Labour suspends strike

The Nigerian Labour Congress at a press conference a few minutes ago suspended the nationwide strike action and all mass rallies.

Dear Labour leaders, you just failed 160 million Nigerians. You've betrayed our trust. You said N65 and no going back and u rescind on that? Thousands of Nigerians filled the streets to protest, over 19 people lost theirs lives, thousands of Nigerians in the diaspora also joined the protests in solidarity and you think N97 was what we all did that for? You no longer represent us.

Voting Goodluck Jonathan is biggest mistake Nigerians ever made.

We don't need no damn NLC to protest. The NLC is another arm of the government! What no concessions no accountability. What will the subsidy money be used for????

I say we continue to strike. But who am I just a common Nigerian. Not part of an organized union. But then aren't we all just Nigerians? Aren't we all in this struggle together? The NLC is not part of this struggle!!! Please Nigeria, say NO to corruption! The protest must go on!!

Anonymous said...

Nigerians are not united in opinion and resolve. Egyptians, libyans and tunisians had no NLC/TUC. It was a revolt of a people united against an oppressive government. If we are united against the government, we can still continue this struggle without NLC and WIN.

I must say am really disapointed in the actions of the labour congress. After all the protests and rallies Nigerians did, they still betrayed us.

I saw d pics of the protest on ur blog..and I said to myself..YES, the time of change has come. My friends advised me to save the money I used to travel to London all the way from Leeds to join the protest...buh I felt it was worth it. I feel so let down...and am sure millions of Nigerians feel the same.
P.S..do take care of urself linda..am really scared 4 u.

Linda, Nawa for you...every where wey belle face, you go face...I have never seen you blogged about this KNOW YOUR ENEMY WITHIN. My fellow compatriots, When our president announced the removal of oil subsidy, the corrupt and evil oil dealers here in Nigeria used it as a medium to defraud and enslave poor, innocent Nigerians by selling old stock which they bought less than 65naira for 150 to 250naira. Even the diesel bus drivers also used it as avenue to also exploit and rob the poor masses without gun. What have you done? Nothing. We are the problem of this country and non of us has condemned the oil dealers for perpetrating such criminal acts. Now that fuel has being reverted to 95/ltr, it will be foolish and unwise to still dine with the devils, our enemy within, the cockroaches, that evil lurking in the dark, those oil dealers. Please do not allow them to further defraud us, they should revert to 95naira immediately, since they have jet fighters that brought in oil for them overnite when it was increased. Let them not deceive you that they have not brought new stock because what they are still selling is still old stock. Let us at least fight this injustice and criminal act. Help Nigeria to Grow. Thank you and God bless you, my fellow compatriots.

Is Labour for us or against us? They have just shown us that they cannot defend their words and stand for the people they represent. Jonathan, your end is near, that is all i have to say. Labour, you could not even fight for those that lost their lives, what a shame. Their blood will remain on you till you defend them by winning this fight for the masses.

Anonymous said...

I completely oppose the deployment of soldiers to quell a peaceful protest. I however don't think labout sold us out to be honest. Have you thought of what would happen if a bomb was released in the midst of a protest? I think that was the angle put forward to the labour leaders and they did not want to take responsibility for any loss of life. As a result, they decided to call of the protests. Once protests are off, the strike is effectively off. They were in between a rock and a hard place and had to make a very tough choice. Your comments are pretty harsh. Be a little more objective and not so emotional.

There is no doubt about it, the NLC representatives have been compromised and they have disappointed Nigerians. They have wasted the only bullet Nigeria has for a positive change. You could tell that the NLC labour leader's conscience was troubled in his early morning interview. They forgot to talk on accountability and development of Nigeria in the press interview. I will rather prefer to live with a clean conscience than compromise.
God arise and let your wrath and leprosy catch the hands of anyone that collected Ghana-must-go, cheques, Cars, houses, money transfer into personal accounts, oil bloc or any anything in order to kill the national strike meant to bring a positive change to the country. Let their dreams and happiness be killed just the same way, AMEN.
Like thieves they are they have chosen the easiest route to amass wealth because they don’t have time for hard work that will involve creating infrastructure and capacity building for people , they want overnight wealth just like thief they only work they do is to use fear to collect peoples assets

Kemikal said...

