Vanguard quoted a source as saying that the agreement to employ the staggered payment model followed a series of meetings between top executives of MTN Nigeria and South Africa with VP, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
“There have been series of meeting at the Presidency between Vice President Osinbajo and MTN team both from South Africa and the Nigerian arm. MTN wanted a waiver considering their level of investments in the country, but government did not buy the idea of waiver. Instead, I think there will be concession, but certainly not a waiver. At the conclusion of the meeting, the MTN people negotiated on how to stagger the payment. The Presidency is even angry because MTN was a signatory to the regulation, but they are failing to comply with rules.” the source added.

Ubanagum
No wonder my credit has been magically disappearing!
They have the money nah.
By the way, I don't understand why I should be bullied into registering my sim again after queuing up for long hours at MTN office to register it the first time.
I'm not that jobless. I still have a lot of incantations to do.
Not my fault that they lost the first data.
Sincerely speaking the mind of Amadioha
MAN sucks out a lot of money from Nigerians so they should pay.
Serves them right...

Mtn will pay cos it will reap off its subscribers! By force 2 or more callertunes etc...Humbly switching to etisalat/airtel
now the tariff will go up again..smh
Hmmmm... Dey have d money sha!
Some MTN customer call centre agents dat lost their jobs wil b happy abt dis mostly d ones dat feel MTN doesn't worth it treating their call centre agents lik trash.
Since they can't spennd their money on their call centre staff, mayb d money should go into dis. I hope dis serve as deterrent to them and others.
Hmmmm... Dey have d money sha!
Wat rules? Were dey supposed to block lines?
Mtn sold my line plus many others.. Without any apology. Why didn't they just give it out for free... Am gonna sue that fucked up company when I get back..
The Nigerian subscribers will definitely bear the consequences of the fine with high tariff

That's a huge amount
Also Check www.vabadon.com
MTN customers will pay the money for them
That money is huge o. But MTN can afford.
#TeamBlessed#
And why shouldnt they pay? Did BP not pay $18B for Oil spill in USA? Did HSBC not pay millions of dollars in fine? Did Barclays not pay millions in fine? Why should Nigeria's own be exempt? When will we be ever taken seriously when we have the mentality of "I beg now?"
Nigerians need to begin to change their mindset of "Allow!! Allow!!"
Our money.
Well we the MTN subscribers are the ones who will pay for this, expect bonanzas and freebies soon! MTN are the masters of "Greek gifts"
Its simple... D masses will suffer it with outrageous tariffs... Lets brace up for wats to cum frm mtn
So when they fine you,you go have meeting with the Vice President. No respect for our institutions. Will a Nigerian company go meet South African VP instead of paying it's fine. Nigeria is a country of anything goes.
They will push the payment to their subscribers. There will be hidden charges .

Is that the reason they've been stealing my call credit daily, I don't bother recharging anymore as a result
They should fine MTN for poor treatment of their loyal customers as well
Na customers go pay last last. The cost of their services will rise to recover the loss or they lay off people either way NCC is shooting the Nigerian public in the foot.
And they will embezzle the money cos i don't know what NCC wants to do with that kind of money
Customers Bawo?
Make dem no just try any tin funny......#fine
Very annoying text messages.
We using mtn line sorry is our middle name.. No more loading card for now
I no go recharge again ooooo.
I beta try another network lyk glo
Is not too much ooo. Mtn can so charge us crazily and we don't get waiver or even concession. Mtn will subscribe you on a plan and deduct your monry without your consent. 1trillion is nothing for mtn jare.
Nigeria government is indirectly telling MTN 2 leave d country. What kind of yeye fine is dis? Very huge amount of money.
It amazes me d way n manner some people talk here.y won't mtn pay? do we knw d offence dey committed dt brot up such fine? pls dey must pay us.dere wahala too much.i believe dey wer fined more dan dt,it ws tru beg-beg dt dey had 2 brot it 2 dt amt.at d end of d day,na subscribers go suffer am.

Good for dem stupid apartheid country
Patriotic customers should boycott MTN completely to show their solidarity with government. They look down on Nigerian customers and government as if everyone is a fool. I used to have a postpaid account when they arrived Nigeria. They ripped me off. Now they have taken to mass lottery and gambling for which they have no license and pay no tax. To dodge tax and rip the country off is a financial crime for which their top management and regulatory collaborators should be jailed without an option of fine to serve as a deterrent to other looters. To siphon the income of poor.African nations in which they operate and salt the money away in Tax Havens is a crime against humanity and Africans. The international community should rally round Nigeria and other African countries to stem these financial crimes.
Switch to other networks. Already they are a rip off. Do not be afraid. If they attack you report them and tell your friends about them.
Despite being thousands of miles away from Nigeria, my local MTN number has never known peace as they kept on bombarding me with endless useless messages. That serves them right!
That is what we all must do. My mtn has long lost my patronage. Their online customer service is the worst in the world. Hmmph
They have the money but this money is supposed to go to customers what do you think
So much money
Make I no find my airtel O.
If all MTN users can come out with one voice and challenge the management, these madness of magically subscribing someone to a caller tune and deducting money will end ASAP.
The way these MTN people deduct money makes me wander if they think money rains on us every morning. I advise everyone using MTN to stop recharging airtime for now, unless money actually rains on you so bad that you dont have a clue of how to spend it.
MTN SUCKS!
I guess, The money will be enough to solve the economy problems.
Good for them! DSTV wil be next!
Me 2 6 billion dollars is 2 too much...Ncc re pervs
I switched to etisalat and airtel long ago & no complaints since.Don't know why people still bother with MTN. When I switched it felt like I was escaping from a bad relationship, i was so overjoyed, lol
Good for them.
They should pay, that's why their network is so expensive
You guys using mtn better run to glo o, or better still airtel cause it's the subscribers that will pay the fine
Blessing all dis body u mentioned has a code for their fans nd citizens but nija doesn't have,so d masses will pay d price.
Apart from the simple server enjoyment MTN is nonsense!
Just yesterday I loaded a card made like three calls the credit should not have gone half but just as I was placing the next call I was told you don't have anough credit for this call. Now I know why. It's the Nigerian masses that will pay they continue to cheat us till they pay the fine.
I borrowed from MTN N400 and I am yet to pay...but hearing this...I will just Port to Glo and bye bye to them
I have to buy an Airtel line for both calls and Internet things. MTN will soon start ripping us off. Ol' boy, see their BETATALK plan- worse than using the actual amount to make calls ( but na me put myself for that problem when I wan comot myself now). Thrice I registered my line with MTN and they came calling a fourth time; I therefore assume that they were fooling me and the NCC!!!!
Our money! Our everything. Lmao
Urs is even magical ..mine disappears on front of mi . .I see it in dream sef ! Smh! Stupid pple ! Av stop loading credit so dey can as well milk d fone itself ! Smh !
#deymustpaydfine!
...that's a lot of money in any currency. It is about 45% of our National budget. Asking a company to pay that much by a Country that is wooing investors is not encouraging. It's not sending the right signal to intending investors.
...I doubt if the issue here is whether MTN can afford it or not, is it really justifiable? I hope NCC and the Nigerian government will give account of the use they put it into.
...for most people abusing MTN, directly or indirectly I believe almost all Nigerians have someone directly or indirectly serviced by the company. Be careful what you wish.
