Although, his name has not been submitted officially to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, but a decision could be made today when Oscar producers Brett Ratner and Don Mischer meet up with the Academy's president Tom Sherak."

I think at that level money is not usually the issue, the prestige is what carries the much weight, but yes, they do pay them.
