Explained: How Buhari Miraculously Improved The Power In Nigeria Overnight - Brimah

Article written by Peregrino Brimah of ENDs.ng
Many have been puzzled and piqued over this question. How did the new Buhari/Osinbajo government suddenly and rather drastically improve the power situation in Nigeria literally overnight? Apart from Asari-Dokubo and the people of Borno, most Nigerians have celebrated stretches of uninterrupted power like never before.
My niece and nephew were overheard arguing on if it had been a full 24 hours of uninterrupted light. One said it was, the other said it was over 20 hours but not 24. In the past they barely had 20 hours of light per week. It's been so across Nigeria, an unexplained miracle of the new "change" government.
Some die-hard Jonathanians have claimed the glory, "Jonathan did it," they say, "after all has Buhari repaired any power plant?" Some have even accused Buhari and Osinbajo of sabotage, claiming they kept the power down for the 16 years of PDP to pave way for their 2015 election victory.
Let There Be Light
I believe I figured out what the miracle was today and realize the answer is simple and rather painful. While chatting with a friend and ENDS General, who rejoiced that he had not turned on his generator for a whole month, it suddenly hit me. I asked how much fuel he bought into his generator per month, "N30,000" he replied. I asked how much fuel he bought into his car monthly, he said, "about N5,000 a week, about N20,000 a month." It was so clear. I called up several other friends and asked the same question. One said, no, that he doesn't use more petrol for his home generator than his car, then he said, actually I use the petrol for my office... "yeah, I do spend more fueling a generator than my car."
You have been kept in darkness for the 16 years of PDP, not so much because of the generator cabal, but because of people more wicked than them. Because of the fuel cabal. It is the fuel cabal that ensured that you never had power, the same cabal and for the same reason that they ensured that your refineries never worked. They are the ones that said, "let there be darkness over Nigeria."

The Nigerian fuel cabal make their trillions from fuel subsidy payments. The more petrol Nigeria consumes, the more money they make so long as the fuel is imported and not made by our refineries. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, fuel accounts for over 40% of Nigeria’s total foreign exchange expenditure on imports! When Nigeria is in darkness, there is a party in the fuel-cabals' homes. We saw the generators as noise makers and income for the generator marketers, but we rarely recognized them as a cash cow, magic money for fuel cabal. Nigeria uses possibly double the fuel it uses for transportation, for providing power. Like a magic trick, our eyes were covered from realizing the real hustle of generators – doubling Nigeria's fuel imports.

And this explains why, the minute Buhari and Osinbajo came into power and they repaired those refineries, banned those 120 ships and called all the fuel cabal to line-up and account for and return the billions in payments they have gotten for supplying fuel they don't even supply, that same minute the power became steady.

We are talking of $5 billion in imports a year, more than double what it should be, thanks to our generator consumption. There is a long chain that makes money in this scam, from the government to the banks, to importers, to the supply chain and fuel stations. The banks for instance make as much as $100 million annually on premiums on forex sold to marketers to import this fuel.

How did the fuel-cabal keep the power off? The Buhari government must investigate old NEPA, they must investigate PHCN. There are people in those agencies that were on the payroll of the fuel cabal who kept the light switch off. Of course the privatization needs to be reversed as many have said. Imagine, the very same fuel cabal invested in keeping Nigeria in darkness bought PHCN assets and now controlled the switch their very selves! That's getting the wolves to tend the sheep. The fuel cabal must sit in the dock! I have mentioned before that our refineries were never really that spoiled. Our power was always better than we suffered through. What Nigeria suffered for 16 years was people so wicked they kept us in darkness to fill their pockets. After all how can stuff built in early post colonial "prehistoric" era be impossible for us to build and maintain for 30 years of PDP and PDP's godfathers? Of course not. We could have solved our refinery problems 10 times over and our power problems 20 times over had the fuel cabal not collaborated with the IBB and his PDP sons' governments all these years to shut off our refineries and shut down our power supplies so they raked in their billions.

How the lack of steady power hindered Nigeria's development can never be overstated. I believe these matters must be seriously considered, investigated and there must be justice for any and all culprits.

There ain't no miracle in the power sector yet. So please stop saying rubbish. The power supply has improved a little, but its still a mediocre power supply, Nigerians should learn not to settle for mediocrity, the government can do better.

True. The power situation in Nigeria all these yearshas been notnothing but a conspiracy by the cabals to enrich themselves at our own detriment.

Thank God that we have someone who is capable of bringing sanity into the system.
But then I must say that Where I live in Ogudu area of Lagos, we've always have constant light right from time.
I know somewhere in Maryland where they have more than 24 hours of uninterrupted power supply some days, even before this present political dispensation.

Can someone please start shaming liars and political jobbers like the guy who published this?

The power has improved due to the Central Bank's intervention loan which settled the debt to the gas suppliers. As such generation is improving every month and records are being broken

http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/06/cbn-ease-gas-supply-with-n6-9bn-loan-facility/

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/cbn-to-clear-gas-legacy-debt-pays-gas-suppliers-n6-9b/

This has nothing to do with Buhari, and very little to do with Jonathan. You can give Jonathan and Obasanjo a little credit for starting the privatization program, but even then, they moved too slow.

The progress is all about us, Nigerian citizens in the private sector, who have always had it in us to fix the theft, corruption and ineptitude of the worst among us, who sadly are in the public sector (civil servants, labour unions and politicians).

Even right now, market structure issues remain, and the biggest problem and limitation in the power sector is transmission, which the government refuses to give up.

We have seen the progress we have made in Telecomms when the government and labour unions got out of the way. We are beginning to make progress in Power.

Next has to be Petroleum. NNPC must be dissolved or fully privatised, the subsidies must be removed. These remain channels for corruption. A good system is much better than a good and uninformed man.

