Senator denies NASS members will be receiving N8.64bn wardrobe allowance, says its for miscelleanous expenses

A member of the National Assembly, Senator Ajayi Borrofice representing Ondo North has come out to deny reports that the National Assembly Members will be given N8.64bn as wardrobe allowance.

Speaking to ThisDay, Senator Borrofice said the controversial N8.64bn to be released to members of the National Assembly is for miscellaneous or regular expenses such as motor vehicle fueling and maintenance, wardrobe, domestic staff, personal assistant, constituency office, house maintenance, utilities and entertainment, among other perks, for the entire 469 lawmakers in the National Assembly.

Senator Borrifice said the miscellaneous allowance also includes cost of securing and equipping constituency offices in various local government areas which make up their constituencies and also includes monies to be used by lawmakers to organize town hall meetings in their various constituencies.

He said it was wrong for the public to believe they will be using N8.64 billion just for clothes.

According to him, the wardrobe allowance is the least significant to the assembly members. He stated that the miscellaneous allowance they will receive will be deducted in tranches from their salaries.

The report of the lawmakers collecting N8.64 billion as their wardrobe allowance surfaced yesterday June 16th with most Nigerians strongly condemning it.

Why did they take so much time to deny it? this is just to cover up, because the public reacted

Lies from pit of hell... We the citizens kick against this. NASS should stop this daylight robbery.

And what's the difference, was waiting to know what formed the miscellaneous expenses only to see jokes like cost of fuel, entertainment and even the same wardrobe allowance.
They are not serious, the masses are already making sacrifices in the face of harsh economic condition, they shouldn't be left out.
On Friday we Occupy NASS.

Holy Moses! miscellaneous expenses runs into billions while the hungry and toiling masses are still managing 18k minimum wage for main expenses.I dont care if this has been the norm from previous administrations but this regime promised to cut down cost of administration, and this ecactly negates that. This isnt fair.

He is a big fool..What still is the essence of having such a miscellanous amout as a salary. Time to call a spade a spade. This lawmakers get a lot of money for just sitting down and supporting whichever bill pays them the most money. How many of them stay in their constituencies or even relate with people from there. They should be paid in line with how civil servants who actually do majority of the work

What is the difference, whether miscellaneous or wardrobe or regular allowances, they are all the same,in a period that most civil servants/pensioners have not been paid for several months by their respective state gvts, Haba! This whooping sum is to be lavished on a minute number who may never pass any reasonable bill that will be beneficial to the generality of Nigerians,,I think it's time we took a second look at the type of Government we are running..our elite/leaders are note in tune with the masses Bcos they hav always been insulated somehow from the masses sufferings..

Unknown said...

Ook, we hope so...

Thanks Bonario for your "spot on" comments.
Service is not the mantra of our politicians. That's why they kill themselves to get into elected offices.
This is just the beginning of the looting. Expect many more trillions to be appropriated to these thieving politicians.
They are leeches on our commonwealth!

It’s a shame how the change is unfolding, where in the world will this huge amount of money be used on such frivolous listings as he has just enumerated?
Again the country really needs some cleansing or this will never stop.
A country where so called 18 states cannot pay salaries of justified workers, where graduates are churned out of our universities every day and can’t boast of even menial jobs yet these rogues that will never be able to pass a bill that will ameliorate the suffering of the masses will be collecting 8.64 billion naira even in the face of dwindling oil prices just sleeping and snoring in the senate chambers.
What a shame we have in this country and what a pity for any one that still holds a dream for Nigeria when we have people like Borofice who will shamelessly list things like these as a justification for collecting that amount of money.
