Security expert warns of New Year day bomb attacks

“Since Boko Haram struck on Christmas day, they may likely strike on New Year’s day. This is based on the fact that terrorists struck on Christmas eve and New Year’s Eve in 2010. However, the suicide terrorists changed to Christmas day this year. Since past is prologue to the future and the masters of Boko Haram tend to strike on anniversaries and on celebration days in order to maximise fatalities, they will probably carry out more spectacular attacks on New Year’s day 2012.” - A chartered security expert, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, gave the advice, yesterday, in Lagos.

Islamic School bombed in Sapele, Delta State

An Islamic school situated along the Urhobo Rd, in Sapele, Delta State was reportedly bombed yesterday evening by unknown persons. Unconfirmed reports say over four people were injured in the attack.

Meanwhile the National Security Adviser to the President, Gen Azazi has said that the Federal Government is incapable of policing the entire country.

Her name has been removed from the register of the association. She now ceases to be a member of the Nigerian Banking Profession.

Man Hangs Self on Christmas Day

An unidentified middle-aged man was on Christmas day found hanging from a tree in an apparent suicide at Leventis Bus stop, at Marina.

No one knew who the man was or where he came from as there was no ID on him after a search was conducted on his body. The police eventually came and took away his corpse.

Nigerian pilgrims detained in Jerusalem

Seven Nigerian pilgrims to Jerusalem, including two priests and a woman, have alleged poor treatment in the hands of Israeli security operatives, saying they were unjustly detained in prison for about 11 hours without committing any offence.

The pilgrims said they arrived Tel Av-iv Airport on December 15, from Rome where they were arrested and put into a Black Maria on the pretext that they entered Israel illegally.

Ladi Akindele spends Xmas in Ikoyi Prisons. To stay there till Jan 25

 

Lagos 'Big Boy' and front-man of Chrome Night Club, Ladi Akindele, spent Christmas in Kirikiri Prisons and will be there till January 25th, 2012.

Ladi was ordered detained by the IG of police for failing to honour the Dec 14th invitation by the police over the assault and issuance of dud cheques case against him. He was charged to court on December 22 and the court ordered he be remanded in prison until his next court appearance which will be Jan 25th, 2012.

Ladi was arrested for giving 5 dud cheques to his business partner, Charles Ahize, on November 11th 2011. According to the case before the courts, Ladi was supposed to be paying Charles Ahize N5m a month for the Chrome Night Club space, which belongs to the latter, but refused to pay and when he did, the cheques were not honored by the banks, which is a crime in Nigeria.

Dear Mr. President: We should say Merry Christmas but we are not your government, we are not in the business of deception. After almost ten hours of gathering your thoughts to speak on the bomb blasts that rocked the nation yesterday, you still fell short of your own very low standards. 

What did you intend to say when you said Bomb Blasts are a burden we must live with? Why do you bother to budget over a trillion for security if we must live with the burden of insecurity? How come you are still a president? We do not blame you, we blame our older ones who were stupid enough to think that where you come from and your religion was all you needed to be a competent president.

Nigerian Idol Chronicles: Day six and seven

Day Six: Welcome to Boot Camp!

The sixth episode of Nigerian Idol saw hopefuls converge at the Dream Studios in Lagos. This is the real deal as it was time to go hard or go home. I dare say that if the regional auditions created local champions, it was time for the contestants to prove that they could be international superstars. 

With boarding arrangements sorted out, the hopefuls attended to the business of the day….Singing! First up for our hopefuls was meeting David Ige the Vocal Coach. After a session with David, Dream Studio day one began. Host Ill Rhymz explained how this phase of the competition would pan out. Nicknamed sudden death, contestants would face the judges in batches of ten. They’ll perform and be graded individually.

Multiple award winning comedian, AY, has been unveiled as the brand ambassador of Haven Homes. The unveiling held during the recent Haven Homes Expo at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.

The ambassadorial contract will see the hardworking comedian, who recently completed his 2011 comedic tour, gracing the various publicity campaigns of the Haven Homes brand within the next year including billboards, televisions, commercials and other press ads.

We scoured the length and breadth of Lagos in search of something different to do during the holidays, and for a while we thought we were going to settle for the usual – window-shopping at the mall, movies at the cinemas, clubbing, fashion shows, sponsored parties, comedy shows, music concerts – you know the drill, the same familiar cycle repeated over and over again. But then, on Thursday, we received a curious invitation to the Xtreme Sports Media Experience – with no clue what to expect, we headed down to the Oniru – Landmark Village axis of Victoria Island in search of the Paintball Arena – the venue of this so-called experience.
