Nice picture, not very realistic though, almost looks like a wax statue from Madame Tussuad's. I think the picture in Arise is a more realistic depiction. Notwithstanding she's a beautiful woman making an impact in the African fashion industry.

Cant say the same for her manners though. She's a little uncouth. I was listening to her at a fashion panel in New York with Christie Brown (I think) and a couple of other emerging designers from across Africa. She totally lacked etiquette, was very aggressive bordering on insulting. I was quite surprised at that side of her cos I had always heard her attitude was diva-free. She was even mingling with the crowds, didn't ask for a separate room or anything so her panel-behaviour was a complete volte-face.

Agreed, anonymous 7.46pm. She has made Naija proud by her wonderful accomplishments but her attitude STINKS to high heaven having been on the recieving end of it. I spoke with a two friends who grew up with her and they both said she is razz to the core, has always been from day one so they were not surprised. All the travelling, mixing and mingling with moneyed folks has not succeeded in smoothing out her edges BUT there is something to be said about being true to one's self, abi? She no change for anybody LOL.

Beautiful, statuesque and should NOT speak in public.

Linda, you must have a very kind heart. Have you not read her tweet on you? It was explosive! No bi for my mouth dey go hear say teacher mama don die. It is online too.

Of course pride comes before a big fall. Even Naomi Campbell has never said another model should go and jump into a lagoon. Haba! She is ill mannered!

plastic, plastic and more plastic.
all this photo-shopping and airbrushing are the reason why young girls have self esteem and body image issues.

Anonymous said...

lol @ ChicLuv ... "beautiful, statuesque and should NOT speak in public" I couldn't have said it better myself.

Ok so at least I am not alone in that observation. I mean it was really surprising, there we were in a full conference room at an Economic forum in Columbia University, NY with grad students from Wharton, Harvard and Columbia, and madam was being so disrespectful to the other designers. She seemed to assume that because she is an international model, all the young African designers didnt know anything and should have kow-towed to her. Actually went as far as asking one of them who dared to have an opinion "how long had been in the fashion business"

Someone needs to explain to her exactly what the concept of emerging markets means. She could be to Africa what Tyra is to America, possibly more. Helping other young women to become as successful as they hoped. she just needs to reign it in a little.

P.S. heard about the tweet, didn't read it myself, if it was true then it was in bad taste. And Linda handled it as gracefully and as unassumingly as she handles all her criticism.

“Go and jump in the fucking Lagoon. High school its been over 12 fucking years. I don’t remember YOU!!! I speak FACT!! Get lost!”

That says a lot, the woman is a b***h

Is this some kind of joke?

Linda,have you read the tweet?
All you need to do is google "Oluchi onweagba,Linda, lagoon" and then watch what comes up.

Truth is that in as much as i try not to beieve EVERYTHING i read online,in magazines etc,I can say for a fact that Oluchis behaviour is disgusting.

She is a classic example of someone who suffers from an inferiority complex borne out of the fact that she can never truly and fully believe that she deserves to be where she is.HENCE the only way she can deal with that is by having an inferiority front so as to blag her way in the circles she mixes in.

I was truly happy for this girl when she won the Face of Africa as my mums maid then was in her class in "high school".In fact she was friends with my mums maid and had been to my house a couple of times.
Better believe that Oluchi needs to be thanking her stars that she got elevated. This girl was grass-root,insecure,lacked any form of self confidence, very low self esteem etc.

Would you guys believe that fast forward a few years later when my mums ex maid ran into her at an airport,Oluchi blanked her completely, then turned to her other vacuos hangers on,pointed at the ex maid who unbeknown to her was on her way to Univeristy in Paris, and they all laughed.

When mums ex maid, lets call her Fatou, got to Paris, she was so upset she called my mum to recount the situation.

First thing my mum said was "oluchi wo?"--meaning in Yoruba "which oluchi?"
that it couldnt be that face of Africa.

And i remember my mum saying later when i saw her, that she hopes Oluchi learns the meaning of Humility as greater people have fallen. And that you NEVER judge people based on what they were if at all.

Shebi if the whole wanted to judge her, would she not JUST be that razz girl off the streets of Ayilara??

Common Oluchi,a lot of Naija women are happy for you, nobody is interested in whatever you think you have.SO MANY ARE WORTH MUCH MORE THAN YOU ARE,THEY ARE JUST NOT IN THE PUBLIC EYE,if na the money dey shack you!
Nobody truly gives a f*ck.

Its a shame really when for every ten people that seem to have come across you,at least 8 mention your pride.
OVER WHAT EXACTLY??

