Kano Assembly suspends probe of Kano Emirates

After receiving a letter from the State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, the Kano State House Assembly on Monday called off its investigation into allegations of misappropriation of funds and other infractions against the Kano Emirates Council. If you recall, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II was accused of financial recklessness, with an allegation stating that he spent as much as N6 billion since he ascended the throne in 2014. The emirate reacted through its senior council official in charge of finance, Bashir Wali, who told reporters that only N3.4 billion had been spent since Sanusi ascended the throne in 2014.

In the letter read during Monday’s plenary by the Speaker, Mr Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the governor urged the Assembly to suspend its investigation following pleas by former leaders, traditional rulers and various statesmen across the federation for the matter to be dropped.

The Speaker presented the request to the lawmakers for consideration and they all agreed to end the investigation.

They've succeeded in taming Sanusi. He threatened the status quo of the northern oligarchs and got his fingers burnt. Let's see if he will continue to talk open mindedly.

Just like that!!! So the hatchet has been buried? What if there were real issues to be resolved and lessons to be learnt. Politics again. Okay!!! Later some people will say corruption fight is not selective, when with a single letter(ink on paper) from a state executive, the state assembly will suspend an investigation that they claim to have put together enough evidence to prove the case against a person. People are serving time for stealing mobile phones.

I'm ashamed for my people. Criminal investigation suspended because some big men intervened??? I weep for our generation!!!

When corruption has become a way of life that people we elect to respect the law are the ones obstructing justice. How can we move forward as a country? We have to respect the rule of law and NOT our emotions or sentimental thoughts.

The govt of the day is condoning corruption yet it claims to curb it. Why are the leaders interfering in the matter. Until we learn to obey the rules of law in this nation, our progress and development is still a mirage.... More of a child's play. Because he is an emir, he shouldn't be probed. Goodness me,we are still learning and will continue to learn until we start doing what is needful.
