15 injured in Gombe hotel bomb blast

No fewer than 15 persons were injured in an explosion at a hotel located on the outskirts of Gombe. The attack occured on Wednesday night and came after a series of bombings on Christmas, Day, which killed at least 40 persons in Suleja, Jos and Damaturu. The Manager of the hotel, Mr. Ojiego Nelson, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gombe on Thursday that three persons came to the hotel at about 10.13pm on Wednesday to explode a device.Nelson said he was at the gate of the hotel when the men, who were carrying guns, started "manhandling" the security man.

He said, "When he asked what was happening, they started shooting sporadically."Our customers and everybody started running helter-skelter and the one with two gas cylinders in his hands threw them into our reception."He threw one into the reception and threw the other one under the cars parked by our guests in the hotel."The one thrown into the reception exploded and damaged the building, so we just managed to escape through the back fence."The manager said as soon as the incident happened, all the customers vacated their rooms in the hotel. He said the incident was immediately reported to the Divisional Police Officer in Tumfure, Mr Hassan Bappa, who came to the scene with his men.

Bappa told NAN he moved his men to the scene of the incident when the matter was reported to him, but said the gunmen had escaped before the police arrived. Bappa said there was no casuality and nothing was stolen from the hotel. "We are waiting for bomb experts to come and remove the relics at the scene of the incident," he said. He said there was no arrest made so far but investigations were going on. Meanwhile, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Magus Abe, on Thursday in Lagos called for political support for security agencies to reduce the spate of bombings in the country. Abe (PDP-Rivers South-East) made the call in an interview with the NAN, urging the security agencies to be persistent in handling the incessant bombings by the fundamentalist Boko Haramsect.

He said, "The security agencies need full political support of the leadership of the country and the communities; besides, they need to be focused, consistent and avoid distractions. "The Boko Haram issue is a challenge that must be overcome. Take for instance, there was a time in Israel when bombs were going on everyday but today they have overcome it.’’ The senator advised the country’s leadership to be courageous in handling the present security challenges facing the nation. "The Boko Haram issue requires leadership and total courage, courage on the part of the leadership and the leadership must adopt the consistency approach," he said.

Divide this country to North and South at once. What is it we are gaining from this supposed 'unity'. Every year thousands of people lose their lives to this rubbish religious wars. Let us live separately and meet only for business. Let them rule and destroy theirselves alone. This thing is already out of hand and it is too late to be rectified without a division.

Let's be real for once!

Any US, UK or EU liaison relationship with Nigerian Security Services to build Nigerian capacity to combat the threat posed by the Boko Haram to Nigeria and US interest will fail. Nigerian Security Services have been infiltrated by both sympathizers and members of Boko Haram and are therefore compromised. The Boko Haram itself is a part and parcel of a creeping islamization of Nigeria. The Hausa/Fulani muslims who have controlled Nigeria for 38 donkey years of Nigeria's 51 years of indepence first unilaterally declared Nigeria a muslim country and called their insolent act a fait accompli. In utter disregard for our secular status and in violation of Section 10 of Nigeria's Constitution, 12 core Islamic States inaugurated sharia. So, within Nigeria's secular Republic, Hausa/Fulani muslims in their arrogance are running mini-theocratic Islamic Republics of theirs within Nigeria, a supposedly secular country. A peaceful protest by some Christian minorities in those Sharia States in northern Nigeria were met with brutal massacres. They were slaughtered like animals. In Kaduna State alone, over 2,000 innocent Christian children, men and women were murdered in cold blood for daring to protest against the imposition of sharia law on them. It is an open secret in Nigeria that Boko Haram are being sponsored by muslim politicians of northern extraction that are in President Jonathan's own party, PDP. Even the Supreme head of Nigerian Muslims, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Sa'ad Abubakar is tainted with the Boko Haram brouhaha. He has been implicated. Along with the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Hafis Abubakar Ringim, some Imams and Emirs, the Sultan of Sokoto contrived their so called "Perception Management", whereby Boko Haram members were aided to evade the law. To make matters worse, both the Nigerian judiciary and law enforcement agencies are without exception under the control of the Alhajis. Boko Haram terrorists have the full backing of the entire Islamic north. Without their support, Boko Haram cannot operate. I urge everyone to be courageous and persistent in reporting, pleading to our leaders for action and bringing to world attention the evil atrocities being carried out by Boko Haram and their sponsors. Boko Haram will be defeated, in Jesus name. Amen.

Idiotic actions like this are condemnable. However people calling for the division of the country are ignorant. Are there no christians in the north or what happens to the southern muslim. We need to individually begin to change our thinking. We are all Nigerians. Citizens arrest should be entrenched in our constitution. Police need to be overhauled with community policing established. The solutions are not far fetched. We need the will to do them.

@Joel

Think again. There are many Northerners who are Christians. They are affected just as badly by all this violence & destruction. Hausa/Fulani Christians face persecution daily as they go about their lives. This persecution has been going on since before all the religious crises & Boko Haram madness started recurring in recent years.

Splitting North and South will not stop innocent people being killed by these brainwashed barbarian excuse of human beings.

@ Joey Said,

Let's be real. There are many Northerners who are Christians. They are killed & destroyed in these religious wars & Boko Haram madness. They suffer as much as(if not more than) the rest of the country.

We split the country along ethnic lines, Christian Northerners will still die needlessly.

Maybe it's time for the military to step in and take decisive action.

DIVIDE NIGERIA! THAT'S THE ONLY SOLUTION...WE SHOULD STOP DECEIVING OURSELVES...LET THERE BE A REFERENDUM NOW, TO DECIDE HOW TO DIVIDE THE COUNTRY. SO THAT EVERYBODY CAN GO IN PEACE AND NOT IN PEICES...ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...MAY GOD DELIVER US, IJN.

What is Islam and the North turning Nigeria into? This is becoming ridiculously outrageous. I was against the divide initially but u know wat, it seems it will be very necessary now. The North and any sharia believing muslims can go their seperate way. People will just have to loose whatever porperty or wealth they have accumulated in thye North and flee. Better to loose wealth than your lives. We need to seperate now and do so as soon as poissible.

to those of u putting the blame on Islam, over 60persons were killed in Ebonyi State, is that Islam too, u all have eyes but refused to see, BOKO HARAM has got nothing to do with Islam, its strickly political so stop condemning Islam for some politician's greed.
And to u Mr GEJ, only God knows what is running thru ur head right now, have never seen a president so dumb, sure u dont even have a clue as to how to stop this.
Fellow Nigerians, i think we need to write a letter to Jerry Rawlings to come rule us, believe me, we need him.
