The effects of cold water

A cardiologist says to share this with my readers...hope it helps.

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.

You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive.**

I find this hard to believe as the human body works optimally at 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit and substances taken into the body are warmed or cooled as needed.
If this were true, I would imagine that people who live in warm places will be the fattest and have the highest rate of cancer as they would probably follow their meals with cold beverages but that's not true, is it?
Please don't pass things like this around. There was a time when they said antiperspirants caused breast cancer and we all know that is far from the truth.
Sure, having an unhealthy weight probably puts one at risk for some cancers but not this way.

Wonderful! I beg make una warn dem ooo. Don't listen to that anonymous comment saying you should not pass it round.

Are they aware that stock from meat is very fattening and can block arteries? After cooking meat, allow the stock to cool for some hours and you will see the lumps of fat. That is what most Africans add to their soups.

I once had two bosses who were warned by doctors to lower their fat consumption or die of heart attack.

One of them was once rushed to the hospital and the other only eats goat meat and never cow meat because of cholestrol.

He only eats one wrap of fufu, iyan or amala with a lot of goat meat and vegetables. Never two or three wraps like most of us do.

Ohmygosh Linda thank you so much for this article. I chew a lot of ice, and drink at least 10 bottles of 16oz water bottles a day.

It always has to be super cold and icy. for the past three years i always have chest pains (not my chest per se but the space inbetween my breast and upper abdomen. The biggest discomfort with this is like i feel like i want to burp but i cant and the pains escalate as i force to burp. I mean i cant describe it.

I did all the checks with doctors, xrays - tube thru my mouth test, You name it i have done it. And yet they couldnt find anything. They thought it was indigestion, so i took Prilosec (which is like Omeperozole) many many times (its not cheap either) cos thats the number 1 indigestion medicine here in USA, that did not help either. The doctors ask me about my diet and i told them what i eat. I mean hey am West African, i eat a lot of rice, corn meal and tomatoe based stews and soups. They told me i need to stop that, i looked at the oyibo doctors, like these fools must be outta da damn minds. Stop eating stew and eat salad. you might as well kill me.

Then i started assuming its golestones cos when i told my symptoms to my cousin in London she told me - most likely that could be it, so i looked up remedies of gall stones on line and one included drinking apple juice.

When i drink apple juice it eases off a bit but not completely. Lately the discomfort and pain has started again. Last night i had an uncomfortable sleep.

As of today i will not drink cold ICE water again, or at least not after a meal. Let me try this and see if this work.

Thank you.

Anonymous 7.40am you are so right. This is absolute BS. Once anything cold gets into you body, our body temp warms it up. And if you were going to talk about cancer can you be specific as to what kinda cancer you are talking about. Please Linda do you research and get ur facts straight before giving false info. You have alot of readers. You will only deprive them of drinking cold water in hot naija when there is no need for it. I am not speaking out the crack of my ass. Im a medical school student and if cold water was a risk factor for any cancer, we would have been told in school. Cancer is the #2 killer of americans here so i single fact of cold water being a risk factor for whatever cancer will not have been brushed off during lectures here in the states.

Personally, I am not really sure of the merits of this information. Where is the scientific data to back it up?

Besides, the body has regulation and control mechanisms to deal with changes in temperature and environment as well as transport and control in general. Has this Doctor ever heard of Homeostasis?