If you were on the scales of Naomi or Tyra,na wetin you for do?Or Iman-the QUEEN BEE?

YES YOU GOT LUCKY,YES YOU MARRIED WELL,YES YOU HAVE A GORGEOUS KID.

But remember all you have is easily attainable................your genes just ensured that you got catapulted into a certain section.

The people you turn your noses up at,are equally successful in their own rights. Many are better looking than you are, they just did not choose the modelling paths.

Chinamanda Adichie is another woman putting Nigerias name on the map in the literary field.People speak of her calm demeanour, her grace, humility etc.

And better believe that there are some circles she would move in that even your so called "model'esque" looks would never get you into.
Simply because most people in the world Value substance over nothingness.

I am not someone who can stick Linda on a good day as i think she is just so...?????

But if you truly tweeted those horrible things then you need a personality check.A.S.A.P.

And while you are at it,work on your attitude, diction, and basic manners.

Humility does go a VERY long way my dear.

God bless you and your family.

i think oluchi was wrong saying wateva she said about linds but i also think that the same ppl she puts down/insults today probably looked down on her many years ago when she was razz, poor, ugly, and unknown. maybe even linda. oluchi has made a name for herself and i know that her character towards nigerians is bad but i also know no smoke without fire.

@ anony 11.05 - naomi wouldn't say jump into a lagoon, she will PUSH the person into the lagoon LOL LOL!

@ anony 1.41 - my dear, i thought I posted long write ups but you got me BEAT LOL, more grease to your elbow o, kai! on a serious note, you spoke well well. she no sabi sey the fingers you press on as you climb the ladder are the same one who will not catch you as you come crashing down and in her case i feel sorry because she ain't got NO behind, no cushion lol.

see, this is why i really like linda and i don't know her personally but i like what i perceive of her. some other people would have used this open forum to blast that lanka-lanka girl, she could have refused to ever ever ever post anything concerning that blow hard on her blog BUT she showed class and grace by still putting forth her news so that those who are fans can read about her, she is still promoting her as a proud specimen of Nigerian beauty.

and when i spoke of her attitude, this is not somebody told me alone, i have experienced it up close and personally. she is NOT a nice person, she is condescending, rude, prideful and i tell you, if no be sey we bin dey public forum and i no wan look like crase woman, i was going to dress her down but she wasn't worth the effort because you now what, at the end of the day, people would say it's "hating" when that cow actually needs to be brought down a peg or two.

12 years is not such a long time for someone not to remember people from high school. I left secondary school like 17 odd years ago, and i still very much remember my seniors, my class mates even some of my juniors. I mean, c'mon, even if the person is a big star or not, they are still humans with good functioning brains and memories. I would say; if I am permitted, that she chooses not to remember. At least, she could have been polite about it, and not going on twitter even encomium. Na wa oh... Oluchi, u fall my hand for those areas but you are repping real good as a model. At least, I have seen a couple of ur runway modelling and adverts on Essence magazine.. please keep it up but please try to be polite, biko nu.

kemi abodunde said...

why are people hating on oluchi?? she doesnt remember linda and linda is always bringing it up! the jumpin in th elagoon part is a bit extreme but why must linda force herself down oluchis throat?? all the crass u guys are typing is just speculation and LIES!! all u anonymouses should go jump in a lagoon!

Anonymous said...

Kemi Abodunde - you take a flying leap first then the rest of the me and anonymouses will join you.

And how about coming up with your own original saying, copy catarrh na hin go quench you! You contradicted yourself by saying it was extreme for Oluchi to tell LI to jump into the lagoon but it's okay for you to say it to other people who have a God given right to their opinion?!?

nonye said...

Kemi, I was at the said conference, sitting at the fashion panel. So at least the posts about that particular incident couldn't possibly be speculation. Oluchi is an entrepreneur now. You don't need an MBA from Harvard to understand that the fulcrum of a successful business is good business relations. The industry is opening up, it's in her best interests to be polite to the people in it, no matter how inconsequential she currently perceives them to be. Even if she doesn't mean it.

Linda Ikeji said...

Yeah I saw that tweet but you know...i just didn't take it to heart. People sometimes say things they don't mean when they are angry...

But anyway, thanks guys for coming to my defense...means a lot to me. A whole lot...kisses!

O said...

