Blessing Okagbare finishes last in women's 100m final

Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare may have finished last in the final of the women’s 100m today at the ongoing London 2012 Olympic Games, but finishing in a time of 11.01, it's still one of the fastest times in African Female 100 meters. #lastmathings! :-)

Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce emerged winner, finishing at 10.75

Last na last.
but come o!
Nigeria has not won any medal at the London Olympics..please tell them to introduce new games like stealing public funds, bomb planting, gossipping, kidnapping, formula 1 in traffic jam, cutting of human head etc
so that we can pick Gold medals quick quick. We cant afford to be embarrased like ds.

Nice try, nt easy at all. J.luv!

She is a great sprinter. Her only problem is her late start. With more training on her start, she is only going to get better. Proud of her

Must be the weave on......

How unfortunate that you chose to qualify her efforts at qualifying in the 100m finals so... She might not have won a medal but she has represented her country to the best of her capability which is all we can ask for. Well done Blessing!!!

first of all linda she is top 8 in the world this is so good. Now is de ja vi all over again. You can not perform magic 3 weeks to olympics nigerian government should stop playing and toying with sports.

I am PROUD of Blessing Okagbare. Despite coming from a country that does NOT invest in the athletics, she went out there and did her best. Our performance at the Olympics is a reflection of the depressing state of our nation. I am mourning our disastrous future. Blessing, YOU ROCK! HOLD YOUR HEAD HIGH!!!!

Anonymous said...

Considering the fact that her preparedness is probably less than 10% of what these winning countries invest due to our unpatriotic government, I say she's a winner.
You go girl!!!

It was really a closely-contested race as the difference between the first, Shelly-Ann, and the last, our own Blessing, wasn't much. We still dey try!

Blessing did a good job and in the semi finals she finished in 10.92 beating US, Jamaica and Trinidad amongst others. in a country where there is little development in the sports sector, our athletes are self trained and doing their best. good job Blessing! u try!!!!

I salute the young lady. She tried.
11.01 sec is really fast. Actually the female sprinters this time around are really very fast. Most of them made the sprint in less than 11 secs.
I wonder what they are all eating these days.

THE GLORY DAYS OF NIGERIAN OLYMPICS IS GONE...OUR GOVT HAS REFUSED TO INVEST TIME AND MONEY IN TRAINING YOUNG BUDDING TALENTS..THEY WOULD RATHER SQUANDER AND LOOT THE COUNTRY'S VAULTS...HOW CAN A COUNTRY MARRED WITH CORRUPTION, DIABOLISM, RANCOUR, AND BITTER SQUABBLES AMOUNT TO ANYTHING GOOD??? GONE ARE THE DAYS OF THE INNOCENT EGBUNIKE, CHIDI IMOH, FALILAT OGUNKOYA, AND MARY ONYALI..

INSTEAD OF GETTING BETTER WE ARE GETTING WORSE...LOOK AT A SMALL ISLAND LIKE JAMAICA CHURNING OUT THE BEST ATHLETES... THE CREAM OF THE CROP...THEY VALUE TRACK AND FIELD AND INVEST HEAVILY ON A SPORT THEY ARE GOOD AT!!! NIGERIA NEEDS TO DO THE SAME WITH THEIR UNENDING RESOURCES...A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE!!!

Anonymous said...

Mehn that was a shocking performance, does it mean the others were running to qualify so they could use the remaining energy to finish the race.

Blessing was on a 10:93 and co. How did she drop to 11. hmmmmm. Not to happy oooo.

Well she did her best. Last is neva a position any1 wishes for

THIS GIRLS HAS LOADS OF UNEXPLORED TALENT,SHE NEEDS A BETTER TRAINING ROUTINE,IT IS A SHAME THAT HER STARTS WERE NOT WORKED ON WELL ENOUGH,HER POOR STARTS IS HER ONLY DOWNFALL WHICH IS SIMILAR TO USAIN BOLTS PROBLEM,IF SHE HAS BETTER SUPPORT I AM CONFIDENT SHE CAN BEAT 10.75 SECS EASILY AND AGAIN SHE NEEDS TO BE MORE CONFIDENT OF HERSELF,SHE NEEDS A SPORTS PSYCHOLOGIST TO BOOST HER CONFIDENCE MORE...I AM VERY SAD THAT SHE DID NOT END UP WITH A MEDAL,THIS IS THE SAME GIRLS WHO BEAT CARMELITA JETER AND SHELLY-ANN FRASE PRYSE ONLY WEEKS AGO IN AN ATHLETIC FINAL IN LONDON.THIS IS JUST SAD I AM OVERWHELMED WITH EMOTION RIGHT NOW

Anonymous said...

The girl try. E no easy. Meanwhile, did you know that Usain Bolt's great great grand father is from Warri, Delta State!

Blessing has really tried. Maybe she should be competing in longer races like 200m and above. Her height and slow start makes the 100m race hard for her. But she does have a strong finish. Go Blessing!Don't give up.

Sad to see Blessing loose. Anyways, let's hope she can still contribute in the relays.

Since the contigent could't get any medal so pls let the officials pull off their coats and go in 4 the remaining events so that they can give us some medals

Blessing better luck next time dat is life made up of the good and bad luv ya

Anonymous said...

She has tried, our government don't invest in sports,u can't reap where u did't sow.It could be that d poor girl has been sponsoring her sell all through her training period for years, our gov would only show little interest close to an event, feeding d poor girl with eba and fufu,so na like that she go take win, food that lacks nutrient.

Pls give the girl a break for some reason she started slow and she did that in her qualifying race as well I think she will do better in a 200m she should train for that.