Once these are done, then we will see private refineries in Nigeria within 18 months, and this madness of importing fuel will stop. We can then start earning more foreign exchange as Nigeria can even start exporting refined petroleum products.

Yawns... who doesn't know this? One disappointing factor was that Emeka Offor won the bid for eastern region and till date our light situation is still crap. This is a guy who was awarded maintenance of the refineries since obasanjo's time.... but why the hell would he, when he can as well exploit Nigerians.

It's a good article... but you must know that it was Jonathan's administration that removed subsidy and started overhauling the refinery... Buharis presense Def sped Things up.

HOW COME THE REFINERIES AND PHCN STARTED FUNCTIONING A DAY AFTER BUHARI WAS SWORN IN? DID HE BRING THE TRANSFORMERS FROM DAURA? DID HE CARRY TURN AROUND MAINTENANCE OVERNIGHT ON OUR REFINERIES? NIGERIANS WAKE UP! ALL THESE WERE ALREADY IN PLACE BUT GEJ WAS SO CARE FREE THAT HE NEVER BOTHERED ABOUT THE CREDIBILITY OF SOME PEOPLE HE WORKED WITH WHO MERE POLITICIANS AND WOLVES. Anonymous said...

Speculation and propaganda galore. Yet 222.1 billion has been spent on fuel subsidies so far in the last few months and the writer says that there are no more fuel cabals. That it is the fuel cabals that Buhari dealt a massive blow that is the reason why the lights are back on. In other words the NEPA that was privatized and invested in had no hand in improved supply. No it is body language miracle. Only in Nigeria do infrastructure never decay but cabals hold infrastructure hostage to milk money. I dey laugh. Very soon we will enter the era where Buhari has to show his own independent achievements free of anything from the past administration then I can believe he has performed. Right now all those trying to muddy the waters by claiming what Buhari couldn't have achieved in four months are just liars. Buhari still has 3 years and 6 months to prove himself to Nigerians.

Anonymous said...

Interesting article. I cant comment on the fuel cabal or not because that is a different story. What I can comment on is that for all the things we dislike about JEG the one thing that you have to give him credit for is the commissioning of the most power plants in Nigeria than any other president. These are the power plants coming online now and improving electricity.

With regards to the refineries, even PMB gave credit to JEG for starting that program so theres no need to comment on that one.

On a positive note, whether its JEG or PMB o!!! the important thing is that there is to some extent improvement in our electricity.

With this we as Nigerians can move forward step by step with our own creativity and entrepreneurial talent

Thank you so much for your research Dr brimah for your observation but please let tell ourselves some better truth the last administration did well to see to it that we enjoyed what we see today in the various front the scarcity of fuel was observed to be uncontrollably worse during the said periods of election campaign season because power That be want Jonathan out of power it take up to 18 months to lubricate the refinery machine this has been on going for The period of GEJ then we talk about the power sect what is the stage involved in ensuring that we have power supply to our home. You have Generation Transmission and Distribution which of these sections have the present administration work on this three sections was work on by GEJ he was the president that ensure that for the first time for us to leave 1500 megawatt to 4000 to 5000 megawatts he was the man who take us from hydro power generation to Gas power generation. And build also substation in the various regions of the country. And distribution of transformers to all the constituency please he was the man that ensure that the federal government get full investment value for power by ensuring that does who distribute power to costume pay back some of it to the government coffers please let us all give credit to whom is due Jonathan did is best for this country and deserve our respect and praise for the part it take us true in this regard. Despite he was is weakness as a man no body is perfect Jonathan has done is best as buhari come on board let him work to make the light constant as Jonathan has lead the way in this regard stop destroying his name because Nigerians are wise now than before I have not meet Jonathan all my life but I would love to see him and tell him thank you for the one you did for this country for he still remain the best president this country ever had till we have president that will make these things he has done to be constant and kill corruption and insurgent he still remain the best for me and all others who appreciates truth who don't see white and called it black God Bless GEJ and God bless Federal republic of this nation

Anonymous said...

U are the highest ode...thunder fire u and GEJ continuesly...clueless fuckers..all Thanks to Buhari

Anonymous said...

Ok.. But this article is article is based on his opinion rather that fact

Unknown said...

This is totally incorrect. I don't know why you guys just post nonsense and junks on your blogs and websites without reasoning and facts verification. The improvement we have in our power in Nigeria has been in the pipeline right after the privatisation. it is just coincidental it was more obvious after the President Buhari took over.

Most of our power plants were not operationg up to their full capacity before the privatisation. after the privatisation, the private investors commenced the overhaul of these plants. Egbin Power Plant for example was ogenerating less than 300MW before now but after the fixing of some dead plants and overhaul by the new owners, the plant now generates over 1000MW. So many others Ugheli, Geregu and so on have also increased their generating capacities. Major overhaul of power plants do not happen overnight, it takes months and in some cases few years. This explain one of the reason we have the improvement in our energy supply. I do not have time, I would have educated you more. Please get your facts right before you post some articles and do not just copy and paste nonsense people write.

I am a die hard supporter of Buhari and I hated GEJ with a passion but the fact must be upheld.

Thank you,

The cabal are not responsible for the power situation and the state of our refineries. Rather it the laziness of our government that brought us to this situation. One Nigeria discovered oil, every other revenue activities was abandoned.

The cabal only took an opportunity that presented itself. Are u going to blame china and India for the importation of substandard product intoLebanese ountry?. They merely made use of an opportunity that presented itself, opportunity that came as a result of the unwillingness of our government to develop the manufacturing sector. So China and co are doing that for us.

That only tells any resonable thinking person that we always had the capability and capacity but we were being denied. The whole lot of them God will will punish them. Evil people!