Oh please Linda, give me a break with people say things they don't mean....you meant no harm when you said you attended the same lesson but she doesn't seem to remember you. She shld have either not responded to it or said something nice like, "Am sorry I don't remember Linda, blame it on time and travels." When you are a celebrity, you become public property and everything you do and say becomes subject for discussion therefore you have to be extra careful of the things you say or bear the consequences. There's a price for fame. Oluchi was WRONG and CLASSLESS for the comment she made. Your comment didn't warrant such a stupid response for her. Humility people, humility is sexy!

Am freaking tired of so-called Nigerian celebrities that act like they are better than everyone else just because destiny has opportune them to be famous. Enough of that crap. Oluchi, Jim Iyke, Ini Edo and their likes need to realize that they are better than no one....we are all equal, we came from dust and we will return to dust without the riches of this world. Put your attitudes to check. Humility is Sexy!

people stop all these hating on oluchi.itz not her fault and it s possible she didnt remember her.must we crucify her coz of it.
shez my town girl and very far from all that i hear here.
If God wan bless person e no de look for face nor take permission from anyone.atimes our people expect much from someone and how many people would she please.no matter what people talk about her but facts remain she cant please all at the same time.so spare her.it could be she was stressed up or the like.man that job e no easy at all and trust naija people now.live and let live.Every one must not like her attitude but who cares ?Even jesus christ gave his life but they still hated him.so chill people.

Anonymous said...

Na wa o...the word "hating", "Hater" is over used on blogs.Wetin...people saw the girl's tweet and are calling her out on it..now it has turned to hating...

I have never witnessed her rudeness up front but most New Yorkers that have met her do not have the nicest things to say about her.

Yes she is a model and has done very well, but apart from Nigerians who have followed her grass to grace story...no one else really knows her.Ask a random human being who is not Nigerian who Oluchi is...She is not a household name.but that is not even the point.Whether you are Oprah or Tyra banks does not give anyone the right to talk about other people like that. That is just plain messed up.I know Linda has mentioned it couple times on her blog that she and Oluchi went to the same lesson, but Linda always said it jokingly and was aware that oluchi most have had a heck of a fast life to remember stuff like that..Na wa o..

God dey sa.I pray for continued Success for Oluchi, I pray for continued success for Linda Ikeji and i pray for continued success for myself.May we all achieve success and not get big headed. No man is an island.

I wonder why anonymouses respond first on every of Linda's controversial post...and their writings sound like *****'s. I'm a PR person myself and I'm feeling somehow. I hope it aint true anyway.
Let sleeping dogs lie. You don't pull down someone for you to rise up...cos after they fall, God always helps them up ...and when they come up, they come up higher than you! Jesus knows I know neither of you guys. All the best!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. The girl talk say she no know u.; haba! why would you blend her like that on your blog. i think you, Ms Linda deserved that comment from Oluchi. A word of advice: STOP BLENDING! You are being a true blender with that statment.Shout out to all the Blenders out there. They know themselves. 2UNES 2DAY BABY

Did you see her hair in the Natures Gentle Touch ad inside? Wow! Oluchi is a style icon, she got it all going for her and i think all ladies should emulate her.........Go girlfriend!

I don't know why people are breaking their heads.
In my view, Oluchi is not all that.
I have never been one to appreciate thin women.
Those who experience her bad manners put themselves at her disposal,me i no send and her money is for her and her family.
Linda, stick to your hustling and learn your lesson.

Anonymous said...

biko, which ladies? and are you her spokesperson or sthg? Please think about what you say b/4 you vent. Infact, speak for yourself, Agbani. And may I ask you, would you be the real agbani darego, or would you be impersonating the real deal? Please don't make it more than it is; as in Oluchi being rude when she can be polite. Looks cannot be everything. And dear girl, not everyone is into permed hair. Puleahze. I can go on and on, and I have to respect LInda's space as she rightfully deserves it. If I was going to be rude; i would have asked you to get a life. But you know what; have a good weekend. :)

the only time I've seen Linda mention the Oluchi lesson thing, she always provided a ready excuse that even she Linda doesn't remember every1 and she always brought it up in a GOODNATURED way, in a way that'll bring a smile to your face. I want to believe that Oluchi may have misconstrued the manner in which Linda said it OR you know how it is when gist has moved from one place to another some may have told her Linda was making fun of her or something. I like Linda's attitude to the whole tweet thing. Those who tell Oluchi that any criticism of her is HATING do her no favours. As Nigerians, we want Oluchi to shine and the beyond the skies is her limit. She's been given the opportunity to provide leadership in that she is a brand that is known outside our circles and she must nurture it. Linda has a wide readership and our prayer is that where the need arises they can work together to uplift Nigeria for us and also the younger generation. I am so proud of both ladies and rooting for you big time.