You and Nigeria were sold by the protest leaders and trade union leaders. They were heavily bribed with lots of money. That's why they called off the protest. They used the public to hold the government hostage and got paid into backing down.

Soldiers are now on every street corner because they answered the #OccupyNigeria call. Soldiers, too, are Nigerians. They didn't get the memo to leave their guns and tanks in the barracks. Spoil sports. Oh well, there's always next time - to cause mayhem, get back at PDP and wreck the economy. I told you that PDP will employ underhand and dirty tactics to sabotage the protest. Their next step is to witchhunt and victimise those they couldn't bribe into abandoning the protest and the northerners who used the "protest" to get even with "infidel" President Goodluck Jonathan.

I predict that PDP will win the next election. Nigerians are too forgetful, gullible and be fooled again and again by politician into voting in the wrong people.

May God save Nigeria, AMEN.

I knew that bitch wasn't going to be a good president when he avoided presidential debates and started paying certain Nigerians I know a lot of money to vote for him. People said they connected with him because he was from the south. Has he done anything for the south? NO!

I believe a lot of us knew this nigger was just going to be another president with no purpose but we didn't like the other candidates so we settled for less. We settled for someone who did not respect the people by attending any of the presidential debates. I hope we would be smarter next time and stop settling like we usually do.

I want to commend all Nigerians home and abroad for their resilience and unity in the past 15 -days of nation wide protest.

For the first time in the history of Nigeria after 50 years of independence by the British for Nigerians to have that sense of independence and freedom. I strongly believe the benefits and impacts of this nation wide protest out way its lost.

It really felt good to be free again for one to express himself and herself without interference of the military. I believe this protest brought back that sense of togetherness among Nigerians under one purpose for the first time in the history of Nigeria.

All Nigerians were singing with one voice and crying together with one voice and dieing together for one purpose. This shows if Nigerians persist in their quest for democracy and transparent government it can be achieved on the next poll come 2015.

It is recorded in the last 10 days of the initial call for mass protest no incident of major or minor crime was recorded, NO KIDNAPPING, NO ARMED ROBBERY AND MAJOR CAR ACCIDENT, NO POWER FAILURE incident. No crime was recorded by the Nigerian Police or the media. I believe Nigerians deserve an mighty applause for this.

My brothers and sisters keep up the good work . Let us not go back to our old ways of selfishness and self contentedness. We should all strive to be our brothers and sisters keeper.

0% CRIME IN NIGERIA FOR 10 GOOD DAYS.

This is just an observation and I believe if Nigerians can use this model to redirect the Nigerian cause. Get ready for a better Nigeria.

Also this protest should serve as a wake up call to all elected officials and those appointed to served that they are touchable and expandable any time and any day. They can no longer take the good of Nigeria for granted. Is a new dawn in Nigeria and is no longer business as usual.

I believe President Goodluck Jonathan needed to be applauded for his understanding and non combative approach unlike his predecessors. He means and desires well for all Nigerians though he is surrounded by host of bad and incompetent ministers and advisers all Nigerians must unite together to work with him in his quest for a better Nigeria. Let us continue to pray for him as the word of God instructed us to so.

After 50 years of repression, oppression and suppression Nigerians can cry, dance, sing and die together with one purpose.

I'm proud to be a Nigerian again.

God bless Nigeria.

YOU ARE BOTH FOOLS!!!
If you dont like what Linda has to say, feel free and start your own blogs and write whatever you want to write. Lets see if people are interested in listening or reading the crap you spew from that mouth of yours.
Calling someone immature because they expressed their opinion that their vote for GEJ was a mistake?
And the second idiot at 3:17 must be the twin brother. FYI: It is Linda's blog, you didn't give her a kobo to start it or run it. So if you don't like her opinion being expressed on her personal blog , go stick your dick in a transformer.
Both of you are one motherfucking hideous dumpster cunt.
I dont agree with everything Linda may speak about or show on her blog, but I will defend to my death her right to use her blog and speak her opinions freely.

