As a Yoruba man who lived during the civil war era the name Ojukwu invokes a lot of emotions Fear when we were kids,of course he was demonised by the FGN,but tremendous respect as we grew older and began to appreciate the essence of the man.His command of the English language was unparalleled spoken with a flair that will make the Queen of England proud.his oratory skills and use of words were legendary and who will forget his calling AWOLOWO 'the best president Nigeria never had "upon his death . Ikemba the Igbos mourn you,the Yorubas mourn you,Africa mourns you, the world mourns you.RIP and may your dream for an Igbo Nation come true very soon

I am personally devastated by this loss. No other figure dead or alive has served as a rallying point for Ndigbo!

His difficult decision to secede based on the mandate of my Grand Father and Father's generation in the face of the Northern pogrom of the Ibos was a defining moment for the Ibos and has proved to be eerily prescient in the context of the confusion that still pervades the Nigerian question.

He will sorely sorely be missed. There is an obvious vacuum in symbolic leadership. All we of Ibo extraction stand proud of this Colossus of a man!

Ojukwu was an Igbo icon, freedom fighter, champion (of fairness, transparency, accountability and integrity), political player and a Nigerian hero. Ojukwu must be given national honours and a national burial. Damn those rotten Hausa / Fulani people and their feeling.

Ojukwu was 100% right about those devious, divisive, filthy, corrupt, and greedy Hausa and Fulani people. Ojukwu will always be remembered. His spirit lives on in the Igbo people and peace loving Nigerians. I am Ojukwu. We're Ojukwus. Boko Haram, Arewa Consultative Forum, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, and Jama’atu Nasril Islam shall be annihilated. They and their treacherous descendants shall be exterminated like the cockroaches they are.

Rest in peace, Ikemba. You are LOVED, forever.

To call someone of Ojukwu's status a warlord is an insult. Whilst many do not agree with the way in which Biafra attempted to split from Nigera, to call him a warlord is a slap in the face when one considers the louts who run around Libera, Zaire etc causing chaos....

Those are the warlords.

Though I do not agree with your politics Ojukwu RIP.

This was one very intelligent Nigerian stateman and a freedom fighter to boot!...and it's sad that we dont have leaders of his caliber anymore. Gone are the days when Nigeria was blessed with visionary leaders like the Awolowo's, Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Enahoro....now days, we are bedevilled with hogwash career politicians and bootlicking sycophants who are bent on ruining our great country Nigeria.
Just take a moment of your time and listen to our "heroes past" as they speak the Queen's English...their command of the English language was flawless and breathtaking! You couldn't be any prouder for being a Nigerian, because our leaders had vision and foresight for this great country! But today, the Jonathan's of this world are making a mockery of the once great "Giant of Africa!"
Adios Ikemba!

@Funky Diva you are a nasty piece of work! You can express your sympathy without insulting a whole group of people! by your words , you show that you are no better than the hausa/fulani that you so disparage! SHAME on you!

You and Boko Haram should drink bleach and jump off a cliff. Your celebration will not last. We will bring tears to your ancestors and unborn children for all the Christians and my people your Frankenstein ancestors and Boko Haram massacred in northern Nigerian from 1945 to 2011.

OJUKWU was a king, a legend, a charismatic hero. He was an epitome of charisma and above all he loved his people and meant well for them..... could there be a replacement or anyone to fit into his shoes considering the crop of vision-less and greedy leaders we have this time around. GOODBYE Ikemmba

Linda, I have issues with ur labelling of Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu as d Biafran war lord (or warlord). Don't just copy & paste things, try & read them critically too, b4 publishing.
Ojukwu was d only undisputed head of d Igbos worldwide (EZE IGBO GBURUGBURU). Even d Great Zik of Africa was not accorded dat title! B4 him dere was no such title, after him dere'll neva be anoda.
He wz not a warlord. He wz Biafra's true leader.
Adieu, Ikemba.
Adieu, EZE IGBO GBURUGBURU!

@ funky dipshit 7:45, you're obviously an ill bred guttersnipe! Why make the assumption that I'm hausa/fulani, I'm not! I'm just ashamed that a wretch like you is Igbo! Definitely not a credit to the great Ojukwu. You are the type of people we don't need in Nigeria!

@Anon November 27, 2011 4:20 PM. Boko Haram appeaser, you seem proud of Boko Haram. Clap for yourself. I can’t stand stupid morons like you and your murderous Arab (slaves) ancestors. And if you are Igbo (as you claimed), damn you x 100 times. On behalf of Ohaneze Ndigbo (worldwide), I disown you. Where was you when christians and peoples of the South-South and South East of Nigeria where deliberately and systematically being massacred by Hausa / Fulani leaders and islamists to destabilise Nigeria and create an excuse for perpetual Islamic Hausa / Fulani dominance of the leadership of Nigeria? Why did they intensify their attacks after a Christian, Goodluck Jonathan became the President? We are not going to sit on our hands while they slaughter our people in northern nigeria. If it takes a hundred years, we will retaliate. An eye for their two eyes. Remember that. One by one, northern leaders will suffer seizure and heart attacks. It shall never be well Hausa / Fulani people and their descendants. Mark my work. Damn you, Damn Boko Haram. Damn how you feel about my comment. Y'all will end up in Sahara Desert where your Hausa / Fulani ancestors originally came from. My comment don't have to please you. Nigeria is not a totalitarian or Islamic country. I have freedom of thought. Remember that. I have freedom of speech. Your damn Boko Haram ancestors will take away everyone's freedom of speech and trample on personal liberties if they succeed in turning Nigerian into Islamic Republic of Nigeria. How dare you pathethic moron attack my comment? I made my comment and I stand by it. You got no phukin right to attack anyone's commrnt. Drink bleach and throw yo stupid arse off a cliff, you tramp. Now, piss off.

My hero has gone the way of all mortals.Someone said and I agree that;
“The nation will miss this solid voice from the East of the Niger, this leader of men who stood firmly by his people all through his journey in life. Dim was never given to prevarication nor was he the type that would genuflect on issues"
Just like the Yorubas and Hausas will never forget Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello respectively,so the Igbos will never forget you...IKEMBA we'll always love and cherish your memory...Adieu
