.