I personally, think any right thinking progressive Nigerian with a heart and soul that has not been sold for a morsel and who voted for GEJ, should have done some soul searching by now and pretty much come to the same conclusion or at the least, question whether their vote was right in this time of crises in our nation.

So for the both of you Anonymous 2:49 PM & Anonymous 3:17 PM; and any other haters, next time you feel like pouring your venom out on issues, because someone is expressing their God given opinion in their own personal blog; remember you moldy shit-breathing ass-wipes that we are in the age of freedom of expression. So feel free to use a time machine and transport your ass back to the stone age!

Lind,
You really ought to show more respect and patroitism now. The labour leaders are not fools. You are an outsider and therefore do not know what the real situation is.Both the government and the labor leaders deserve some respect.NLC was able to bring the price down to N97 and the government was able to shift their position.
The way you keep stressing on the GEJ, one would think that previous Nigerian leaders were super. Now go back in history and tell me which president that was all that.
My position is that every Nigerian have failed that nation,-not just GEJ.
We do sincerely need change in Nigeria. We should all resolve to be that change. From today, let us ask ourselves daily what we are doing to make that country great.Every little effort matters and everybody can make a countribution.GEJ is just one individual and a tree does not make a forest.

Linda, you dey here dey yarn dust about Jonathan without bothering to educate yourself on the issues... The government has been repairing refineries since before you were born and they have not worked.. Is it not better to deregulate and hand it over to private organisations who will no doubt handle it better?

Meanwhile, the suspected mastermind of the Christmas day church bombing who was arrested has escaped... This is the clear problem facing this country and not subsidy...http://dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=152494%3Amadalla-blast-detained-suspect-escapes&catid=2%3Alead-stories&Itemid=8

Linda was right we all disappointed with GEJ..who would have thought he would bring out the Army to suppress the people..
We have been here before when Nzeogwu led the 66 Coup it was seen as an Igbo initiative which was wrong..he was more Hausa than Igbo..yet the Hausas all got sentimental..fast forward..2012..The South South and South East have done the same..some paid to go on every blog to attack those opposing GEJ's policy not the man..supporting the Army on the streets..supporting subsidy removal how absurd is that!!..cos he's South South!!..9ja would never get past the ethnic angle..
What has GEJ done for South/East anyway apart from token Ministerial positions..paying his cronies in his home state!!..Boko Haram is still killing Igbos..what has he done not a single arrest of significance..couldn't even lodge an appeal against the Borno court awarding 100 million to the widow of the slain Boko spokesman..like the Hausas that killed and maimed the igbos in 66..what have they got to show for it apart from the very few ruling elite??..still as poor and uneducated as 66..and look at the development of South South..not much going for it...either

I undertand your views but any well meaning Nigerian should be glad the protest is over. For a whole six days, everything was at a stand still. We really have to move on.
True the massess did not get exactly what they wanted but they got something. No labour union has ever received 100% of what it is asking from the government in the history of mankind. The two parties usually compromises-each giving up something. In this case, none of the parties got what they were asking for. They all gave up something.

For all, who are blogging that the east and south, south, Nigeria did not protest with the rest of Nigeria, Who are the people that are expected to protest? Families that have been rendered useless by Boko Harem, for no just cause? Yet no Nigerian, even well meaning moslems, protested peacefully for the death of these people. We can protest for oil but not for human life?
Again do not make GEJ a sectional leader. He is supposed to be a Nigerin leader. Ask for what he has done for Nigeria and not just east and south, south people.
The people of these areas should ask their governors, legislators, local government chairmen etc, what they have done for them.

In the future to avoid a mass protest of this magnitude, there should be TRANSPARENCY in every level of governance in Nigeria. When people are given account of where their money go, they will understand better.

My many thanks, to Linda for this medium at this time and the people of Nigeria for a peaceful Demonstration. I have no doubt in my mind that Nigeria will be great again, some day. We owe it to our children, yet to be born!!!
